He wants to be in S.F.
January 25th, 2023 at 7:43 PM ^
He may want San Francisco, but he's going to have to settle for Las Vegas or retirement.
January 26th, 2023 at 5:42 AM ^
Vegas is still in play?
January 26th, 2023 at 8:36 AM ^
Underrated comment.
When Santa tweeted this, my already high esteem for him doubled.
January 25th, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
He may want SF but I don’t think SF wants him. Especially if Brock Purdy leads them to a Super Bowl, that leaves them with a window of another few years of having a starting Super Bowl winning QB that they only have to pay pennies to.
I’m more curious what the 49ers will get if they opt to trade Trey Lance away. If they win a Super Bowl, the writing will be in the wall for him if it’s not already. They may be able to trade him away to a team desperate for a QB and pick up a few draft picks in the process.
January 25th, 2023 at 9:22 PM ^
To be coached by his college teammate?
January 26th, 2023 at 12:33 AM ^
Purdy is 8-0 as a starter. So... no.
If Brady is insistent upon continuing his career until he's physically unable, then realistically his options outside of Tampa Bay are limited.
January 25th, 2023 at 9:27 PM ^
For an instant when I first noticed the Message Board heading, I thought it was about someone suggesting TB to Michigan. (As quarterbacks coach, of course.)
January 25th, 2023 at 10:44 PM ^
I'm gonna float the idea of Brady to the Arena League.
January 26th, 2023 at 10:02 AM ^
Brady to the local golf course. Embrace the good life!
January 25th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
Terrible idea. Goff is better than Brady right now. Makes no sense
January 25th, 2023 at 6:15 PM ^
Maybe the OP left out the part where it would be as some sort of passing game assistant? Otherwise… hard pass.
January 25th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
Sorry - it was Chris Simms who first floated the idea on a podcast with Florio, and now Florio is running with it:
"Beyond football, there’s a very real business element to wanting Brady. He’d sell every ticket to every game at Ford Field. The Lions also would end up with multiple prime-time games, along with multiple 4:25 p.m. ET contests. In recent years, those games draw even more viewers than games played at night."
January 25th, 2023 at 5:19 PM ^
I know you're just the messenger but I'm not sure they need the help as Detroit had the biggest increase in attendance this season & sold over 98% of their tickets at home without Brady
January 25th, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
Yeah but do you have any idea how many Lions Brady jerseys they would sell? I can guarantee at least one.
January 25th, 2023 at 6:30 PM ^
Question: Would they be sold in Ohio?
January 26th, 2023 at 12:36 PM ^
Is the tide turning??
January 25th, 2023 at 11:11 PM ^
Would they be selling like hotcakes?
January 26th, 2023 at 1:45 AM ^
If you're gonna guarantee, you better be willing to back it up.
January 25th, 2023 at 10:16 PM ^
Chris Simms is a douche’.
January 26th, 2023 at 5:44 AM ^
Douche douche'.
January 26th, 2023 at 9:14 AM ^
With extra vinegar! Another in the long list of "thanks dad" losers.
January 25th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
The lion DO NOT NEED a QB. Shore up the defense and if you want to take a Brock Purdy like chance with a 7th rounder I'm not opposed.
January 25th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
Will do!
January 25th, 2023 at 5:00 PM ^
I'm for taking a Stetson Bennett as early as Round 4, but no QB before that point.
January 25th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
That is precisely the scenario I'm hoping for.
January 25th, 2023 at 5:20 PM ^
By the time Bennett gets a chance to start he'll be old enough to retire from the league
January 25th, 2023 at 6:23 PM ^
He's had 6 years to train at the college level and reach 185 lbs. Would not draft.
January 26th, 2023 at 8:38 AM ^
Isn't he already old enough? I hear his kid is a high three star in the 2025 class.
January 25th, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
I pray that the Lions do not draft Bennett at all. What a waste of a pick.
The general consensus on the blog, and my own view, is that OSU QBs should not be drafted because of the talent advantage their skill players have over college competition (i.e. easier to hit a wide open Marvin Harrison Jr. than make a tight window throw in the NFL or run through three progressions quickly).
Stetson Bennett is that on steroids. Below average arm talent, doesn't actually go through his reads well, and gets happy feet very quickly. He does have plus mobility, but his pocket awareness is average. His lack of height will also become a much bigger problem in the NFL because he wont have that massive 5 yard pocket to throw from and doesn't display the ability to throw accurately off platform unlike, for example, Bryce Young. He had an insane O-Line in both running and pass blocking, and Brock Bowers along with pretty decent crop of receivers. He also rode an incredible defense that cannot be replicated in the NFL because the talent margin is never that steep.
January 25th, 2023 at 7:34 PM ^
Haskins failed because of issues between his ears. He was very talented. The jury is still out on Fields.
January 25th, 2023 at 5:59 PM ^
Or like a Tom Brady?
January 25th, 2023 at 6:25 PM ^
Brady is 6'4" and 225 lbs which doesn't count the 5 lbs. his surgeon removed from his cheeks.
Stetson is a little person.
January 25th, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
Hey, I resemble that remark! Much more than Stetson Bennett does.
January 25th, 2023 at 6:26 PM ^
No chance SF parts with Purdy for a 7th rounder. Will get at least a 2nd, IF they trade him. And they won't.
I say the Jets. Can stick it to his old team. And the Jets actually are stacked.
January 26th, 2023 at 7:45 AM ^
Da hell?
Guy didn't say trade for Purdy, he was talking about spending a 7th round flyer on someone like Purdy. LOL!!
January 26th, 2023 at 12:02 AM ^
I'm not ready to tell myself that Goff is the long-term answer, and I think that the minute people start thinking about "Goff" in the same paragraph with "can the Lions go on a playoff run?" the sheen will start to crack.
But the Lions aren't built to be a Super Bowl contender next year. At least, I don't think they are, and I don't think they think they are, either, and getting a guy like Brady is a win-this-year-only type of move. A move that, potentially, skews the development of the rest of the team by forcing roster moves to contend right away. No thanks. Build the roster out, wait for the right QB situation.
I really like the idea of rolling with Goff for another year or two. Either he can be the guy with the rest of the team built around him, or you can look for the right guy in the draft (not at #5, but something like an end-of-the-first guy) that has potential to be a top-half starter on a rookie deal. Then you use your other resources to put the right roster in to win around him (or, you know, Goff).
This looks like a roster that can make and win a playoff game next year. Keep it together and see what happens.
January 26th, 2023 at 7:52 AM ^
This is the correct move. Goff has proven good enough that he can stick next year and let Holmes build out the defense. Even with a playoff game (win?), you can sniff the QB's available in the '24 draft - including JJ McCarthy. If the playoffs actually do happen next year for the Lions, the '24 draft would be about building depth across the team - headlined by a top QB choice. They're set up pretty good right now...
Of course, if by some strange reason a ludicrous amount of ridiculous luck befalls the Kitty's, taking Bryce Young at #6 would not be a bad move.
January 25th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
Goff seems like the answer for now.
January 25th, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
Maybe….the first half of the season was really rough. He was definitely better in the second half but still had his share of head scratchers. Good enough to lead this team deep into the playoffs even if our defense improves? Ehhh, I want to believe but I just don’t know.
January 25th, 2023 at 5:52 PM ^
Did you watch Brady play this year? Half the season was head scratchers and screaming at his teammates. No thanks.
January 25th, 2023 at 6:05 PM ^
I was responding to “Goff being the answer for now”, not arguing for Brady instead of Goff.
January 25th, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
Did you watch Brady this year? He had a defensive lineman in his face constantly. Tampa Bay's offensive line is horrible.
January 25th, 2023 at 11:10 PM ^
This. Nobody was going to look good at quarterback from Tampa this year, not even Tom Brady. Put him behind a good O-line, and he'll be good enough to lead a deep playoff run.
Not advocating to bring TB to Detroit, but if Goff is the guy for the Lions in the future, they may as well just blow it up now and save themselves a few years of grief. I've seen this movie before.
January 26th, 2023 at 7:56 AM ^
If by "for now" you mean next year, okay. But if you mean beyond that, I'll have to disagree. He played well enough that you can get away with him next year while you build the defense in April's draft. But after that you need to find a replacement that can be a viable, long term playoff winning QB.
And that is not Tom Brady, either. Even if he can still lead a team to the SB next year.
January 25th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
Goff seems like the answer for now.
January 25th, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
He should go to the Colts, just for the entertainment value alone. Can you imagine colts fans having to cheer on Brady after twenty years of hating him? Lolololol
January 25th, 2023 at 5:22 PM ^
Favre in a Vikings uniform?
January 26th, 2023 at 8:19 AM ^
Oh god no, but not for the reason you stated. I'm sick of seeing the Colts start a different 35+ year old washed up QB each year.
