Harbaugh Is a Cord Cutter
Lost in the shuffle of Ryan Day making an ass of himself was some great content from the one and only Jim Harbaugh:
“I was watching. My wife got this YouTube TV. It’s like half the price of DirecTV. No offense DirecTV,” Harbaugh said. “We’re over there on YouTube TV now. There must be 150 games to watch. So I’m in hog heaven on Saturday night watching those games. Watched a lot of them.”
Harbaugh proceeded to marvel at YouTube TV’s unlimited recording features and the ability to restart games that have already started.
“Then you go back and watch them again,” he said. “If you didn’t watch the one, it’s like taped for you right there. So yeah, I was — I don’t know if I learned anything. Just bouncing around, watching a lot of football.”
There you have it. No more cord cutting threads. Everyone must get YTTV now.

I’m sold
September 26th, 2023 at 1:27 PM ^
Why isn't he spending time with the recruits then?
September 26th, 2023 at 1:37 PM ^
September 26th, 2023 at 2:39 PM ^
Michigan self imposed restrictions on recruiting on campus this month.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:44 PM ^
yeah if he keeps this up we might keep beating OSU and going to the playoffs every year...
September 26th, 2023 at 3:30 PM ^
This is was your first thought after reading this post? I am all about Harbaugh getting out on the recruiting trail but this is a weird thought from this post.
September 26th, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
They have a life too you know. Not just recruiting and coaching. Damn.
September 26th, 2023 at 5:01 PM ^
How do you know he didn’t fire up the grill with 10 recruits at his house chowing down on a bunch of cheeseburgers?
September 26th, 2023 at 1:28 PM ^
I use YTTV, and he’s right on all accounts.
September 26th, 2023 at 3:09 PM ^
Wait until he finds out they don't have MLB network.
September 26th, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
I have a 50% code I can let him have. He doesn't make as much money as Coach Tugger so I don't mind.
September 26th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Except one, at least from what I can tell. I have been trying YTTV for a couple of weeks and also have DirecTV which I was thinking of ditching I got a good deal recently with DirecTV so the cost differential is minimal. All our TV's are OLED 4K TV's. While I like the features on YTTV, I think the picture quality is below DirecTV's. I believe most of what you see on YTTV is 720P and I believe there is more compression than what I get on DirecTV which also has some good 4K programming.
September 27th, 2023 at 7:02 AM ^
Same! I've had it since year 1 and it keeps getting better.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:28 PM ^
Surprised he didn't mention the steep price hikes over the last few years
September 26th, 2023 at 1:30 PM ^
I think Harbaugh's contract pays him enough for YTTV.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:32 PM ^
Apparently, not enough for DirectTV.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:33 PM ^
Hey, you can be rich and still like a good deal.
September 26th, 2023 at 2:09 PM ^
I mean he gets his hair cut at Great Clips and cuts his own grass.
September 26th, 2023 at 2:21 PM ^
Meanwhile, I cut my own hair and take a plant to Great Clips for a trim.
September 26th, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
Can concur. I had DTV for 20-some years and got priced out...
September 26th, 2023 at 7:57 PM ^
If I had to guess…they went with YTTV to get the NFL Sunday Ticket discount
September 26th, 2023 at 1:50 PM ^
Well.....if he just got it he hasnt had any steep price hikes now has he?
FWIW he's right on all counts (YTTV is awesome) and so are you - price has almost doubled from when I first got it.
September 26th, 2023 at 2:10 PM ^
If YTTV hadn't gone the full cable route and added every channel imaginable, the cost would definitely be lower. I certainly liked it better at intro when it was $40/mo and had Bally Sports. But I get it, people complain when they can't watch their niche show on AMC or Cheddar or BBC Six. It's easier to just add the channels and bump up the price.
I'd pine for a la carte but since the sports channels are the most expensive imaginable, I'll suck it up instead and give thanks for anyone who subscribes solely for the cheap stuff.

I am in the identical boat that JH is. We have DirecTV but are sick of paying $160 per month. We are currently evaluating DirecTV stream, Hulu + Live and YTTV.
Anyone have preferences?
September 27th, 2023 at 9:11 AM ^
I've used fubo for a few years now. Lots of sports and it has the channels my wife wants to watch.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:30 PM ^
I watched football for the first time on You Tube TV this weekend. It was pretty awesome. From what I understand though it really isn't much cheaper than cable at this point.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:41 PM ^
Accurate. However, very easy to turn on and off. We subscribe during July (Tour de France) and football season. Shut it down the rest of the year.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:44 PM ^
Yep, activated mine the day before the first game on real TV and will cancel mine after the national championship game we win. 8 months with zero cost. Worth it over cable right there.
September 26th, 2023 at 2:10 PM ^
Interesting re TDF - does YTTV access Peacock/NBC Sports or is the TDF shown on YTTV via some other method?
September 26th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
NBC Sports is not a channel that exists anywhere anymore. NBC just shows stuff on USA and NBC and whatever else they own.
Peacock is not part of YTTV.
I can't speak to where one finds the TDF.
September 26th, 2023 at 4:33 PM ^
A few stages of this year’s TDF were shown on USA Network or NBC which I watched via YTTV. However, most were on Peacock which is not accessible via YTTV as stated above. May be possible to watch all stages on Peacock and circumvent YTTV altogether.
September 26th, 2023 at 6:08 PM ^
Yep, IIRC, all stages were shown on Peacock. Only a few in the first week were on USA / NBC as well.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:32 PM ^
Switched to YTTV this summer. Love the 4 game multiview! Two complaints, the picture quality is suboptimal compared with Xfinity or HULU live. Also, you can't pick the 4 games in the multiview. You have to go with one of the 4-game options they offer. The ability to pick the multiview is a minor issue, but the 720p picture quality is bothersome.
September 26th, 2023 at 5:13 PM ^
I've found this as well on picture quality, which as kind of a geek perfectionist on that score bothered me. Also, and it's weird to say this, but I find xfinity more reliable, less drop outs and lags. Watching Thursday night football last year on Prime was concerning. I switched back to xfinity tv and internet, and stream though an Apple TV 4K
September 26th, 2023 at 1:32 PM ^
But is he TOUGH ™ ?

I've had Youtubetv for 4 years now. Best option I have found. Recording all available college & NFL football games, Nascar, NHRA, PGA etc, etc, etc. Get the app on your phone and you can watch in your car as you travel. (not recommended if you're the one driving though). You can literally record every show they have on every channel (150 of them) and watch them for up to 9 months before they are deleted.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:46 PM ^
you can watch in your car as you travel. (not recommended if you're the one driving though).
You can still listen to it, though. But yeah, keep your eyes on the road.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:40 PM ^
the better half is in charge of the tv programming..... there's hulu, paramount+ disney, netflix, Prime, etc.... and high speed internet is required for all of them....
I'm 99% sure it would be cheaper to bundle traditional cable with the internet provider.... but like I said, she's in charge of that stuff.....
September 26th, 2023 at 2:14 PM ^
We have a similar number of streaming subscriptions, and it's still cheaper than cable was by over $100 per month. We switch most of them on and off depending on the season and what we're watching. The only ones that stay on all the time are Prime (shipping) and Netflix (not sure why because it sucks now).
If your wife is inclined to save money (Mrs. Hatter is not), Amazon often has deals on various channels, $1.99 per month for 2 months, 1/2 off, etc, so I look for those. They're usually long enough to binge whatever show you're looking for and then cancel it before the price goes up.
I really, really, miss having the DVR during football season, but not enough to do anything about it yet I guess.
Thanks for listening to my Ted talk.
September 26th, 2023 at 3:00 PM ^
I concur with this. We just ditched Xfinity for YTTV and a few streaming services and we're saving $100+ a month. Xfinity was out of control.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:43 PM ^
"Cord cutting" is kind of a meaningless term at this point for sports fans. If you want to watch live sports, you have to pay through the nose.
I concur with Coach that YTTV is the shit from a UX standpoint. Losing regional sports is a pretty significant drawback, but given the state of the Tigers/Wings/Pistons, not a big loss at the moment.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:49 PM ^
Umm.....hey Warde.....please get this man his new contract. He's obviously suffering. Whats it gonna take? Dial up internet?
September 26th, 2023 at 1:56 PM ^
We ditched Xfinity last year, switched to YTTV and we're all the better for it. I love the side-by-side action every Saturday, but truthfully, we could still live without it for half the year and probably never notice. Most of what we watch is on streaming anyway.
We decided we're ditching YTTV after every football season is over and we'll pick it back up once the season starts. I'm content with missing out on March Madness at the house and that'll be $85/month we get back for half the year.
September 26th, 2023 at 2:01 PM ^
It's $73/mo, no?
September 26th, 2023 at 3:41 PM ^
Ah you're right. For some reason I was thinking it was $85, but maybe that's if you decide to upgrade to 4k capability.
September 26th, 2023 at 1:58 PM ^
I've been a seasonal (FB season) YTTV customer. I agree with its awesomeness. I also agree with Harbaugh's awesomeness.
September 26th, 2023 at 2:05 PM ^
The unlimited recording feature is really amazing.
September 26th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
To be clear, I just thought Harbaugh was hilarious. I don't have a particular interest in YTTV and cable.
September 26th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
Harbaugh is not just a maniac football fan, but a big sports fan in general (e.g., we know he loves baseball -- he brings his glove to games! -- and I believe one of his kids plays youth hockey; he certainly did), so it would be interesting to follow-up and see if he realizes he now can't watch the Tigers and Red Wings (and Pistons, though not sure he cares about that).
YTTV is the best price / availability of games for football, though. He's right about that.
