Bummer, Jim Costa is a loser who thinks he will make his career making hot takes.
February 16th, 2024 at 10:31 PM ^
I disagree absolute costa but Stoney will be missed !
February 17th, 2024 at 7:10 AM ^
Costa is a true talent that has no ties to any of the two major universities in the state. Mike was good, but I enjoyed listening to Costa on the air when he filled in for Jon or Stoney when one was off that day.

His hot take attitude will grind on you eventually. He filled in for Rico on the Valenti show awhile back. First 2 shows were incredible, then took a steep decline after that and Mike had to carry the show as always. (Yes, I'm one of the rare UM fans that like Valenti and find him consistently entertaining.)
Hopefully he find his groove in the morning and it works out.
February 17th, 2024 at 2:01 PM ^
If you are a U of M fan who likes Valenti, anything you post won’t be taken seriously.
February 17th, 2024 at 2:58 PM ^
I'll get over someone not taking a post of mine on a silly message board seriously. It'll be hard, but I'll get through the day somehow
February 17th, 2024 at 4:43 PM ^
I'm also one of the rare UM fans that find Valenti to be somewhat entertaining. As with most radio personalities he does becoming annoying at times but I do find myself laughing at his takes.
February 17th, 2024 at 5:57 PM ^
I've never heard a broadcaster more miserable after a victory than Costa postgame after the Lions beat the Chargers
Team guys have to walk a fine line of enthusiastic criticism. Jansen and TJ Lang are excellent at this. Costa? no.
I'm disappointed he will be on am drivetime. To me a somewhat more talented Brian Chapman
February 17th, 2024 at 6:38 PM ^
Rico himself is pretty good about hot takes that eventually turn cold. Valenti is usually pretty good his schtick is just being negative.
February 17th, 2024 at 11:02 AM ^
I mostly liked Costa when he was on Big Drew and Jim but haven't heard him since then. At the time I thought they had much more reasonable takes and discussion than the national media, although they're still sports media personalities so having a few stupid discussions and hot takes is a requirement. I wouldn't be surprised if he became a hot take artist since then, though. He was trending in that direction when he was solo on "And Jim".
February 17th, 2024 at 12:17 PM ^
Maybe not "hot takes," but on 96.1 it felt like Costa was constantly saying dumb things that were immediately called out by his co-host(s).

Stoney and Wojo is the greatest sports talk show in Detroit history and nothing else is even in second place.
February 16th, 2024 at 10:46 PM ^
Hell yes it was! Man I miss those 1130 The Fan days, “spousal arousal” with old shep was so much fun
February 17th, 2024 at 12:45 AM ^
Stoney and Wojo? Sounds like the name of an old TV cop show.
February 17th, 2024 at 1:51 AM ^
But they know more about sports than most other folks know
February 17th, 2024 at 6:41 AM ^
There's also humor and bits.
February 17th, 2024 at 11:22 AM ^
…opinions and wit.
And a whole lot of situations where people call in!!
February 17th, 2024 at 9:28 AM ^
what's your beef?
February 17th, 2024 at 11:51 AM ^
Happy New Year!
February 17th, 2024 at 12:25 PM ^
That’s a legitimate beef, Stoney.
February 17th, 2024 at 10:10 AM ^
Hmmm...I don't ever recall hearing that show.
I've heard of "Stoney and Sometimes Wojo" and "Stoney and Occasionally Wojo" and "Stoney and Every Now and Then Wojo"....
February 17th, 2024 at 1:59 PM ^
I'm not going to lie, I would get irrationally invested in their make believe tournaments where callers would decide the winner of each matchup. I can still hear Wojo saying he hates the Pringles guy.
February 17th, 2024 at 2:31 PM ^
Been gone for 15 years but I still remember the opening song. Good times.
February 16th, 2024 at 10:37 PM ^
Dude, I read "exit" and it scared me for a second... you're not funny!

How did we go from the pinnacle to BPONE in four weeks?

@Sharklover The Michigan Difference
February 17th, 2024 at 2:36 PM ^
Harbaugh gone
Minter gone
Jaybaugh gone
Herbert gone
Notre Dame head of recruiting guy coming... nope gone
Elston gone
Clink staying.... nope gone
Adegoke coming.... nope gone
I love Moore's staff I really do but that is a lot to deal with in a few weeks. When you watch the best, most conditioned defense in Michigan's history its going to be a little sad to watch all the architects leave. Im ready for the next chapter but it was a little bumpy to say the least.
February 17th, 2024 at 12:45 PM ^
Stoney'a Charger now. Don't be sad.
February 16th, 2024 at 10:39 PM ^
Costa flamed out on the west side. Maybe he won’t on the east side.
February 16th, 2024 at 10:45 PM ^
Stoney has been on my radio since I was 11 years old. I’m now 42. I greatly appreciate him, and he will be missed
February 16th, 2024 at 11:39 PM ^
Remember that one time there was a dead deer in the car and you moved the deer cadaver lips to mimic as if it was talking? Well anyway, it was hilarious . Here is it bill Branski
February 16th, 2024 at 10:46 PM ^
Detroit legend.
A lot of memories of his voice in my childhood. My family had one car growing up: a 1988 Dodge Caravan with only AM radio. All that was ever on the radio was WDFN and my dad loved Stoney and Wojo. A long and respected career.
February 16th, 2024 at 10:47 PM ^
I’ll miss him so much. I don’t know anyone who dislikes him, and not many can say that.
February 16th, 2024 at 11:09 PM ^
97.1 has got to step up its NIL game.
February 17th, 2024 at 2:28 PM ^
They need Warde 🤭
February 16th, 2024 at 11:11 PM ^
Goddamn Chargers…
February 16th, 2024 at 11:15 PM ^
I'll miss his innate ability to make drops out of so many things he said. He could really roll with the punches and that was always endearing.
Jim Costa seems like hes decent but his "over-enunciation" gets quite annoying after a while, like dude we're just Michigan people, speak like a normal Michigan person and not a Bob Costa robot
February 16th, 2024 at 11:15 PM ^
I grew up in Ohio so I knew nothing about them until I started going to Michigan games in the late 90s. I heard about the on The Wolverine message board so every time I would be on my way to ann arbor I would always try to catch their show. I had totally forgotten about them until this post. They were a great listen
February 17th, 2024 at 12:50 AM ^
Stoney is a Detroit legend for sure, Meh on Jim Costa.
In addition to Wojo, I liked the late, Jamie Samuelson with Stoney.
And back in the day, Bob Page in Detroit and Pete Franklin on WWWE Cleveland if the radio waves were coming in just right.
February 17th, 2024 at 6:44 AM ^
Sports radio in Detroit was never better than on 1130 with Stoney, Wojo, and the Big Headed Kid.
February 17th, 2024 at 9:24 AM ^
Yes, the Jamie Samuelson and Stoney pairing had more subtlety if that could be possible on morning sports radio.
February 17th, 2024 at 10:10 AM ^
I have fond memories driving around Ann Arbor, as a teenager in the 90s, listening to Parker and Stone / Stoney and Wojo.
There weren't anywhere near as many media channels and distractions back then, and they delivered an authentic common narrative thread for a ton of kids growing up in SE Michigan. Good stuff Stoney.
February 17th, 2024 at 10:23 AM ^
Ike " Megaman " Reese from WDFN, was the reason I started hating everything MSU ! Before him they were just a cute little brother.
February 17th, 2024 at 10:30 AM ^
Stoney was to sports talk what the old time late night guys like Johnny Carson were to late night talk shows. Just very fair and even keeled. Not like the guys currently on late night shows or sports talk shows like Valenti that are just major league trolls.
February 17th, 2024 at 11:03 AM ^
Congrats to Stoney, his wife the lovely and talented Cindy, and his daughters Jasmine and Miranda.
February 17th, 2024 at 11:33 AM ^
Congrats to a Detroit legend on retirement. Stoney and Wojo got me hooked on sports radio and no show has ever come close to that kind of enjoyment for me.
February 17th, 2024 at 12:31 PM ^
I remember when he was on the Sunday Sports Albom and I tried to listen every Sunday night - being so hungry for Sports Talk. Then WDFN happened and I was hooked.
A great memory was when Stoney called Rob Parker an AssHole on air. Certainly Parker had it coming : )
