So when Bama beats Georgia, cfp has to be this right?

Those pundits are wrong. If Michigan loses to Iowa, Michigan is out .
November 26th, 2023 at 9:20 AM ^
Georgia is in regardless
November 26th, 2023 at 9:21 AM ^
Should be…won’t be
November 26th, 2023 at 9:22 AM ^
What do we think this week’s rankings will be?
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Washington
4. FSU
5. Oregon
6. Alabama
7. Texas
8. Ohio State
To me this seems the most likely given last week’s rankings.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:38 AM ^
This is probably correct, though if voters applied the same principles to the SEC they apply to other conferences, Bama's luck box win over a team that lost to New Mexico State would equate to a slide in the rankings.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:23 AM ^
No way SEC champ is left out at 12-1.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:28 AM ^
There is exactly and precisely 0 chance that the playoff committee will allow 0 SEC teams. In fact if Alabama beats Georgia, I wouldn't put it past the committee to put them both in.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:29 AM ^
First, M has to win because otherwise the big could be left out. M would potentially need FSU and Texas to lose. So, beat Iowa. And the rest of this assumes they win.
If FSU wins they are in, but it'll be dicey regardless. It’s not the most sterling resume but undefeated is big. A Georgia win is obvi, meaning it’s 1) Wash if they win, 2) Texas if they win and Wash loses, then 3) Ore if they win and Texas loses. A Bama win creates crazy drama as that’ll elevate Texas further and even undefeated Wash could be hosed despite beating Oregon twice. A FSU loss gives life to Texas and the pac but then it depends on the sec game even more.
I don’t recall championship weekend being this important for the entire playoff field.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:36 AM ^
Georgia will not drop out of the top 4. I am rooting for Georgia.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:47 AM ^
That's my gut, too, though if Bama, Michigan, Washington, Texas and FSU all win, the committee is going to be in a hell of a spot. There's no way a one-loss Georgia moves ahead of Michigan or Washington. So that leaves two spots for four teams: unbeaten FSU, and one-loss Bama, Georgia and Texas. Even if you're willing to put in two one-loss teams ahead of unbeaten FSU, which two? Georgia ahead of Bama, who just beat them? Georgia ahead of Big 12 champ Texas, who actually beat Bama? It seems surreal that Georgia could be left out entirely, but I think there is a chance.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
There is definitely a chance and there should be, because their resume at that point isn't very impressive, SEC bias withstanding.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:37 AM ^
Because I think conference championship games, and the CFP, are stupid (if I had my way, Michigan and Washington would be on their way to the best Rose Bowl in years), the perverse part of me kinda wants to see the ultra chaos scenario of Bama, Oregon, Texas, Louisville and, yes, Iowa winning next week. That would result in no unbeaten teams and eight one-loss teams (most of whom lost only to each other) vying for the four playoff spots. In that case, the field would be, I think:
1. Oregon
2. Texas
3. Bama
4. Georgia
No one would be happy! Especially not one-loss Washington, Ohio State or Michigan.
I don't REALLY want Michigan to lose to Iowa next week, nor do I think it's remotely likely. But this scenario would also feature the Big Ten being punished, in a very tangible way, for the existence of Iowa football. Which does seem fitting.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:45 AM ^
Only if Washington wins. If the commitee has to choose between SEC champion Alabama and PAC-12 champion Oregon they would take Bama in a heartbeat. The doomsday scenario for ESPN and the committee is Texas, FSU, Michigan, Bama, and Washington winning next week.
Texas would have the head-to-head over Bama. Michigan, FSU, and Washington would be in as undefeated P5 champions. There's talk that they might leave out FSU if they scrape past Louisville since they lost their QB and the committee is technically supposed to choose the four best teams. But that would be insane, they can't leave out an undefeated P5 champ.
1. Michigan
2. Washingon
3. FSU
4. Texas
Washington might jump Michigan if they beat Oregon again. But I don't see how the committee could reasonably put an SEC team in the field in this scenario. I would be so sweet.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:45 AM ^
Your top 4 in the CF Playoffs would be awesome. SEC tears would flood the South.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:48 AM ^
We should all pray for an FSU victory bc if Bama wins I’d much rather play FSU in the 4 spot than Bama.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:48 AM ^
We’re going to know a lot more where the committee’s head is at after this weekend although you would think the top 4 would be
Georgia
Michigan
Washington
FSU
Unless you want to reward Michigan for having a better resume/numbers than Georgia. It’s close. Lots of good teams this year. Too bad the 12 team format didn’t start this year.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:51 AM ^
Bama beating Georgia would mean
1. Michigan
2. Texas
3. Bama
4. Oregon
I think everything lines up for them to leave FSU out. And everyone acts like an undefeated power 5 champ has never missed the chance at a national title. It would seem wrong but feel like the right decision to me. When the 2nd best ACC team is losing to a bottom SEC team it makes it hard to leave the 1 loss SEC champ out for an undefeated ACC champ.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:57 AM ^
If Michigan loses to Iowa (not going to happen), the OSU would get in. They would have 1 loss and that loss would be to a higher ranked team than UMs loss. The committee would ignore a 2 loss conference champ and head-to-head. Just like they will if it's between Texas and Bama. If Bama beats Georgia, it's a stone cold lock that they are in.
By the way, how Bama won that game is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. It looked like it was fixed.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:06 AM ^
If Michigan loses to Iowa, I think there's a good chance the Big Ten is shut out entirely, especially if Bama beats Georgia. I don't think a one-loss Michigan or Ohio State is getting in ahead of an undefeated FSU, or a one-loss Georgia, Alabama or Texas, or maybe even a one-loss Washington.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:11 AM ^
The whole point of the CFP is to have the championship settled on the field. Yet we still persist in having some committee behind closed doors decide that a team that couldn't even make it's own conference championship game (yes I'm talking about you 2022 OSU) should be in the CFP.
I'm down with the OP's ratings. No OSU. No loser of the SEC championship game.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:18 AM ^
I said this in another thread, assuming no chaos - the SEC champ gets in, but if it’s bama I can’t see GA getting in too.
M
SEC CHAMP
Pac12 champ
then you have in order of priority:
1) FSU if they win (remember the committee took TCU last year despite not passing the “eye test”)
2) TX if FSU losses
if I’m a Washington fan, though, I would be rightfully pissed if we lose to Oregon then get left out. But, that’s the situation right now.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:46 AM ^
For those of us who find keeping OSU out a priority, Bama beating UGA would actually help add another team ahead of OSU, so I am for it.
Last year a lot of you clowns were cheering when USC and Tennessee lost.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
The committee will spin to include Alabama, earlier in the year loss, however both have conference championships in this scenario, Georgia could be out.
November 26th, 2023 at 1:24 PM ^
shea, it ain't so!
November 26th, 2023 at 2:24 PM ^
I am in favor of whatever gets us matched up with Florida State in the semis and keeps Ohio State OUT.
