Pat Mcafee calls out the NCAA
November 17th, 2023 at 9:30 PM ^
Maybe a synopsis for those of us who like to pretend we don't want to let the Chinese spy on us by avoiding one site while using anything and everything else manufactured there?
November 17th, 2023 at 9:33 PM ^
Mainly about JMU, but mentions the hamburgers in list of worthless NCAA actions.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
It's a rant about how they ruin people's lives and combine authoritarianism run amok with sheer stupidity.
I don't disagree, but I can't stand the guy, and it was basically a show for the home (JMU) crowd who are pissed about being excluded from a bowl game.
November 17th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
As they should be. The NCAA is pathetic on this issue. They say it's in the interest of "long term stability". You know what would help with long term stability? TV revenue from a NY6 bowl. This JMU situation further proves the NCAA are a bunch of clowns.
November 18th, 2023 at 1:40 AM ^
JMU should get to go bowling, but it irritates me that the same people arguing the NCAA should ignore the dumb rule barring JMU from the postseason are also arguing for Michigan to be hammered for violating another one of the NCAA’s obscure and stupid rules.
November 18th, 2023 at 9:04 AM ^
I get the McAfee sentiment, but I like the guy and think he's really helped Gameday, as Corso has continued his sad age related decline
November 17th, 2023 at 9:35 PM ^
Meh. Everyone spies on us. Might as well enjoy life instead of being paranoid that the CCP knows you like yoga, and women's volleyball videos more than you should.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:46 PM ^
This sounds oddly, specifically autobiographical.
November 17th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
2004 Olympics watching Misty May and Kerri Walsh made me a fan of the game.

Women's handball is where it's at.

I didn't click, but it's prob just McAfee in a shirt with no sleeves ranting about the NCAA being stupid (because, duh)
November 18th, 2023 at 8:31 AM ^
Why is it that every time I see him in that tank top I get the feeling that he smells bad.
November 18th, 2023 at 9:05 AM ^
Axe body spray with a hint of more axe body spray is my guess..

I love how everyone on this site is somehow a legal expert and insider, but can't figure out how to embed links.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:41 PM ^
Now that shit is funny!
November 17th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
In Soviet Russia, link embeds you
November 17th, 2023 at 9:52 PM ^
Not only that but I am always impressed that they are experts (hereafter known as 'spurts) on every new topic that comes up. They must be very well read. I see the same thing on rcmb as well which I find to be a bit puzzling.
November 17th, 2023 at 10:08 PM ^
Spurts?
Please, no more Tucker references.....
November 18th, 2023 at 1:43 AM ^
I happen to be a legal expert, and my opinion is..

Pretty much called the NCAA a bunch of dumbasses
November 17th, 2023 at 9:33 PM ^
This guy will fall off the map by next season. Book it. Money talks. Not moranz
To be clear, I don't disagree with what he said.
November 17th, 2023 at 10:21 PM ^
Pat McAfee isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I don't listen/watch anything he does but many, many people do. He's here to stay.
November 17th, 2023 at 10:40 PM ^
Follow the money
November 17th, 2023 at 11:09 PM ^
I don’t know. I don’t see the hook with him. I think he is a short timer.
November 18th, 2023 at 8:22 AM ^
Your average dumb sports fan seems to like him. I agree with your opinion that he is terrible, but everyone with a long standing program in sports "arguing" is pretty terrible, and yet there they are, cranking out shows every day.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:34 PM ^
Lol, he's really testing ESPN's limits on his show's artistic freedom. Daddy NCAA is going to be on the phone with Disney.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:40 PM ^
McAfee goes off on the NCAA and calls it like it is.
McAfee gets canned.
pretty much a win win
November 17th, 2023 at 10:06 PM ^
Disney: Hello this is Mickey Mouse.
NCAA: Hello, yeah we are gonna need you to fire Pat or we are going to launch an investigation into Pluto giving out dogs treats to recruits.
November 18th, 2023 at 12:44 AM ^
They should investigate the fact that while Goofy and Pluto are both dogs, Goofy wears clothes (albeit crappy hobo clothes), walks on two legs, and can talk, while Pluto can do none of those things and has even been depicted as a pet Goofy owns. The crime against simple logic is far worse than anything Michigan has done.
November 18th, 2023 at 8:33 AM ^
Shades of Lumbergh.
November 17th, 2023 at 11:08 PM ^
The NCAA has much bigger problems to worry about than a self-obsessed blabbermouth like Pat. Look up House v. NCAA. With the losing streak the NCAA is currently on in the court system, they are facing their own death penalty right now.
November 18th, 2023 at 8:23 AM ^
I think that you have the power structure backwards here.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:34 PM ^
For those who don't want to copy/paste and watch, Pat is going off (and jumping around a lot) criticizing the NCAA for not bending the rules for JMU to play in a bowl game.
Two things.
1. JMU agreed to this 2-year bowl ban as a part of their jump to FBS. So, they knew what they were signing up for.
2. McAfee is a clown show.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
They all agree to it. It's supposed to be one of the dis-incentives to jump from 1AA. If they don't bother enforcing the rule for JMU, why have it?
November 17th, 2023 at 9:46 PM ^
My understanding is that it was put in place to prevent teams from moving up to the Division I level before they are ready. But if they are able to make a bowl game two years in a row (let alone be ranked #18 in the AP), then that shows that they were ready to move up to Division I. In other words, the rule can only punish those teams that should not be punished by its own logic.
November 17th, 2023 at 11:21 PM ^
One reason for the rule was to prevent teams about to move taking FBS players (who wouldn't have to sit out a year) and then bringing them into the FBS, bypassing the old "sit out a year" rule. Obviously, that reason no longer applies.
A second reason is that the transition procedure allows the upgrading school those two years to meet the total scholarship and sport requirements. But there's no reason to penalize schools like JMU and Jacksonville State who met all of the FBS scholarship/team numbers before they even moved up.
The logical rule would be that schools who are already at the FBS requirements for scholarships and teams should be bowl-eligible, while not allowing schools who haven't yet met the requirements to play in bowls.
November 18th, 2023 at 9:24 AM ^
This is a very logical and well reasoned thought process. Unfortunately you have no future working for the NCAA.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
1. It's a stupid rule that hurts student athletes.
2. Agree.
November 17th, 2023 at 10:01 PM ^
It's one of those fun little things that people seize on to get incensed about, rather than the fact that their teeth are falling out, or that have to do a Go Fund Me to defray the cost of their cancer treatments. Basic bread and circuses kind of stuff.
November 17th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
I don't know about others, but I'm perfectly capable of getting incensed about more than one thing at a time.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
He is calling them out on everything including cheeseburger gate. He doesn’t mention them all but he says “name a decision where you’re like, Yah, that’s a great decision”.
He is being a populist for fans and he is annoying but I support the message. I don’t see any negative.
The new guy at the NCAA is apparently a smart and decent guy. His only messaging has been around congressional NIL standards which is a positive. Maybe he needs to lean in on the bs day to day operations.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
Then you're missing the point. NCAA rules are ridiculous in a laughable attempt to be relevant.
It's like the Mudhens jumping to the MLB but being ineligible for post season...y'all just playing for fun your first two seasons. This is some anti-trust bullshit.
November 18th, 2023 at 4:17 AM ^
I think the rule is also to create a minor disincentive to more and more teams abandoning the FCS trying to move up to FBS to grab a greater share of that lucre.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:35 PM ^
Tik Tok goes the cat.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:43 PM ^
Yeah, this Michigan thing affects all of us dearly, but JMU is getting fucked in the ass. Good for Macafee for calling the NCAA out.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
Agree. JMU is getting ass-raped harder than most. They have EARNED the right to play in the Sun Belt CG and a bowl game - possibly a New Years 6 game. The NCAA is just being the NCAA - doing nothing to help programs succeed...
