One thing I have seen more teams do is let loose the pass rush with the design to force the QB to step up into the pocket at which point a "spy" fires on a blitz.
It is less of a traditional spy, waiting for the QB to run and instead dictating to the offense that if you want to escape, you have to do so into the pocket thus leaving less scrambling space to outrun slower LBs on the edge and less time to search downfield for a big scramble drill TD.
as a dc who will face edmond this year when they put him all over the field, I will likely not sleep that week. He also benefits from having a 4 star WR going to Georgia on the field as well.
As a coach, if your biggest game is the last one then every week there is something that the team you will be facing does that is similar to OSU. It is emphasized and focused on without taking away from that weeks gameplan.
Sometimes its the Jimmys and Joes, not the X’s and O’s. But in this case it was both.
Make it like European soccer. Pair a P5 conference with a G5 geographic equivalent. Bottom two of P5 conference and Top 2 of G5 conference switch. Provides for some fresh changes and incentive to not suck. Conference would hate it. As would schools. Don't suck.
I think the possibility of an ND loss without Book is actually more detrimental to the case for UM leapfrogging them. Committee would look at the loss more favorably without their "starting" qb than if they got beat outright.
