NIL: THOSE WHO STAY >$500K
Y’all, Champions Circle, an NIL collecting that’s been officially endorsed by Michigan, launched a campaign to raise $1M for next year’s team. Gotta bring back Will Johnson, Mason Graham, Trente, KG, etc.
We all gotta do our part. Please donate and share!

Are Will and Mason threatening to transfer unless they get paid more? They cannot go pro either way

When Harbaugh leaves, teams will definitely poach our players so yea it’s important to pay them their moneys

don't put that evil on us!

Honestly, even IF Harbaugh goes (which I don't think is a foregone conclusion by any means), if Warde promotes Sherrone into the HC job and is able to keep a bulk of the assistants together (which I think is highly plausible), we won't see too much player attrition. Not saying it's certain, but I think there's a path to keeping the team mostly intact even IF Harbaugh goes to the NFL.

This kind of BPONE may require surgery. You seem fun.

Did the $100k match from the generous donor from yesterday show up?

This has been shared many times and in many ways but it is important enough that I don't mind it getting repeatedly posted. I'm guessing after tonight there may be a flood of donations

Brian,
Michigan football and MGoBlog bring me great joy (and heartache) over the years. I'm skeptical of the NIL collectives where middlemen steal X% of the money donated. I'd love to see some sort of break down of all of the NILs under the Useful Stuff tab and perhaps even an MGoBlog endorsement.
...and just to show that I'm not completely against corruption, I'd like a collective that gives me an MGoPoint for every dollar contributed. Maybe a sticky post that shows my donation similar to a brick at the stadium or a listing in a theater program.

Something like that, akin to what Charity Navigator and others do would be super helpful. What the collectives spend on administrative expenses vs. going to the athletes, are any paying their 'CEO' (or whatever the head is called) a hefty chunk of $$?

When I donated, it appeared that about 6% of my donation amount was tacked on as a processing/administrative fee. That didn't seem too excessive, as I'm used to admin/development cost levels in annual reports for Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and other places to which I donate.

Would be great to keep as many guys as possible but can Will Johnson improve his stock any more? If they win tonight I think he's gone, especially if he has a great game.

He’s a true sophomore.

Doesnt seem like it with the way he plays but having him back next year will be huge then.

These funds are for guys who can actually leave to make more money. Like, JJ or The Don. Sure it might be used to maintain others looking around but that's the intent.

Hopefully the money all works it’s self out and I do appreciate this model of getting guys to stay ( in particular mid-late round guys) over throwing money at high school kids. Just my perspective ( and not suggesting these guys don’t deserve a share of this fund if needed) but I would think JJ can pull in plenty of money on his own from perhaps a single wealthy donor as well as endorsement deals. To a lesser extent I’d hope the same for some of the sophomores like Will, Mason, KG and Moore. I think a collective like this is more intended to get that extra year out of guys like Rod, McGregor, Junior, Stew, Trente ect.
That said it would also just be nice to have a way to put a little money in just about everyone’s pocket that contributes just for being a part of this great team rather than waiting til the money is needed as an assentive.

It's an awesome thing for the sport that the fearmongering political fundraising messages have leaked into college football.
January 8th, 2024 at 11:39 AM ^
not gonna lie, only ~3,500 supporters so far, pretty disappointing (<1%) for an alumni base of 600k+

I've got no issue with people who think they have already made their contributions via tuition, taxes, cable fees, etc.
I put my drop in the bucket, but was conflicted about it.
No hate towards those who don't...

Anyone know the who whales are that made the matching contributions?

I donated. Jake Butt did a promo for it at the front of one of his interview vids.

I think this highlights the issue with both NIL and lack of revenue sharing. The onus is on fans to keep players. We're passing the donation basket around for donations multiple times like its church, while the schools are taking in billions off the backs of these players. I'm all for players getting paid. But something isn't right with the system when when we pay for cable/streaming subscriptions, tickets, merch, donations, tuitions, etc without reaping any of the monetary benefits of the business side like the media companies, apparel sponsors, or schools.
