It really is amazing how everything related to Harbaugh and a contract is as weird as humanly possible. This dude is always odd, but how the hell does he ramp it up so much when a pen and paper are put in front of him?

I think people fall into what has happened in similar situations before and think that’s the way everyone should do it, but there really isn’t a playbook to these things and Jim as a private enterprise has every right to do it his way.  I applaud him being genuine and unequivocally unique.  Just look at state and smith and how they did things just because it’s a “norm” doesn’t make it a good thing.

It's odd because Jim does have some internal conflicts in his personality. A large part of him is totally invested in the transformational experience of the college game for the young men on this team. He wants his players to grow as athletes, as students, and as men. He defers the spotlight to the players (and other coaches) whenever possible. He clearly puts others way before himself in his role as Michigan head coach.

That being said, another part of him clearly has winning a Super Bowl as a personal goal. Unfortunately, that can't co-exist with the above, and that's a shame. Signing that extension probably means, to him, that he'll never achieve his Super Bowl goal. So he's probably working through that as we speak.

I don't envy him at all, but I do understand -- I am struggling with some of the same conflicts, albeit at a much more mundane level.

It's great for Michigan fans but after all the bullshit and chaos of this year and the NCAA and Big Ten legitimately having a blood feud towards him why would he come back?

I thought he was out to the NFL after this season so him staying is good news from the Michigan side. But I am curious how they move forward from this, are they just going to pretend like two major entities didn't want them to suffer?

If Harbaugh waited 2 years before entertaining NFL offers again, seems like that wouldn't matter.  The NFL will always have a head coaching job available for him.  I am biased but if I was JH, I would stay at Michigan for a few more years.  This football team is full speed ahead.

I’m at a point where with Harbaugh, I want to say either just sign the damn thing or go to the NFL, but I’m done with having to sit through and wait out you having this dance that you’re having with the NFL every year.

I want him here. I’d rather he be here than not, but I don’t blame any recruit, especially a top recruit with options, who is sitting there and thinking they can’t commit to Michigan when they don’t even know Harbaugh is going to be there by the time they show up on campus.

If you want to win a Super Bowl, that’s completely fine. Go win a Super Bowl. You’ve taken Michigan to amazing heights and gotten it completely out of the hopeless abyss it was in when you showed up, but I’m fed up with all the uncertainty this forces the program through every winter. Again, what recruit with options is going to commit to this? And what program WOULDN’T be using this against us on the recruiting trail?

Just sign it. Or don’t, so we can promote Sherrone and move on.

IMO, Harbaugh is waiting to see how he does in the CFP.  If he wins it all, he will go to the NFL.  He might even go to the NFL if he just wins the Rose Bowl.  That is why nothing is signed yet, and won't be until mid-January.

If he wins it all for us, he can ride off into the sunset in peace as far as I am concerned.  Go with our blessing.

He will have given us all that we could ask for and then some.

He will be a Michigan legend they'll talk about 100 years from now.

The NHL coaching jobs suck compared to what he has here.  Only one team can win the Superbowl and its heavily QB dependent league and no one is making JH the GM.  JH is a legendary college coach at Michigan and has much more impact on the lives of kids than he would in the NFL.

Jim has said multiple times that he values the well-being of others over his own. I believe that, and I know that he has the personal value system to support such a statement.

Presuming that is true, I don’t know how he could think about the NFL, even for a moment. The impact that he has on players in college is astronomically more significant than what he could achieve in the NFL. The desire for a Super Bowl victory is a selfish, sophomoric goal. That kind of thing gleams to younger men, players and coaches alike, but I think he’d be thinking bigger at this point in his life.

Harbaugh has never seemed like he’s about the money.  But $11M would put him in the lower echelon of NFL coach salaries.  I guess if I’m him, and I want to keep my options open on one last NFL fling, having this kind of money helps with a negotiation.

If the next year passes and there is no great fit, then stay on and this is his legacy.

Since I posted this 12 hours ago I have come to the the conclusion that it’s more likely that Harbaugh leaves for the NFL than signs an extension.  The mutual negotiating in the media signifies to me distrust between Coach and the AD. A troubled relationship that I am not sure can be sustained.

Warde knows how popular Harbaugh is with all the recent success so he has to make an effort at re-signing Harbaugh. But there appears also to be an attitude of “If he leaves he leaves”. Harbaugh is notoriously hard to work with and wears on people. Plus all the recent controversies certainly are not helping with the power brokers.(More than Stapleton IMO)

One, Warde, and Harbaugh appear to be trying to out on appearances for the sake of getting through the season. I suspect that soon after Harbaugh resigns and heads towards the NFL.

At this point I literally want him signed just for what will happen down here in columbus. Like I said before, literally will be chernobyl x 1,000. We had people on live radio asking if harbaugh could be arrested on his way to Indy and would there be a way for him to even be arrested if he crosses state lines into Ohio.

Literally every person here I know are shocked he hasn't been fired and they all 100% believe he will be fired and likely face serious legal action (as one coworking told me, "likely jail time").

This is probably 10-20% of the osu fans that are really over the top to that degree...but they are loud...and there are a lot of them here lol.
