Hey, same here!! And she's as big (or bigger) a MICHIGAN fan as anyone I know. She tried participating here a while back, but found the level of douchebaggery too high to tolerate and stopped.
This thread as an indication of douchebaggery reinforces her opinion of this site.

Don't ever refer to your wife (or girlfriend) as "Big" "Bigger" or god forbid, "Biggest." While you pride is justified and intention is noble, those words can always be heard in the 'Wrong" way. I suggest something like "She's a great fan" or " the best fan". "Passionate" is a also a good substitute.
"Huge" is just right out.

An alumnus/alumna is someone who graduated from or attended an educational institution. One need not have graduated in order to be considered an alumnus/alumna.

I ran into this issue 10 years ago when my wife was at Howard U. and I was trying to explain how Puffy was an alum despite being enrolled for only 1-2 semesters.

According the UM Alumni Association an alumnus is anyone who buys their groupon.

I will never forget the late hit Crable gave to Troy Smith on 3rd and 15 to extend their game winning drive in '06 or the punt on 4th and short that was I believe inside the OSU 40 in '05.
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:51 AM ^
I believe the '05 situation was 4th and 4 at the 34 yard line. While I absolutely believe that going for it was the right move there, knowing that 4 simple yards basically means you win the game right there (And why do you play? YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. HELLO???), the situation bares a striking resemblance to Pete Carroll's decision in the MNC game a few months later. 4th and 2 around the 40, and a first down essentially ends the game. He goes for it, and Lorenzo White gets stuffed. Carroll took an unfair beating in the media after that choice.
Basically, everyone's a brilliant arm-chair QB with 20/20 hindsight. Coaches are often damned either way.

or Lendale White? I don't remember a Lorenzo so I'm just asking.

Lorenzo White was an MSU running back in the '80s.

I effed up. Lendale.

This is always me defense for Chad and Mike. Two of the four games, they were both not 100%, especially Chad in 2007. The two games they were not injured, they both played pretty well, but as you stated, our defenses did not help.
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:18 AM ^
No way you can hang those 2 losses on him. If you would have told me in 2006 before the game that we would go into Columbus against that team playing that game with our defense and score 39 points with 400 yds of offense. I would have never guessed that we would lose that game.
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
The defense just lost their minds that game. OSU was averaging about 180 yards rushing coming into that game, and they top that total against what was I believe the top rushing defense in the country to that point? What gives?

The list of connections in this article for just one game sort of speaks to just how small a world the NFL really is in comparison to the rest of the population, but it will be interesting to see if we can get at least a few series with both Henne and Robinson in there. I will say, however, that I didn't even really think about how many former Jaguars are now on the Lions roster before reading this - interesting really.

Easy to get overlooked in the sparkle of Denard's smile.
August 22nd, 2014 at 12:58 PM ^
he was everywhere. You could see him at other M sporting events cheering the other athletes on. Maybe it is because so many more games are on TV now, but I don't recall any other "celebrity" style athlete doing this here.
Best of all, he stayed. I was sure he was going to transfer out when RR was let go, but he had fallen in love with the university and didn't want the team to splinter like it did when LC left.
August 22nd, 2014 at 9:45 AM ^
Hope both make it out to AA to talk with the team.

Thus is your legacy when you dont beat Ohio...
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:02 AM ^
He had a good career at M. But he was more of the game manager type quarterback that sat in the pocket. Denard was just all around spectacular, a highlight clip machine.
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:15 AM ^
Pocket passers aren't automatically "game managers." Chad Henne certainly wasn't one; he had to become our offense on occassions when Hart was hurt or not finding room. Insert Inigo Montoya meme here.
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:26 AM ^
Chad wasn't asked to win a lot of games because Carr usually had a decent level of talent. However, his career could have been far more prolific with, say, Borges or Nuss instead of DeBord, a conservative OC who didn't utilize Henne to the extent he should have during his upperclassman years.
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:44 AM ^
It was that game that is a perfect example of what Henne and the rest of the offense was capable of. They lit up the scoreboard even with two turnovers inside the 15 against an a damn good Florida team.
August 22nd, 2014 at 11:14 AM ^
I couldn't agree with this more. It was like we came out with a totally difference offense for the Capital One Bowl. My buddy and I were sure RichRod came up with the offense after being named coach. We were young and naive.
August 22nd, 2014 at 3:23 PM ^
This was the offense that they wanted to run all year but couldn't because of a multitude of injuries. Prior to the season they had Tom Moore come in and help them draw up this attack. Tom Moore was the OC for the Colts and the man who taught Peyton Manning quite a bit about offense.
August 23rd, 2014 at 3:23 PM ^
...there's no reason to not mention one of the best QB's in school history (numbers wise) and a current NFL starting QB.
It was just a mistake, period. No need to justify.

Michigan went 36-14 with Henne as the QB (72%) with 2 Rose Bowl appearances. One Big 10 championship and 2 Big 10 2nd place finishes. His 2006 team was the closest thing we've had to nationally elite since 1997. Most of us would kill for that sort of situation nowadays. He and Hart also saved our 2004 season.
Denard was 23-10 (70%) for comparison with 1 BCS bowl. (I removed the last 6 games of Denard's senior year including Nebraska as he was not the QB)
Yes it was not all about the QB in either case in terms of W-L. But 1 win versus a Fickel led debilitated OSU should not put one far above the other. Denard had charisma that Henne lacked and we have recency bias....maybe if he had Jake Ryan's 2012 hair and smiled a lot more people would "adore" him more. He was one of the best QBs we ever had.
Per Wiki:
For his career, Henne completed 828 of 1,387 passes for 9,715 yards, 87 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions. All five marks are school records. Henne's passing touchdown total is second in Big Ten Conference history.
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:33 AM ^
I always note that he would have easily been Michigan's only 10,000 yard career passer if not for his injuries during his senior year. His monsterous Capitol One Bowl performance really showed what he could have done that year if healthy.
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:30 AM ^
But I bet it is reasonably likely that the person handling the UM Alumni twitter account graduated in the Denard era. Perhaps they never even saw Henne play. I'd imagine it is an accidental slip up and not a shot at Henne. I am not excusing the mistake, but I think its probably innocuous.
When viewed in that light, approximately 93% of us on the blog can now return to lamenting how old we feel...
August 22nd, 2014 at 10:35 AM ^
Michigan didn't "forget Chad Henne." The "MIchgan Alumni" account doesn't speak for all fans, all alums or the school itself. It's just a Twitter account.
