Crystal balls coming in for 2024 3* CBs Jeremiah Lowe and Jo'Ziah Edmond
Edmond is a recent Purdue decommit and both players are in that low 3* ("sleeper" if you will) category

I'm at the point with this staff where so long as they fill the position holes, I'm confident.

Well, they did have some troubles on the field in the past when they missed on recruiting targets. Drevno OL recruiting bit them in 2017. When they couldn't get DTs, they struggled in the 2019 and 2020 season at that position. Then, they struggled stopping the pass in 2020 when they missed on some cornerbacks. Ideally, they wouldn't have a hole at that position. Hopefully, they are taking the steps to fix their recruiting there and WR.
I should have emphasized the word "this" in my post more. Previous staffs, maybe not so much.
Yeah, they have done well but they do have a number of higher rated guys on both sides of the ball right now as Brian and Seth have said on their podcasts. Will Johnson, Edwards, Corum, and McCarthy.
This staff evaluates talent very well and knows how to develop that talent.
Blah Blah Blah
How about recruiting top talent or is that to much of a challenge?
I knew you’d be all over this thread the minute I saw it.
More like Michigan Real-ass, amirite?
Whine, whine, whine….. Off to 11 Warriors with you!😆😆😆
You mean like Will Johnson?
The "they" you referred to are not around anymore.
Drevno OL recruiting bit them in 2017
Not here anymore. Seems like Moore is much better than Drevno at this juncture.
When they couldn't get DTs,
Brown isn't here anymore. Neither is Nua (who did bring in some decent guys, just too many years apart). Elston is widely considered a very good recruiter and talent developer.
they struggled stopping the pass in 2020 when they missed on some cornerbacks.
Zordich is gone. And more importantly so is Shoop. I'm still a little worried about this group though.
Hopefully, they are taking the steps to fix their recruiting there and WR.
Recruiting hasn't been great, development has been ok, but more importantly the offensive scheme is the biggest blocker here. Would it surprise someone if a 5-star QB went to a program that ran the triple option? Yes. So it doesn't surprise me that top flight WRs aren't banging down the door.
Then, they struggled stopping the pass in 2020
They did, due in large part to their best CB sitting out that now-abundantly-clear pointless season.
In terms of CBs, I'm not sure how much I subscribe to this thought process. We have a 5* on one side who took over the starting job as a freshman and on the other side we don't seem to have anyone the staff is confident in so we brought in a grad transfer. CB is maybe the only position outside QB right now that has little to no depth
They do seem to develop cbs quite well with Turner and Sainristil. I feel like recruiting better would give them more bullets in the chamber. Sometimes a guy just lacks the speed and height to be the type of guy that could win you a national championship. Hopefully, they have someone at the 2nd corner spot and I have trust in Clinkscale but they obviously haven't recruited the position as well as they could have recently.
I would suggest Gemon Green developed pretty nicely. I think they got the most out of him.
Add in the development of our safety play with Moore and Paige and specifically their coverage skills and I’m not worried about our DBs.
I am curious to see if 4* Jyaire Hill starts seeing the field this. He seems like he has a dog mentality.
I read we just offered an MSU CB commit. 3* Syair Torrence.
Syair and Jyaire? Don’t dare in this air.
I remember this narrative being discussed prior to each of the last two seasons.
Exactly. We recruited a 5* cb from jn state. He was our best cb as a true freshman and now to fill the spot opposite of him we switched a wide receiver to cb, swung twice and hit once in the transfer portal.
in the future: we have another 5* in 2025 Chris Ewald Jr. Who we need to retain, Jyaire hill a low 4* type guy who according to his yellow post has some serious work and development to do and the a lot of unproven guys.
at our level and with our goals of beating osu and being in Natty contention, I’d say at minimum we need 1 top 100ish corner a year and a second not far behind.
I also trust our staff across the board but corner is maybe the position which is most dependent on athleticism. If a 3 star doesn't have the athletic traits, there's only so much the staff can do.
Edmond is 6'1" and isn't rated that low tbh - he looks like he would be a really solid get
His highlights show him taking a lot of snaps from the wildcat position as well as WR.
He is an athlete and plays physical football.

Alright fellas, let's see what you got!
Michigan just turned a 3⭐ CB into a 2nd round pick in April. Looking forward to seeing how these guys end up.
That's amazing. Imagine developing a 5* guy into a 1st round pick. Maybe we beat TCU and UGA.
Or the offense is 100% healthy and play to their potential.
I'm pretty sure your comment was tongue-in-cheek but I'm not sure if Charles Woodson and Ty Law would have changed the outcomes......well, maybe so if they were the ones with the pick 6s, and scoring on special teams.

If you turn your volume all the way up on this post you can faintly hear Ari Wasserman screaming that this proves we'll never win a nation championship
I'll keep it muted, thanks
By the way,"what is a nation championship?"
If you have to ask, then you can't afford it.

If Clink and the Michigan coaching staff believe these kids are underrated by the recruiting services and have the potential to be developed into great corners, then I believe them
For the sake of being pedantic, a low rated player who is a 'take' doesn't necessarily mean the staff think he's underrated. It may just be the best player they think they can get.
Not these guys specifically, maybe they are DJ Turner but maybe they are Keith Washington in the 2015 class.
Although that 2015 CB class was followed up by David Long and Lavert Hill in 2016, so......
Didn't Keith run sprints in the parking lot though? Or some odd recruiting hype story ...
I remember him and Brandon Watson looking really good in a couple of spring games.
Or Nolan Ulizio at the OL position.
Your overall point is correct. But I would bet the staff thinks that, for instance, Jeremiah Lowe is better than the 1,085th-best player in the 2024 class. While Michigan missed on a couple top 100 guys at CB, I think they can still get guys they very much believe are better than the typical croot at Purdue or a similar school

Well, recruiting’s a crapshoot anyways. Depth at the very least.

I don't understand DB recruiting this year .I think Michigan gets 4 or 5 really good ones next year, but this year has been a really busy.
2 of their top targets unfortunately live in Ohio.

Probably the staff let them know they are takes now
"and both players are in that low 3* ("sleeper" if you will) category"
Umm... Lowe is an 87 and Edmond an 88 on the 247 Composite.
That is a HIGH 3 star.
3 star runs from 80-89.
...and you know how many low 3* DB's (below 85) have been signed by Harbaugh at Michigan? Zero.
Mid/high 3* DB's signed by Harbaugh:
Josh Metellus
Brad Hawkins
J'Marick Woods
Gemon Green
Myles Sims
Vincent Gray
Sammy Faustin
German Green (the only DB as low as 85)
DJ Turner
Quinten Johnson
Mike Sainristil
Eammon Dennis
Jaden McBurrows
Damani Dent
I guess we have different definitions of what a "low 3 star" is. Neither of these guys are in the top 700 in the composite. That's approaching the range of guys who don't have P5 offers. With that being said, both of these guys seem underrated based on their offers
He is correct. They are high 3 *'s. If they are in the top 1000 they are pretty much mid to high 3*.
3* are guys with ratings between 80 and 89.99
I'd say
80-83: low 3*
83-87: mid 3*
88-89.99: high 3*
If Walters from Purdue liked Edmund, then I think this is a good pickup.
I'm not too concerned about the corners. Assuming we get one or two Dudes next cycle and fill in the gaps with a transfer along with coaching up these three stars, we'll be fine.
3*s? Not sure how I'm going to enjoy the 15 wins this year now.
Sign up for the Herbert mutant making machine in Ann Arbor. With our player development and culture, as long as we’ve got a stud QB I’m not too concerned with star rankings at any other position. However, if we’re ever going to beat UGA/Bama in the playoff then we’ve got to have a great QB (like Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson were for Clemson).
For the next two years we have one side of the field locked down with Will Johnson. As of now, there are two guys who have been in the program but haven't seen the field much at all at CB, but both possess pretty decent ceilings. If we can get Gemon Green level production from them by the end of the year (or from Josh Wallace) we will be just fine.
Next year we will still have Will and hopefully one of Walker or McBurrows showed by the end of this year that they can be the guy. We also will have Jyaire Hill who I think is going to be hard to not have on the field as a starter in 2024.
Is what it is, we just need some bodies at this point. This doesn't feel quite like it fits into the narrative of the staff uncovering unheralded 3 stars and developing them into elite players, given that these are the targets after we've already struck out on our 4 and 5 star targets, but can't do anything but wait and see how it plays out.
as a dc who will face edmond this year when they put him all over the field, I will likely not sleep that week. He also benefits from having a 4 star WR going to Georgia on the field as well.
I've watched Northwood play a couple times in the last 6-7 years (both in regionals of the state tournament). If the coaching staff is still the same, they seem to scheme well to the strength of that year's team. They've been a solid team for many years now it seems. Good luck when you play them!
Both of these guys seem highly underrated. Lowe played w/ Clinkscale's son in Kentucky and was clocked in the 4.4s last spring. FWIW, the local Kentucky folks are really high on him and UK offered him early in the cycle. Edmond seems underrated b/c he plays for a small HS in Indiana that has ~200 kids a class. Edmond was MVP of the National Combine in San Antonio earlier this year which had multiple higher rated recruits. Interestingly, he was MVP at the combine as a WR even though he was a stud at DB as well. Probably bodes well in terms of INT potential, especially since he's a plus athlete. Notre Dame was expected to offer soon and he recently picked up an offer from Ole Miss and Baylor after those two schools saw him in-person. While Ole Miss and Baylor don't scream DB U, I think the fact they were willing to offer a kid from Indiana from a tiny school after seeing him in-person probably speaks to Edmond's athletic ability at a minimum.
