Florida Senator Rick Scott writes to Boo Carrigan
Senator Scott has written a three page request to chairman of CFP on Senate Letterhead. Available on 'x' and he is asking for transparancy and a response to 10 items in addition to the answer as to how FSU was ranked 4 when it was known Jordan Travis was out for Flordida and nothing has changed since that time. He is asking for each commmittee members vote, hte topics of discussions, emails or texts between them, emails and texts between the committee and ESPN, and emails and texts between the committee and the SEC. He acknowledged its too late but still demanding transparency and justification for the loss of revenue that FSU will be subject to.

Did he ask how FSU was ranked ahead of Georgia given everything Boo said yesterday went into their decision?
Because that is more infuriating to me than simply leaving FSU out.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
FSU won conference, Georgia did not. FSU ended up the lowest ranked conference champ. Easy to justify.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
Not using their logic. They should have moved FSU to 15 or so if they were being consistent.
December 4th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
The biggest inconsistency is clearly that they had FSU ranked ahead of both UT and UA through week 13 - even with Jordan Travis injured - and decided to switch course after championship weekend. FSU's QB2 would clearly have been back for the CFP, but they just used that as an excuse to pull in the SEC.
And if they're going to bring in Alabama, they can't have them ranked ahead of TX which beat them, so they just decided to bring in both.
Basically, their undefeated record mattered until it didn't.
December 4th, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
I think it can be justified by saying that Alabama had not beat the #1 ranked two time defending national champion Georgia as of that ranking. Once they did, that bolsters Bama's resume a great deal, and by extension, Texas.
One obvious sticking point is Florida State going 2-0 against the SEC, one of the games happening after the injury.
All that said, I guess I don't feel the same way about this because I went to bed Saturday expecting Bama to get into the Playoff, cuz Bama. I agree it is probably unfair, but at least to me was 100% expected. They have won like 46 national championships in the last 15 years, so if it you v. Bama and it is close you are probably getting the boot.
December 4th, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
My first thought is that you have a very rational take on this.
My second thought is that this is learned helplessness on all of our parts.
December 4th, 2023 at 4:13 PM ^
Not according to the AP. In the AP Poll, FSU is ranked fourth - while Bama is ranked fifth. In the Coaches poll, FSU is ranked third - while Texas and Bama are tied for fifth.
And, the letter is on Senate letterhead. Hmmm... I'm sure that Tommy Tuberville is going to chime in and insist the Bama decision was appropriate.
The only "poll" that has FSU behind Bama is the CFP's Selection Committee. And, in fact, the CFP Selection Committee had FSU in front of Bama and Texas as recently as... ummm, last week - their prior ranking release. The only thing FSU did since that prior poll is win the ACC CCG.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:43 AM ^
Funny thing is that Sen Tommy Tuberville lives and has lived in Florida for the past 10+ years. So if he was going to help his home state school, it may not be ‘bama. Besides, he was the coach of auburn.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:30 PM ^
He can just watch the SEC Shorts video. I'd say that is a good explanation of what happened.

Dear Senator Scott:
Thank you for your letter regarding the College Football Playoff (CFP) Selection Committee (the “Committee”) and your request for documents and other information. Rest assured that we have Top People working on your request and will furnish you the requested information sometime around when Hell hath Frozen Over.
Thank you again and if there is anything else I can help you with, do not hesitate to write.
Sincerely,

Selection Committee Chairman

Brought to you by Rick Scott, former CEO of an insurance company with the largest Medicare/Medicaid fraud in US history.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
I am pretty sure they can just say "no."
December 4th, 2023 at 3:33 PM ^
Or just say ... you're right, it's a horrible system -- we'll change it to a 12 team playoff next year.
December 4th, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
I knew that was gonna be their out to screw FSU and get Bama in
December 4th, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
I guarantee you that there will be teams, and fans of teams crying that they were robbed at a chance at the playoff next year and every year after as well. Nothing will change that. There will always be teams on the outside looking in.
December 4th, 2023 at 5:25 PM ^
But none of those teams will be undefeated power 5 conference champions.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:24 PM ^
You are correct. And if this years FSU played next year they would get in the playoff, and promptly be eliminated by the very first team they play. But they would get in.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:44 PM ^
They could say no and the Senator could start looking into if insider information was being shared with gamblers.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Well that would seem to be even more reason to say no!
December 4th, 2023 at 4:14 PM ^
That would certainly be a topic of conversation for the next four weeks.
December 4th, 2023 at 4:44 PM ^
I will say, after I heard (wasn’t watching) Alabama beat Georgia, I threw $25 on Alabama to win the natty….they were at +500 and something…,I just knew they were going to get in….so I don’t think it took any inside gambling info getting out for people to jump on that….I mean hell, msnbc this morning did a bit on college football, even advertised it by saying Florida St is mad, find out why next….only to interview finebaum and have him and the host declare Alabama deserves to be there more than anyone….
It’s all ridiculous….and all solved if UM kicks their ass!!
(Thats my biased recap of the show this morning, so don’t quote me, but I’m not far off….)
December 4th, 2023 at 5:28 PM ^
I neg anyone that says "natty"... It's a disgusting beer.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:08 PM ^
Two words ought to be Bolivia-worthy here: "Natty" and "Harbs"
December 4th, 2023 at 7:39 PM ^
And "Urbs" or "Urbz."
December 4th, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
I think you are giving Rick Scott a little too much credit here. This is just an opportunity to get people to say his name.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
Is this potentially the greatest scandal in the history of the NCAA? If so, Senator Scott should draft Toni Pettiti for assistance in the investigation, given the B1G commissioner's unparalleled leadership and investigative skills.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
I guess Nick Saban will end up being suspended for the next 2 games
December 4th, 2023 at 4:13 PM ^
I'm sure Tony Petite Tits could also let him know about a good PI firm, too.
December 4th, 2023 at 4:44 PM ^
At my age, I wish my tits were petit.

December 4th, 2023 at 4:36 PM ^
Better still, the NCAA should have some fun with it. They could tell Scott that FSU out / Bama in was payoff to Tommy Tuberville in order to get Tubie to stop screwing around with Pentagon promotions.
If he bought it, it would be a real "get the popcorn" moment on the Senate floor.
December 4th, 2023 at 4:39 PM ^
That may be true, but by doing so it looks like they are, you know, actually hiding something.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:28 PM ^
No soup for you
December 4th, 2023 at 3:28 PM ^
This is the first time I've supported Rick Scott in my life. (Met him briefly a few years ago. Nice enough guy in person.)
December 4th, 2023 at 3:43 PM ^
Can't say I like anything about Rick Scott... and he gives off Voldemort vibes
December 4th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
His latest campaign ad...yikes.
December 4th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
Skeletor. I had his action figure back in the 80's.
Also Bat Boy.
December 4th, 2023 at 5:29 PM ^
Agree here! Rick Scott is a despicable person - but I fully support his efforts here!
December 4th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
If we're looking to stem unfairness in college football, there will be a lot of layers of this onion to unpeel. But--and this will be the first time that I agreed with Senator Scott on anything--I welcome this request. Would be VERY interesting to have insight about the twists and turns of committee thinking, and lobbying, as Vegas was posting bets. . .
Gotta say one more thing that I think is important, though, and that is that one of the biggest lessons here is being overlooked: Jordan Travis and all of these kids should be getting paid. Hundreds of millions of dollars in the balance, and the performers work for free? Would love to see Jim make some noise about this.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
A-Fucking-Men
December 4th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
The CFP committee may have unknowingly set the market price for what a QB is worth. They basically said Jordan Travis is worth the lost payout of being in the playoff. Since the CFP is only sanctioned by the NCAA, and not actually run by the NCAA, this would give Harbaugh an interesting new talking point in his efforts to get players paid.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
Brian’s idea from the podcast was notable: just have a play-in game between Alabama and FSU. Whoever refuses to play would be ineligible for the fourth spot; it goes to whoever wins the game.

"We'll get back to you once you serve time in jail for that massive Medicare fraud you oversaw that helped fund your jump into politics."

At least our senators are working on important problems
December 4th, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
ha well in terms of constituent priorities im sure its near the top! plenty down there agree fsu got robbed. they made their run one year too early
December 4th, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
All of this FSU stuff is doing precisely 1 thing - It is making Alabama really, really angry.
December 4th, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
Alternate hypothesis: They're chuckling, because they know how much power the SEC wields and they know they're the most immediate beneficiary of it.
