I agree. I think the actual best 4 teams are Michigan, OSU, Texas, and Washington. But they can't and won't boot 2 conference champs (1 of which is 13-0) for a team that didn't even win its division. But based on pure eye test, I'm not convinced the national championship wasn't decided in the Big House last weekend.

I've noticed the accepted talking point is Bama has the best win and Texas has the second best win, or maybe it's the other way around.

Apparently Michigan's and Washington's wins over OSU and Oregon don't get consideration. I guess Michigan's win was at home and UW had a win at home as well. But UGA was just sort of gifted the #1 ranking, it wasn't earned. And the Texas win at Bama was a million years ago before Bama was looking like this (and by "like this" that includes them deserving a loss at Auburn).

Michigan has the best win of the year. Plus the win at Penn State. Both of which happened without a head coach.

Should:

1. Michigan

2. Washington

3. FSU (I know this is controversial.. but if we say they're in over 1 loss Alabama, then they shouldn't be dropped behind 1 loss Texas)

4. Texas

Will:

1. Michigan

2. Washington

3. Texas

4. Alabama

I would like to say… while the SEC love by everyone is annoying, it’s kind of deserved 1 and 2, we can all blame OSU for getting the ball rolling. OSU got whooped by Florida and LSU in back to back years which started the run of SEC domination. It always comes back to a resounding fuck osu

Valid point. Not that I agree, but I can see the argument in that. At the end of the day, I would absolutely hate to be apart of the selection committee last night and today. Picking a top 4 is going to piss off 50% of the country, and then ranking 3 and 4 will piss off another large group.

It is not "deserved." Stop with that narrative. I've said this in another thread,  that's sec marketing and propaganda you're parroting. If the big 12 and pac 12 can be left out,  like in years past, then the sec shouldn't be immune to the same treatment. Look at THIS YEAR'S picture. This year's picture shows that fsu should be in and that only leaves one spot. That spot should go to Texas. They beat Bama on the road by double digits. So Bama and Georgia should be out and thus the sec should be out. The past seasons do not matter only this season matters.

If you look at what my "should" and "will" rankings are... then you'll see I left the SEC out. So I'm not really sure what you're arguing here. My statement at the end just explains why OSU is to blame for the SEC (in my opinion deserved) benefit of the doubt. Look at my whole post, though, and you'll see I think the SEC SHOULD get left out of the CFP.

What they should do:  Michigan;  Washington;  Texas;  Florida State

What they will do:  Michigan, Washington; Texas;  Alabama

What they should do if you insist on Alabama being there and it really is just best 4:

Michigan;  Alabama;  Washington;  Texas

At the end of the day, it comes down to whether it should be the best four teams only or whether you have to mix best, deserving, nod to how they're playing now, all with good taste or you want to whine about transparency and hard rules/definitions because you think the world is simple.  In my case, I lean a lot on "deserving" and can live with other people disagreeing.

Also, the only way you put Washington above Michigan is if you think you should only judge things with just the last game.  Include the last two games (or any more) you have Michigan >> Washington.

What should happen 1. Michigan 2. Washington 3. Texas 4. FSU

What will happen 1. Michigan 2. Washington 3. Texas 4. Bama

What could happen for potential championship game ratings

1. Washington 2. Michigan 3. Texas 4. Bama

Should (As in, who do I think are the 4 best teams?)

Michigan, Washington, Alabama, Georgia

Should (As in, no 13-0 Power 5 champ has ever been left out and Texas, Alabama, Georgia have some head-to-head results we can base the decision from)

Michigan, Washington, FSU, Texas

FSU defense is pretty good, but I think I’d rather them than Texas.

I fear we’ll have a similar gripe as Georgia fans last year, where Michigan gets #1 seed but the harder semi-final matchup.

Should do is fairly obvious:

There are 3 undefeated P5 champions and two with 1 loss. Of those two, one beat the other one on the road by 2 scores.

1. Michigan

2. Washington

3. FSU

4. Texas

ESPN broadcasts the CFP and put out a "prediction" of what the committee's rankings will look like and had FSU behind both Alabama and Georgia at #6. So, yeah, that's probably what they will do.

My ideal matchup is:

1. Michigan

2. UW

3. Texas

4. FSU

What the committee will do:

1. Michigan

2. UW

3. Texas

4. Bama

Troll Matchups:

1. Bama

2. Michigan

3. UW

4. Georgia

Michigan, Washington and Texas are pretty clear cut top 3 right now. Beyond that, I don’t know what’s going to happen.

Who deserves the fourth spot? FSU. But who do I think is a better team right now? Probably Alabama, and they just knocked off the #1 team. It’s hard to envision a world where the SEC is just left out.

If Travis wasn’t injured, I’d say FSU gets the nod. But he’s injured and that changes the dynamic. For those saying “Well OSU got in with a third string QB,” yes that’s true, but that OSU team beat a top-15 Wisconsin team 59-0 in the conference championship. So that’s the bar. FSU didn’t come close to that last night.

I know what I’d rather see. I want:

1) Michigan

2) Washington

3) Texas

4) FSU

But I don’t think that’s what we’re going to get. We’re going to get Alabama at that four spot.

I don't like the idea of "downgrading" a teams chances of qualifying because of an injury and/or player availability.

99% of the the players that helped FSU go undefeated are available to play and they have earned the right over Alabama.

I think you let them play and honor their season.

Look at it this way, if a team needs to slip past a team with an injured player to make the dance, do they really deserve to be there?

We all said if the 4 unbeatens won, they’d be in… Georgia, Michigan, Washington, FSU. There was almost no controversy.

But Georgia’s loss means most think FSU likely out despite a double digit conference championship game win and a new team in.

Yep it all sounds great having undefeated conference champions go, until the little SEC darlings get got, then we have problems.

We wouldn’t see this politicking if Michigan, FSU, or Washington lost. They would be out and that would be that.

I’m not saying Georgia or Alabama suck. Georgia lost their conference in a year where they absolutely could not do so. There are far too many teams eligible to step in. And if we are gonna get blasted for “ain’t played nobody,” please see Bulldogs, Georgia.

Bama lost by 10 at home this year to Texas and played tight games against some flat out dogshit teams in A&M, USF, Auburn, and Arkansas. And they probably should’ve split those games, but kudos to winning them I guess.

If every other power conference can get shut out, then the SEC can get it this year. They propped up Missouri and Tennessee all year for this moment, in a year where the SEC wasn’t quite vintage SEC. They’ll get 5-7 teams in on the regular in the future I’m sure, so sit this one out and seethe.

After watching last night, Florida State has no business in there if the criteria is four best teams. And that's been the stated criteria by people running it over the years.

They've been winning.

And Tim Tebow also won games as a starting NFL quarterback too. Quite a few at one point actually.

But both are hopeless against quality competition on the big stage.

1. Washington v. 4 Alabama. Sugar Bowl

2. Michigan v. 3. Texas. Rose Bowl

Not a big fan of narrative final four.
If JJ suffered season ending injury yesterday, then M would be out?!?!?!

All week the narrative was “Oregon might be best team”; Washington beat them rather soundly, to “earn” their way in. Florida State earned an invite yesterday, and, cumulatively, all season.

Why not put OSU in??? They have strong case as one of 4 best.  They will tell you all about.

Going to feel bad for Florida State.  Texas too, if they are left out.  I’m pretty much certain at this point, the SEC is not getting left out

Should

1. Michigan, 2. Washington, 3. Texas, 4. FSU

Will

1. Alabama, 2. Georgia, 3. Missouri, 4. Mississippi

Sankey put me into a trance. He also convinced me that Michigan should get SMU-in-the-80s treatment.

WWKD?  What Would Kirby Do?  Kirby thinks Georgia is one of the best four teams.

So, in Kirby’s world - three “essentially” SEC teams would be in.   First, Georgia because of what they did in ‘21 and ‘22.  Second, you have to include Bama because Bama beat Georgia.  And third, you’d need to include Texas (who will be an SEC team next season) - because Texas defeated Bama.

So,at a minimum - Kirby would have Georgia, Bama, and Texas - maybe, there would be room for Tennessee too - and it could be a perfect SEC family affair.

Finebaum listed his prediction, right after he participated in a post game gang bang with Sankey, Saban and Smart.  He was the one who's face was splattered!  Heather Dinich was jealous!!

1. Bama  2. Georgia 3. Texas 4. Ole Miss

Committee

1.Michigan

2. Washington

3. Texas

4. Alabama

should be IMO

1. Washington

2. Michigan

3.  Texas

4.  Bama

These are the 4 best teams Georgia already lost their play in game.  All 4 teams won their conference championships. All four teams would be heavily favored on a neutral field against fsu. You can’t put Bama in without putting Texas in.

What they should do is what they will do because this is much easier than people are making it.

The 3 undefeated P5 conference champions (UM, UW, FSU) all go up one spot because of UGA’s loss. The committee then looks at the 2 one-loss P5 conference champions. Since one (UT) beat the other (Bama) by 2 scores on the road, the committee puts them in the last spot.

The only question is where UM will play. I heard a rumor last night that Harbaugh wants to play on turf, which would mean the Sugar Bowl. Hopefully the rumor is wrong.

The committee should be forced to rewatch Alabama vs Auburn, played 8 days ago.  No way in hell Alabama should make it.  Michigan, Washington, Texas, FSU.  Book it.  And that's what the SEC-gobbling ESPN says it's fancy stats tell it

Should:

1: Michigan

2: Washington

3: Florida State

4: Texas

will:

1: Washington

2: Michigan

3: Alabama

4: Texas

my assumption is always maximum screwage for Michigan. We get to play SEC in SEC country when they shouldn’t even be there.
