DL coach Chris Scruggs arrested for OWI
Great first week on the job bud
Coach, we do have Uber in Ann Arbor.
And at, what, a half million dollars a year, he can afford it!
This is the thing that gets me. Eat the parking ticket; pay for a cab/uber/lyft. So incredibly stupid, especially since he makes more money than 99% of the population
Can't teach stupid, it's a gift.
Yup and now $10k in legal (at least). If it’s his third, you’re talking no deal without some jail time. Likely lost millions in earnings. Amazing. I Uber whenever I’m out drunk and don’t make anywhere near half a mill a year. It’s like $30. Jeez
Oh shit…will the drama never stop?
Warde, time to update the employee onboarding handbook!!!
He got the all clear on the background check and said, "Fuck it."
Operating while intoxicated for those that arent up on the Michigan acronyms. Now if anyone needs me Ill be getting my license at the SOS and then Im off to the DNR.
It’s also his second offense. Had another his senior year in college according the article.
<insert not great Bob gif>
I'm a big believer in second chances and (presumably) his senior year in college was a while ago, but consider me skeptical that this turns out to be a good hire.
It's his third offense, not second. So really this would be his "fourth chance" were Michigan to hold on to him, which I doubt.
Might not be able to rent a car for recruiting visits. Maybe he can get his Teams app to work.
I gotta admit that when I saw this I just laughed. Barely two weeks in town and he's already getting pinched for something really dumb.
a true Insider
Thanks for decoding! I figured this was another Ghost of JG post. My money was on Openly Wisconsinesque.
A reminder to drink Wisonsinbly.
As an aside, Wisconsin still has some of the loosest drinking laws in the country. You can drink at any age if you are with your parents. I think Wisconsin was one of the last states to go to 21 in drinking age. I remember my older cousins would drive up to Wisconsin in the early 80s to get beer at 18 years old and bring it back to Chicago.
My husband went to a small college in Wisconsin and he remembers driving up to visit and there were literally kegs flowing in the quad. That pretty much sums up his undergraduate years.
Lawrence? I ask this because this was my literal experience when I visited a close friend at Lawrence in the late 90s. Kegs in the quad and everyone joining in. We were all underage and we were told Wisconsin doesn’t really care about drinking age.
Texas allows “drinking with parents” too. Not sure about Georgia, but I’ve had a beer with my kids at home. Teaching them to drink responsibly.
It’s St. Paddy’s weekend here in Chicago. I’m just gonna scrugg this one off until Monday.
My wife and I are avoiding downtown like the plague. St. Paddy’s day in Chicago is amateur hour at its finest
St Patty's in general is for college kids and people who never really left.
Wow, thanks for the clarification. BTW, who pissed in your green beer???
Pretty accurate though. In Ireland only the tourists get trashed for St Paddy's Day.
The Irish just get trashed because they're Irish.
I was just driving down Milwaukee in Wicker Park and it's nuts. I forgot how stupid people get when they're wearing green.
you should visit east lansing...
Where every day is St Paddy’s day!
A friend of mine (female) got a DUI and was sent to jail. Pops get the call, let her sit it out, and picked her up the next day. Lesson learned? I never found out.
I’m genuinely curious about the female parenthetical qualifier.
Being a Michigan fan requires a lot of fortitude.
In addition to legal repercussions for Coach Scruggs, I'm assuming the head coach will be suspended for the first 4 games next season.
I did a recap of things that have happened under Warde's watch and it started to look like I was making shit up. Its insane. My response was to someone saying we were scandal free under Warde.
I can pile on Warde for a ton of shit, but unless he was leaving Wardes house and he was force fed booze, then not Wardes fault here. Everything else? Yes!
It is extremely embarrassing that they did a month long background check, supposedly overturned every stone and only a week later a coach gets arrested. That makes the department look back imo
In their defense, it's hard for a background check to turn up stuff that hasn't happened yet.
Well, I know where you were next Tuesday - and to say the least, I am disappointed in you
He has 2 alcohol related driving offenses. It happened twice. Chengelis found them.
Huh? Background checks don't predict the future. A DUI in college shouldn't rule a guy out. Harbaugh had a DUI in his past as well.
I’m guessing you haven’t see Minority Report.
Well they are background checks, not foreground checks.
How so? Was the background check supposed to predict a stupid decision he made in the future?
According to all rivals? At Michigan, yes. /s
You know, background checks ARE notorious for their inability to predict the future.
This is starting to get irrational. Not starting, is. Is irrational. Scruggs is a grown man.
Im not sure why the down votes? It wasnt stuff I made up. Just things that had happened. Things weve been talking about over the years.
Jim Stapleton is on the phone to the Charges trying to get Jim Harbaugh suspended for this.
On the line to osu's DL coach!
Larry Johnson Sr? Eh, guy is 72. 10 years ago was probably best DL coach in college football
