Good article about possible transfers to Michigan
Five interesting guys who are likely to go into the portal, three of whom we recruited heavily.
One typo in the section about the Bama WR - they mistake Tyler Morris for Roman Wilson.
Of course we hope that JJ and Wilson come back next year, but I would be happy taking any or all of these guys.

Only one QB on that list and lots of defensive players. I feel like Michigan will be pretty good on defense next year. They need to portal a QB and hopefully some OL and a WR. Maybe they can get Jalon Daniels or Cam Rising?

I also thought Maalik Murphy was a reasonable option because IF Arch is the anointed one Murphy's time in Texas will come to an end sooner rather than later; to be clear I am not saying Arch is going to be any good, that is just how it has been framed. And Michigan was hard after Murphy before he chose Texas. I also think Riley Leonard at Duke makes a lot of sense because it is likely his coach will be leaving for greener pastures. Duke is a high level academic institution so a transfer to Michigan makes sense. Of course Leonard could stay put, or transfer to whatever school Elko ends up at, but a year at Michigan, a complete team, makes a ton of sense for a guy looking to make himself appealing to NFL scouts.

For some reason I read "Riley Leonard" as "Lincoln Riley" at first and thought "he's going to Duke?!?!?"
November 15th, 2023 at 11:36 AM ^
Ewers is reportedly coming back so let's just go get Arch and skip the interim QB.
November 15th, 2023 at 11:37 AM ^
Remember, even Stanford credits don't get by our admissions office so Fuck Duke credits. Gotta be a grad transfer to get in this damn place.

I dont feel bad if Tuttle is the starter next year, he is a good QB!
November 15th, 2023 at 9:24 AM ^
I think it'll be Denegal. He looks good to me
November 15th, 2023 at 10:51 AM ^
I'll take that bet.
November 15th, 2023 at 9:28 AM ^
Tuttle is out of eligibility after this year.
November 15th, 2023 at 10:54 AM ^
Are you sure? I know he had a covid red shirt and a regular redshirt. I thought he was at Indiana for 4 years.
November 15th, 2023 at 11:02 AM ^
He's class of 2018, so this is his 6th year.
November 15th, 2023 at 11:15 AM ^
You're right. I looked it up and he apparently had a year at Utah.
November 15th, 2023 at 8:56 AM ^
There's going to be a lot of portal QBs available this year. Between the coaching carousel and top schools losing their QBs to the draft resulting in QB competitions, there's going to be a lot of QBs transferring
November 15th, 2023 at 5:56 AM ^
I wouldn’t assume JJ is leaving.
November 15th, 2023 at 7:01 AM ^
If we beat OSU, he gone.
I mean there is reason for unreasonable hope - Aiden Hutchinson, Jake Long, etc.... but his stock is so high and our schedule next year is a nightmare.
Do not get my hopes up.
November 15th, 2023 at 7:14 AM ^
Why would our schedule being difficult be justification for him leaving? If anything, that would be incentive for a frat QB to stay.
November 15th, 2023 at 9:58 AM ^
What's a "frat QB"?
Asking for my fraternity brothers...
November 15th, 2023 at 7:23 AM ^
I think his draft stock suffers this year because he is competing with an absurdly strong qb draft class. I’d say it’s 50/50.
November 15th, 2023 at 8:04 AM ^
It is just as likely that he would be the first qb off the board-the #1 pick and get paid a ton. It also makes sense to enter the draft early, with a strong class, in order to get picked later in the first round by one of the top organizations-instead of the bad ones who are drafting at the top. Very much a win-win for him. Otherwise, I have no idea what he will do. The current Michigan trend is that he returns.
November 15th, 2023 at 8:57 AM ^
It's not just as likely he'll be the 1st QB taken. No one has him tabbed as such.
November 15th, 2023 at 10:58 AM ^
But some people have said he's a Heisman candidate and possible top 10 pick. If he performs at a high level in the Ohio game and 2 games in the play-offs he is gone.
November 15th, 2023 at 11:02 AM ^
Dude you have no idea, you are guessing and declaring it a fact.
That's not how any of this works.
He has shown near zero concern for his own stats, or how the game is called. He is the epitome of a team player, clearly loves Michigan and his coaches and teammates. He's exactly the type of guy I could see returning for his senior year, to cement his legacy in Michigan Football history. Not to mention, this season has been full of distractions, and bullshit.
It's no foregone conclusion that he leaves.
November 15th, 2023 at 11:19 AM ^
Of course I'm guessing. That's all anyone is doing. (Except that you apparently think your opinion is fact.)
November 15th, 2023 at 11:39 AM ^
Can you explain to me where I posited anything as a fact?
I don't think that word means what you think it means.
November 15th, 2023 at 9:45 AM ^
Lions (a dude can dream...)
November 15th, 2023 at 11:43 AM ^
They are going to pay Goff - he is in the prime of his career, and they have Hooker redshirting.
November 15th, 2023 at 11:41 AM ^
It's not absurdly strong. It's Caleb and Maye at the top as 1A 1B depending on how the scouts view them. Penix they have late 1st to 2nd in a lot of places lots of injury concerns. Daniels has warts. As does Nix. There is no clear cut QB3.
Scouts could care less about Heisman.
And NFL teams (rightly) over draft QBs as it's the most important position in sports.
November 15th, 2023 at 8:08 AM ^
He's looking at like 5 million a year if he goes like #7, i dont think we can muster up more than 2mil best case scenario. Going to be hard for him to stay.
November 15th, 2023 at 8:24 AM ^
What are JJ's draft projections? I don't follow it closely but I've heard late first round? It seems like there are 3-5 QBs who might get taken before him. I'm not sure what the 25 QB draft class looks like in comparison but maybe he would rate higher with another year in college under his belt and less competition.
November 15th, 2023 at 8:37 AM ^
As of today, he is no longer in the 1st round mock on the cbs site. Jaden Daniels is now mid 1st and JJ is not.
So, I would guess if he is not projected to go in the 1st round that he would come back.
November 15th, 2023 at 8:59 AM ^
Any mock draft that is that volatile from week to week is not worth listening to. At this point, it seems like most mock drafts have JJ pretty comfortably as a mid first round pick and the 3rd or 4th QB off the board
November 15th, 2023 at 9:08 AM ^
Oh I agree. Those change week to week and it is 6 months out. Just is interesting how he was solidly mid 1st a few weeks ago and now he is not in their 1st round.
Things change as the wind blows
November 15th, 2023 at 11:46 AM ^
Anywhere from mid 1st to 2nd is where I have seen him but he will have great measurables and blow GMs away with his interviews etc. That is a guy who will raise his stock after actual football is over by a lot. There is really no clear cut guy after the top 2 who figure to go top 5. Then it's pick your flavor by the GMs with everyone else.
November 15th, 2023 at 9:55 AM ^
With four starters graduating on the offensive line, he’s not going to want to play behind what might make him run all over the place and a down season could hurt his draft stock. If they portal well for receivers, another tight end and some linemen then he might consider it.
November 15th, 2023 at 10:12 AM ^
Is the draft class chart wrong? It says that all of our starters are Juniors. It seems like Zinter and Keegan go pro, but there are some coin flips for the rest of the guys right? Who's going for sure?
November 15th, 2023 at 11:14 AM ^
Don't worry about the graduating O-Line (if any). We live in the age of the transfer portal and we have a good track record of using it to fill O-Line gaps. Another Olu please.
November 15th, 2023 at 12:48 PM ^
Seems we have good centers all ready..tackles though I am not sure about.
November 15th, 2023 at 11:47 AM ^
I'd imagine UM is going to be a place grad transfer OLs are going to come in annually to help their stock and get real coaching.
November 15th, 2023 at 6:03 AM ^
Maalik Murphy is second on the depth chart behind Ewers. No way he hits the portal. Arch Manning is more likely. Then, the mistake Morris for Wilson. This article is garbage.
November 15th, 2023 at 7:15 AM ^
Harsh. But it does just read like one fan’s wishlist.
November 15th, 2023 at 7:15 AM ^
And has Ewers said something? Because he is still almost certainly a first-round pick. Why would he stay?
November 15th, 2023 at 7:23 AM ^
On3 reporting that he's 90% likely to comeback, but who knows. Certainly got me to click,
November 15th, 2023 at 10:31 AM ^
I don't think Ewers is a first round pick yet. He's good, but I wouldn't say he's better than JJ or Jaden Daniels. I'd put him on par with Penix, Williams, and Nix, though(none of whom I'd put on a tier with McCarthy or Daniels).
November 15th, 2023 at 7:18 AM ^
#2 on the depth chart at QB...a backup is still a backup.
Arch can afford to wait. Maalik could absolutely feel like after two seasons, he's not going to sit for a third.
I could depend on how close he is to graduating. Because if he was an EE, he could stay and still grad transfer after next year and have 2 years of eligibility.
Being an underclassman transfer to Michigan is tough from Stanford (Myles Hinton)...I can't imagine it would work too well for Maalik when he's so close to a degree.
November 15th, 2023 at 7:33 AM ^
He's a R-FR and has a clear path to start at a premier program. He's not leaving. Besides, Arch looks like dog shit and doesn't look like a threat either.
November 15th, 2023 at 7:43 AM ^
He will be second next year as well. You think they paid all that money for Arch to sit the bench for 2 years? Just because Murphy stayed this year, doesn't mean he will next year as well. But you may be right about the article. Does just seem to mostly be most or all conjecture.
November 15th, 2023 at 6:21 AM ^
They're all going to be upperclassmen. Getting them past admissions is going to be a Herculean effort. Awfully nice list of talent, though.
November 15th, 2023 at 7:01 AM ^
Aside from the admissions aspect, I doubt Nolen would want to give up the "NIL" cash he's getting from the oilmen down in TX.
November 15th, 2023 at 7:15 AM ^
Agreed. He went to A&M for $$ and he'll stay there for $$.
November 15th, 2023 at 8:28 AM ^
Based upon other threads on transfers, it sounds like admissions isn't the problem. It's the departments who determine how many credits Michigan will accept from the players previous school. Most transfers get admitted by UM. The issue then becomes how many credits will UM accept. Unless it's after their true freshman year or as a grad transfer, a lot of potential transfers decide not to come because of how many credits Michigan won't accept from their previous school.
