Michigan receives Wiltfong crystal ball for 2025 4* QB Carter Smith
Wilftong put in a crystal ball of confidence level 6 for Smith, who visited this past weekend. Wiltfong also noted that we are hoping to sign 2 QBs in 2025. It's almost important to note that Wiltfong's crystal balls are not a prediction, but more a "where the winds are blowing right now"
Smith is a 4* and #231 in the composite
Here is his Hudl highlights
Honestly, I'm not enamored by his highlights. He seems like a very good athlete, but his arm talent seems just ok. His mechanics and footwork seem all over the place and a lot of his completions in his highlights are just slants

Come on, Underwood!
November 12th, 2023 at 5:41 PM ^
Would love it, but not holding my breath. He'll geaux where he wants.
November 12th, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
Where his pocketbook wants.

I can’t reveal my source, but I’m hearing Underwood was so impressed by yesterday’s 37 consecutive minutes of hand offs that he’ll be committing by mid-week.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
Yeah. That is funny. We should just do what is needed to impress a 17 year old.
November 12th, 2023 at 8:02 PM ^
I mean... That's exactly what recruiting is
November 12th, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
Well he probably is impressed by JJ's development and the fact that he's in the thick of the Heisman conversation. Plus the offense this year has been very efficient in the pass game.
November 12th, 2023 at 8:56 PM ^
I don’t think this is where you were going with that, but I find it funny that all season long we have been saying something is wrong with our running game. On Saturday we faced the 2nd best rush defense in the country and pounded them the entire second half. I am sure now there is going to be concern that our passing game is shaky. What Saturday proved to me is we are even more balanced on offense this year than we have been the last two years. Add that with our defense and you may just be watching the National Champions come January. Go Blue!
November 12th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
We did enough to win in the second half, but I'm not sure I would agree that we pounded them -- 1 drive (13 plays, field goal) followed by 3 and out, 6 and out, and 3 and out, a 1 play TD and then closed out the game.
November 12th, 2023 at 10:34 PM ^
Penn State has the second ranked Rush defense and is giving up an average of 77 rushing yards per game. Michigan ran for 227 when everyone in the stadium knew they were going to run. Pounded.
November 12th, 2023 at 10:37 PM ^
You can't get through to everybody.
November 15th, 2023 at 12:08 PM ^
Agreed that it was the right strategy and that it worked. Penn State's defense held Michigan's offense to 3 short possessions out of 5 second half possessions, excluding the final possession of the game. We can agree to disagree about whether the appropriate term for that is "pounded". Or can we?
November 12th, 2023 at 11:23 PM ^
What Saturday proved to me is that P. State knew exactly what we were going to do, after we ran it the first 10 times in a row. Despite having the # 2 defense in the nation, they still couldn't stop it, the next 22 times we ran it.
The truth is everybody steals signs and the competitive advantage of knowing a teams signs is over-rated if you can't stop it. If knowing a teams signs was that important, any coach making over a million dollars a year would be derelict in his duty not to change them or protect them. This whole sign stealing mess is way over-blown because OSU, Rutgers, P. State and the other complainers, did changed their signs and they still got their asses beat by a better team. They knew our signs and shared them with each other or knew what we were going to do (like P. State) but still couldn't stop us.
What's more egregious to the notion of sportsmanship is colluding with and receiving help from other teams to win. 3 or 4 against 1 has never been fair. Point proven because it speaks for itself Mr. Commissioner, now do something about a real problem.
November 13th, 2023 at 9:02 AM ^
The collusion is far worse. Any team could afford the CS approach. Hell, apparently his whole scheme cost less than OSU pays each recruit to visit.
But the collusion is conducted by professional staff, and the teams can choose to whom the give the advantage and against whom they use it. The fact that the B1G is turning a blind eye to actual collusion is mind-boggling, especially considering the lip service they have paid to the “fairness and integrity of the game.”
November 13th, 2023 at 9:17 AM ^
That part.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:20 PM ^
I guess Underwood wants to dance the funky chicken with the authentic ragin’ Cajun himself, Brian Kelly.
November 12th, 2023 at 5:32 PM ^
If we can't land Underwood then I want to see Michigan recruit more explosive runners at QB. Go find another Denard and put him in this offense as a third RB. A lot of high level southern recruits that Michigan normally would have no business signing, will give Michigan a real shake with the opportunity to play QB.
November 12th, 2023 at 5:37 PM ^
Did we find Dave Brandon's account?
November 13th, 2023 at 8:49 AM ^
That would be a good spot for the Santa Ono statue...
November 12th, 2023 at 5:43 PM ^
If we can't get Underwood, I'm hoping we can get Husan Longstreet. Kid reminds me of Jadyn Davis, but he's a much better athlete/runner and his balls seem to have a bit more zip on them
November 12th, 2023 at 5:50 PM ^
If Harbaugh retires at Michigan, we need a JJ/ Aaron Rodgers type QB for his system. Someone who is 1st great at reading defenses with great accuracy and 2nd the ability to create passing lanes with their legs or run for yards in that order. I'd also hope that we look for 1 bigger downhill back and 1 slot type allusive back to compliment that QB.
November 12th, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
Sounds like this year’s recruiting class.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:01 PM ^
Everyone needs a QB who can do all of those things. Very few find one.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:54 PM ^
Gardner believes Jadyn Davis has those qualities just needs fine tuning, he was right about JJ so we might already be on that path.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:22 PM ^
I’d rather take a JJ/Tom Brady type that is 1st great at reading defenses with great accuracy and 2nd has the IT a factor and can just will his team to win.
November 13th, 2023 at 1:58 AM ^
Not to mention the type of QB that puts team success ahead of piling up personal stats. If Harbaugh stays, we will stay run-heavy, and there will be more games like this.
That said, JJ has been slinging it this year and should be a top-10 pick in the draft. A QB who is okay with developing within the system will find success.
November 12th, 2023 at 8:41 PM ^
Maybe we can get Dan Villari as a transfer. Ran for over 150 yards and completed 60% of his passes against Pitt on Saturday.
November 12th, 2023 at 5:37 PM ^
LSU gonna have the money cannon and very possibly a Heisman QB.
He gone.
November 12th, 2023 at 5:42 PM ^
They are also 7-3
November 12th, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
Yea they are but, Daniels had like 500+ yards on his own. Is Underwood looking for only $$ and stats? Then he going to LSU. If he wants to learn how to be a NFL QB and win then he will goto Michigan
November 12th, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
I follow ASU pretty closely outside of Michigan, and Daniels transformation into a competent QB under Purple Face has been remarkable.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:17 PM ^
Huh? Daniels was good at ASU. He was good his freshman and sophomore year, had a down junior year after ASU was a dumpster fire and he had multiple family members die of Covid, then he transferred to LSU and went right back to being good. Anyone acting like LSU developed Daniels into what he is is delusional. He was good, then made another jump when he got better weapons
November 12th, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
His own teammates wanted him out at ASU. They trashed his locker after he left.
November 12th, 2023 at 11:14 PM ^
He was not good at ASU. He developed at LSU from an afterthought to a Heisman Trophy candidate.
November 13th, 2023 at 9:16 AM ^
I mean you can check his stats at ASU. Like I said, he had a down year his junior year due factors outside his control, but he always always good and just got better
November 14th, 2023 at 10:50 AM ^
Stats aren't everything, but eye test and the fact that ASU players were happy to see him gone says it all about his play on the field. He wasn't good at LSU and transformed into an elite player this season. He has never played at a high level at all until this season.
November 12th, 2023 at 7:58 PM ^
At that age and at that high level every QB recruit thinks EVERY coach can get them in the NFL.
Daniels is a star at LSU, and deserving or not Brian Kelly is going to get a lot of credit for that.
November 12th, 2023 at 10:04 PM ^
Because the NFL is currently loaded with Michigan QBs?
November 12th, 2023 at 10:37 PM ^
Is the NFL loaded with Brian Kelley developed quarterbacks?
November 12th, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
Sadly I don't think it's gonna matter. The elite QBs continue to march on out of the state of Michigan.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
One elite QB who walked out is having a tough time. We will see if he will become elite and I hope he will except when he plays us. But, I am fine with whoever Harbaugh can bring. Hard to find kid like JJ who will whatever it takes to be part of a team and worry about team.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
And other elite ones seem to come into the state of Michigan. It’s fine.
November 12th, 2023 at 6:07 PM ^
Exactly. When you wish for offensive firepower you get everything including losses. Most teams wouldve turnover'd themselves out of that game vs PSU on Saturday.
November 12th, 2023 at 7:19 PM ^
That never stopped Jimbo from pulling tons of 5 stars at TAMU.
When high school kids and their families see huge dollar signs it’s hard to see anything else.
November 12th, 2023 at 8:20 PM ^
Even five stars don't make the NFL. If you're looking at a couple hundred grand now why not take it. It's not like LSU and other schools haven't put QBs into the NFL. Michigan's track record the last 15 years or so hasn't been great. Harbaugh had Luck, but has he put anyone in since? He'll have JJ at the end of this year which will right the ship so to speak.
November 12th, 2023 at 10:40 PM ^
While he didn't have a great NFL career, Harbaugh put Rudock into the NFL and that kids development over a year with Harbaugh was very impressive. Had a couple misses since then but I think you can see that when Harbaugh gets a kid that wants to be great, he can help get him there.
November 12th, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
We're a CFP contender and have a QB who might go top 10. Getting drafted highly as a QB is where the real money is
November 12th, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
I’ve seen a couple of mocks having JJ going to the Pats. That would be so awesome.
November 12th, 2023 at 7:52 PM ^
I would hate if he goes to Pats. Prefer to Minnesota or Atlanta or Giants, or Raiders....
