Paying a fine would be a terrible idea at this point, as it is an admission of guilt with a potential (not likely, but possible) NCAA investigation looming.  Besides, it's been established that other teams have done advanced scouting, if they're not fined, then it remains unequal application of a rule that's already questionable.

That being said, it seems to be a face-saving gesture as Petite is now looking down the barrel of a gun pointed straight at him.

Just sit their invoice in a pile and make them ship it to a collection's agency.

Let it accrue interest for years.

Never take responsibility for the debt.

Leave the B1G for the SEC after years of interest accrues.

Then it counts against them on their balance sheet when the B1G files chapter 11.

Maybe, idk 🤷‍♂️

Reprimand who?  Stallions?

They should fine Michigan for having a rogue staffer and they should fine every coach that was involved which will only be Stallions.

Then they should announce their punishment including that no other coaches were found to be involved.

Then they need to fine every other school that received or sent advanced scouting information for stealing signs and the should fine every coach as well that knew or was involved.  Then they should announce those penalties and coaches names.

Let’s have equal treatment of any school in the B1G.

Perfect. Pay the fine and lets move past this shit…after UM drops the details from its dossier on OSU. Would love to move the spotlight to where it belongs.

Pay up, but on the condition that they open an investigation on the collaboration between other B1G schools to steal our signals AND broaden their ‘investigation’ of michigan to include where their evidence comes from, i.e. is another big ten school pulling dirty tricks and playing the media to gain a so-called competitive advantage in a most un-sportsmanlike way.  Otherwise, we’ll see you in court.  No rolling over for a ‘big fine’, as it still violates their own bylaws and I don’t have any taste for helping them save face without them treating certain teams in the league to a taste of their own medicine.

We should fight that too. Fuck em. Release the binder too for good measure. A show of force will prevent this from happening again. I would only accept a fine if every other school also got fined and then they used that money to put radios in helmets.

I agree.  Those who are gleeful with this fine are being shortsighted.  This isn't the bottom of the ninth inning.  If this debacle has taught us anything, it's that we may still be in the early innings.  Michigan shouldn't show weakness now when momentum is on our side.  We need to set a precedent that this type of bullshit will not be tolerated and met with overpowering force (note that they clearly and problematically assumed the opposite about Michigan up until this turn of events).  There is a ton of damage that has been done to the brand.  Casual non-football fans think that it's a closed case that Michigan cheated.  I think we need to sustain this counterattack.

You may be correct, given the stance taken in the response letter. However, they may be willing to pay a nominal fine if the Conference drops the matter, as it pertains to Michigan, regardless of the NCAA's ultimate finding.

They may look upon that as a reasonable settlement to put the matter behind us and the Big Ten. It would have to include no admission of NCAA rules violation, as any such settlement would not include the NCAA.

I would hope that any such settlement would stipulate that the Conference agrees to investigate the alleged collusion by other members with regard to decoding our signs and subsequent information transfer to others.

I don't think that is going nuclear.  The BIG should only be able to do this if they have the authority to do it, and I don't think they do right now.  Again, the BIG has no evidence.  Until and unless the BIG can show anything that would justify punishment I still think you seek to enjoin a fine.

If the BIG had collected any evidence I would agree, but you cannot fine somebody on a whim.  As of right now, there is no evidence that Michigan committed any violation of any rule.  Hard to accept a fine for what, heretofore, is literally nothing.  It is a close call.  I cannot believe the BIG did this without obtaining evidence.  Truly unbelievable.
