At the beginning of this process and cheeseburger gate, I would get so annoyed because Michigan could not make any response with an ongoing investigation by the NCAA. Did the B1G with their arrogant approach in trying to handout a punishment with Michigan allow Michigan to give their response that would have been otherwise held back if they would not have stepped in? This whole thing was not supposed to go this way according to the call the 13 teams had with the B1G after Michigan got off the call. I find this hilarious that it is backfiring in a very bad way for them.

And still not a peep from Thamel. Huh...
November 8th, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
Probably wiping his text and correspondence history.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
Pete Thamel next week: I've always been in favor of due process and gathering all the facts first
November 8th, 2023 at 5:34 PM ^
Pete Thamel next week. Anybody hiring?
November 8th, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
Probably trying to hide his Thameltoe
November 8th, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
He’s just been waiting out Ryan Day’s refractory period before his next column.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:19 PM ^
so 48 hours or so?
November 8th, 2023 at 5:22 PM ^
It’s been a while since I logged in, but I logged in for this. Bravo!
November 8th, 2023 at 5:27 PM ^
Or he's in his own refractory period, having shot out his column.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:57 PM ^
Is that worse than his regular period?
November 8th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
And I honestly don't mean to belabor this point (although it is kind of fun), but rather the absence of anything from him really does seem like quite the statement (of what, who knows, but something clearly happened here to make him go radio silent all of a sudden).
November 8th, 2023 at 5:18 PM ^
The conversation with ESPN brass probably went something like this, "Pete, we'd like you to meet our HR Partner and our Legal Partner. They're here to explain a few things about the position we're in thanks to your lack of journalistic integrity and how that may impact your continued employment with ESPN..."
November 8th, 2023 at 5:20 PM ^
Hopefully, it was a shorter conversation, along the lines of "first off, here is this white box for putting your personal items in...."
November 8th, 2023 at 5:22 PM ^
I don't think his sources have anything more to offer/leak so he has nothing to report. The school that hired this investigative firm had a plan to press for punishment and damage Michigan's reputation with leaks to Thamel, and I don't think they have any more moves left to play. Petitti and Big Ten leadership are probably not talking anymore given the potential for a lawsuit. Thamel doesn't have anything else to report.

Ewwwww.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
I'm sorry for the non-functional link, first post here.
That aside, the next few days should be very interesting. Things seem to be ticking in the right direction this week.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
Still a lot that can happen.
But it seems that Michigan’s multi-front counterattack is having an effect.
Jay Feely has gotten outspoken at times in his post-football career but I still find it notable that he just openly tweeted about OSU players that he played with in the NFL speaking openly of getting paid in college. You don’t generally hear that stuff, but the overreaction from the B1G has opened boxes that they won’t want opened.
November 8th, 2023 at 6:11 PM ^
And everybody thought all their 5 star classes were because of their superior recruiting.
November 8th, 2023 at 7:14 PM ^
Somebody mentioned in an earlier thread OSU paid high school recruits to NOT visit Michigan. Does that story have any legs?
November 8th, 2023 at 5:04 PM ^
It can't be a response. Unless the Big sent us the punishment. On the down-low? It is preemptive, no?
November 8th, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
Monday the league sent a notice of potential to administer a punishment and required a response by today.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
Will Michigan's response go public?
November 8th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
depends what the PR firm and the lawyers say
November 8th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
With the way everything has happened in this case, yes I would think so
November 8th, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
I'm guessing it'll come out and will say what Santa basically said last week, except maybe a bit more about "treat us equivalent to the other schools" now that this is a much wider story.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:18 PM ^
I believe Michigan's response would be available under FOIA but that could take a while to get.
I'm not sure why the University wouldn't go public with it.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
I think they still prefer peace. Michigan handled this with grace and wisdom but also showed what their capable of. Perfectly executed.
November 8th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
but politely
November 8th, 2023 at 5:15 PM ^
oh, you mean like this
November 8th, 2023 at 6:06 PM ^
Nah, more like this...
November 8th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
Does he have to get day’s permission to acknowledge it?

BISB wins the internet today.

I love this. The U.S. commander basically telling the Germans to fuck off as Bastogne was surrounded. The good guys won then, too.

Excellent reference. I have read more books on that battle than any other as I try to track down the roles of three uncles that were there on the north shoulder, south shoulder, and middle tip but not at Bastogne. And fortunately, they were all at a wedding 8 years later.
I am amazed at how much information is being pulled 50 years later from personal diaries and forgotten records so that heroic stories can be recovered for history. Alamo in the Ardennes is gut-wrenching while The Longest Winter is remarkable.
