Michigan LB Joey Velazquez transfer to OSU
I get he's from Columbus but I mean why not go somewhere you can get on the field instead of a walk-on? Good luck to him I guess?
February 12th, 2024 at 10:18 AM ^
You burn that bridge when you transfer there.
February 12th, 2024 at 11:02 AM ^
"Oops, sorry...we ordered you a championship ring that's 4 sizes too small..."
February 12th, 2024 at 2:44 PM ^
well, at least it'll fit on his...
February 12th, 2024 at 3:04 PM ^
“Hey guys, check out this B1G Championship ring and this NC ring, none of you know what these look like…”
February 12th, 2024 at 4:41 PM ^
He claims to know Wink’s defense.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:19 AM ^
He is going there to troll. He wants to be the only player on a team that wins a National Championship!
February 12th, 2024 at 10:52 AM ^
But he quit before the B1GCG, so that doesn't apply. I think his last game was against OSU.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:55 AM ^
if you beat 'em, join 'em
February 12th, 2024 at 11:44 AM ^
As I recall, he was mostly special teams and rarely showed up on defense, correct?
February 12th, 2024 at 10:20 AM ^
Crap, he's going to show them what a tough football player looks like!
February 12th, 2024 at 10:50 AM ^
I suspect it has more to do with baseball than football.
February 12th, 2024 at 12:05 PM ^
I think this is the right answer - he was a baseball commit to OSU before flipping to Michigan.
February 12th, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
He's not expected to play baseball
February 12th, 2024 at 12:31 PM ^
...and judging by the fact that he hasn't gone pro in baseball, I'm assuming he is going to OSU for the education/graduate degree which I respect.

February 12th, 2024 at 10:21 AM ^
That's sabotaging our program somewhat. Only reason they'd take him is for info...
February 12th, 2024 at 10:27 AM ^
This does not seem right. It feels disloyal.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:36 AM ^
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often for info.
But Stalions was the worst scandal in football history.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:37 AM ^
Even worse, how bout coaches doing that? Mattison... prick.
February 12th, 2024 at 11:46 AM ^
Mattison was the worst, especially that he did it to Harbaugh. Felt personal.
February 12th, 2024 at 9:21 PM ^
When my son was in little league I was was the coach and on picture day there was this guy all dressed in OSU gear and I though he looked familiar. I walked over to him when I realized it was Mattison and he said his grandson was on my team. He was there because mom and dad were on vacation. I asked him why he left Michigan and he just rubbed his fingers together and said "Money".
Somewhat biting my lip I said "well I expect we will tackle better than your teams at Michigan and ND. You just got credit because you had the Ravens." Needless to say the son didn't talk much to me the rest of that season...lol.
Go Blue!!!!
February 12th, 2024 at 8:10 PM ^
At the end of the day, he did us a favor.
He quits, and we win National championships. (don't forget when he bailed to go to ND back in 1997).

It's business. Tribal for fans, but business for players and coaches. It has always been that way. If Bo went to Texas A&M, it would have been good on him. That he stayed... that was a personal decision that seems Michigan Man like but it's not. NIL and Portal make that seem new, but it has been in CFB since the day.
February 12th, 2024 at 2:07 PM ^
No, it’s not always just business. Zinter and Corum got NIL money, but wanting to win it all was the biggest reason they came back. And Velasquez very likely isn’t going to play at OSU, so that’s not a business decision, either.
February 12th, 2024 at 3:35 PM ^
Uh... it is his own business. He lettered here. He doesn't lose his credentials. The dude is a Michigan man and the M Club supports him, just as they do anyone else who letters.
February 12th, 2024 at 11:52 PM ^
I can’t imagine he did not get a big signing bonus in exchange for inside info.
February 12th, 2024 at 11:33 AM ^
How much info can he actually provide considering Michigan is bringing in an entirely new defensive staff?
February 12th, 2024 at 11:54 AM ^
...or to be a double agent
"yeah Coach Day, this is a good play to throw right at Will Johnson on a slant"
February 12th, 2024 at 10:21 AM ^
He's also a baseball player. Wonder if this is more about that than football? He didn't see the field at all in football, but was a regular starter on the baseball team last year.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:29 AM ^
That wouldn't exactly make it OK.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:32 AM ^
The buckeye huddle article says he is dropping baseball to only be a walk-on football player
February 12th, 2024 at 10:37 AM ^
That seems really weird, unless they're offering him a job as a grad assistant as part of the deal.
February 12th, 2024 at 11:29 AM ^
Maybe he can only afford in state tuition as a walk on??
February 12th, 2024 at 5:30 PM ^
sounds about right. if hed have to pay his own way for another year at michigan (i believe he just finished his 5th yr) then might as well get in state rate
February 12th, 2024 at 10:22 AM ^
He was getting a Master's in Social Work. Maybe he needed a field study in order to graduate. A school full of coolerpoopers is chock-full of subjects for a great thesis. Also, he's from Columbus. Good luck, kid!
February 12th, 2024 at 10:47 AM ^
Good luck? Fuck that. He and Justin Boren can rot in hell.
February 12th, 2024 at 11:04 AM ^
Seriously? WTF? You sound like how an OSU fan would respond
February 12th, 2024 at 11:22 AM ^
There are 133 FBS schools. There's only TWO that I'd have a problem with him going to, and he picked one of them.
February 12th, 2024 at 11:32 AM ^
He does what is right for him. Get over it.
If we want to keep all our players, we need to make Michigan the best choice. You can't do that, because Michigan isn't the best choice for every athlete. Situations change.
February 12th, 2024 at 2:44 PM ^
Rot in hell? Ehhh a little harsh. Bridges permanently burned? Probably. Coaching is one thing, there's not a lot of coaching jobs out there and I couldnt blame Joe Bolden for coaching at OSU (Mattison is another story, fuck him). But there are over 130 other FBS schools he could have walked on at.
February 12th, 2024 at 12:49 PM ^
And don't forget about Boren's parents - both U-M student athletes that spawned a bunch of OSU football players.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:48 AM ^
As a graduate of the School Social Work at U-M and their dual-program in anthropology, trust me that they have well shall I say a "vast network" of field placements all throughout Michigan and even in southern Indiana and Ohio. Also, leaving the #1 Social Work school in the world for the last 25 years to go to...OSU? Can't see why one would do that.
We actually had about half a dozen OSU undergrads in my graduating class because "this program is just too good."
February 12th, 2024 at 12:02 PM ^
Likely a family situation. He's from Columbus.
February 12th, 2024 at 2:44 PM ^
I usually wish our lads well when they leave Michigan. In this case, I'll just say I hope he doesn't suffer a serious injury.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:25 AM ^
Good luck to the young man. I hope he finds what he is looking for.
February 12th, 2024 at 10:29 AM ^
I wish every student athlete well. And, with transfers - especially, grad transfers - that things work out.
It’s just transferring to Columbus that’s tough to stomach as a fan / alum. He could have gone to almost any other school in the conference and it would be fine with me. It’s suiting up in scarlet and gray. And, it has to be nice that he’ll be playing close to home.
There is one question.. will he wear his NC ring around campus?
February 12th, 2024 at 10:35 AM ^
He's going home to play baseball, chill guys...he never even saw the field for us. Yes, the OSU baseball teams might be able to steal our signs now haha, that's about as far as this goes...
Edit: Hahaha, I feel like The Emperor in Star Wars with all these downvotes, "Let the hate flow through you!", keep 'em coming ya'll, "Strike me down with all of your hatred and your journey to the dark side will be complete!"
February 12th, 2024 at 10:38 AM ^
Article says he's not playing baseball. Why comment on something you didn't read?
February 12th, 2024 at 10:40 AM ^
Isn't that board policy? Site is blocked on my school computer, MY BAAAAAAD GUYS! Go watch some Michigan playoff highlights and take a chill pill.
