Sherrone Moore hires Zach Higginbotham for newly-created Director of Sport Science role
https://twitter.com/Coach_Zach32/status/1758868716287062214
Extremely excited to get the chance to be the new Director of Sport Science for Michigan football. Getting the chance to work at such an amazing storied organization, and continue to work in my hybrid role as a coach as well. Thankful for everyone who’s been apart of it!
Some additional (mostly speculative) info about the role, and about Higginbotham's background:
Most recently, Higginbotham was at Cal as the applied science and reconditioning coordinator. Before that, he was the associate head strength and conditioning coach at FAU, an assistant at Ole Miss, ULM and Nevada, an intern at Ohio State under Urban Meyer, and an intern at Marshall, where he attended school. He received a bachelor of science in exercise physiology from Marshall in 2017 with a minor in psychology and played linebacker for the Thundering Herd.

Will he be making those cool videos of how fast a spiral is actually turning or the torque put on a human knee when a running back makes a cut?

I got that reference.

Nicely done!

He's here to keep the proprioception in line.

not an ohio state word

Glad I’m not the only one who thought this.

His last name gives off all of the vibes of an elitist east coast family.
I hope that somehow gives us a huge advantage, welcome aboard coach!

Old money + sports science = massive advantage
February 19th, 2024 at 6:55 AM ^
Yes, but will that advantage be "decided" and "schematic"?

I bet he drives around with a bottle of Grey Poupon in his Rolls...just in case anyone pulls up next to him and asks him if he has any on him.
February 17th, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
Hopefully he doesn't know how to,"steal signs!"
February 17th, 2024 at 6:26 PM ^
Fer sure. Many bothams died to bring us that information.

Director of Sports Science and Sign Stealing?
I’ve heard from so many “friends” laughing at how amateurish the whole Stalions thing was. Now I can puff my chest out since we’ve moved the whole thing to a Director Level. Reductio ad absurdum. Not that any Sparty would get it.

I really don't want an Ohio State spy in the building

Surprised to hear he’s leaving Hogwarts U but glad to have him aboard. Based on his last name alone, I’m sure he’ll cast a spell or two to keep the team healthy.

Hope we don’t have a new Director of Sport Science every year! 🧙♂️

Reginald Jeeves, gentleman's gentleman for footballing gentlemen.

A former football player - knowledge of the sport helps him relate to the players (and the players to him).
A science guy talking about leverage advantages - awesome! I’m picturing Aiden Hutchinson running through the OSU line.

This looks like some out-of-the-box thinking by Moore. Very cool.
February 17th, 2024 at 6:19 PM ^
With a name like Higginbotham We better be serving grey poupon at the big house.

His grandpa ran an estate in Hawaii. Not a huge fan of Rick but TC was alright.

Were Zeus and Apollo Higgins' pups?

And, they respond to "34 distinct unvoiced commands".
February 19th, 2024 at 6:57 AM ^
Of course not. They, along with everything else, belonged to Mr Masters!

The lads!
February 17th, 2024 at 6:36 PM ^
How does this affect Sabb?
February 17th, 2024 at 6:46 PM ^
Good, the Higginbothams of the world need more visibility.
February 17th, 2024 at 7:19 PM ^
Gotta keep up with those Hickenbottoms!
February 18th, 2024 at 12:57 AM ^
Good, now whatever we hit, we destroy.
Though, to be fair, we have some experience.....

His Twitter profile pic looks like Sean Astin's character from 50 First Dates claiming he's "not on the saucth"
February 17th, 2024 at 7:05 PM ^
I approve of this based on his name alone. I hope he has a PHD.
February 17th, 2024 at 7:17 PM ^
Is he of the Boston Higginbothams?
February 17th, 2024 at 7:51 PM ^
a part
February 17th, 2024 at 8:38 PM ^
Beat me to it! Sherrone also made this mistake in his first tweet as coach.
February 17th, 2024 at 7:55 PM ^
I actually did not know this position was being instituted and I like the idea quite a bit. Well done, Coach Moore and company.
February 17th, 2024 at 8:15 PM ^
I fully support this if “science” is code for steroids.
February 17th, 2024 at 8:27 PM ^
This sounds kind of edgy, creative, intense, and limit testing. I love it! Count me in. Well played, Coach Moore.
February 17th, 2024 at 8:28 PM ^
Wait—I thought Herbert’s second in command knew everything that his former boss did, so we wouldn’t miss a beat on S&C. Why do we need this position all of a sudden?
February 17th, 2024 at 8:35 PM ^
Guess you thought wrong
February 17th, 2024 at 8:35 PM ^
Stupid thumb of mine needs some applied science so as not to double click on save button
February 17th, 2024 at 11:05 PM ^
Because if you’re not looking to improve, you risk falling behind. This doesn’t mean we would have missed a beat on S&C, it’s just an attempt to keep advancing and improving.
February 17th, 2024 at 8:37 PM ^
Can we teach everyone involved with the program when to say “a part” vs. “apart”?
February 18th, 2024 at 8:39 AM ^
It’s a director of sports science not a director of grammar
February 18th, 2024 at 7:10 PM ^
You should give them a F
February 17th, 2024 at 10:41 PM ^
Let's Science the SHIT out of this.

I'm from the Marshall area and people love this guy. He is really well respected in Huntington and at Marshall.

I’m sure it had nothing to do with some 8 figure donations
