Michigan #2 in AP poll
Same top 4, UGA, UM, TCU, USC. 5 first place votes
November 27th, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
Not that it really matters but I think there is a case to be made that we are #1
November 27th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
I prefer to play TCU and let Georgia deal with Caleb Williams (which I think they would). Plus, I don't want to give Lincoln Riley a month to plan against our defense. I think Riley is overrated, mainly because his teams play horrible defense, but the guy is either the greatest QB recruiter in history, or incredibly lucky.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:50 PM ^
As a college offensive coach, he is in no way whatsoever over-rated! His offenses are lightning and burn down any 'normal' defense in its path. As we saw last night.
However.
Against a playoff team, or some team with good personnel and a credible defense, it can be slowed and/or stopped because it requires big plays. Take those away, and he's in trouble.
November 27th, 2022 at 6:07 PM ^
Not discounting USC's offense and Williams but UM has a secondary capable of slowing down their receivers and quite frankly I think USC's suspect and somewhat undersized defense is a bigger mismatch for UM's offense to exploit. USC at times this year has been ranked 90+ in run defense. I see UM grinding them into dust in that matchup and possessing the ball to keep Williams off the field.

Honestly besides Williams ability to extend plays and running ability USC is a very similar team to OSU and honestly entering Saturday OSU had a better defense than them before UM shredded it. If UM's passing game can take what they did forward and at least continue to be dangerous UM should be confident against anyone really.

Agreed, clobbered 2 top 8 teams, one on the road. Will play 10 Big10 games, including the top 3 in the Big10 west.
I suspect we will only get number 1 if UGA loses, even though we earned it.
Odd that we trailed the Buckeyes all year after dominating them last year.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:38 PM ^
"Odd that we trailed the Buckeyes all year after dominating them last year."
How can you say this in an argument to put us ahead of Georgia?
They dominated us last year. If that's the metric, what are we even talking about?
Let's at least try to be consistent.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:44 PM ^
I thought the same hopefully it won’t be that way next year but I have a suspicion with herbie having as much influence as he does that it will.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:36 PM ^
There is a case...but it's not better than beating Bama, Tennessee and beating the dog shit out of Oregon.
We may have the best win, but that Oregon win is a difference maker.
And they're the defending national champions...doesn't mean a lot to me, but there is that faction that believes you're the champion until you get beat.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
Georgia hasn't beaten Bama fwiw. I'd still have them 1 tho
November 27th, 2022 at 8:56 PM ^
Apologies, you are correct, but agreed. They also beat the daylights out of Florida and South Carolina.
Just beat LSU, Michigan win, TCU win...and I don't give a shit after that.
USC win and great, an excellent game. USC lose and B1G > SEC.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
Let's be honest here, OSU is way closer in quality to Penn State than UM. The season metrics clearly show this. OSU should only be allowed to be one spot above PSU from here out.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
Should get more first-place votes. What is Georgia's big win? Tennessee was a paper tiger.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:46 PM ^
I remember there fans chanting that we were overrated on ESPN when they were there.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:24 PM ^
If I'm doing the math correctly, someone voted us #3. Wonder who that is. Collegepolltracker.com doesn't have the info up yet, just biding my time. Then again, 5 people voted us #1, so there is that.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
The site has added the vote information. Someone named Tom Murphy from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette put TCU ahead of us. He's not even a TCU alum.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
Only team with two wins vs the Top 8.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:34 PM ^
If Michigan had lost like OSU did, they wouldn't be ranked higher than 8...
Why does OSU always gets breaks?
November 27th, 2022 at 2:47 PM ^
Herbie.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
I can't prove it but I doubt they will be ranked that far down.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
They’re doing it by number of losses. USC and OSU are the only one loss teams in the country and OSU lost to the number 2 team. Got to hope USC wins if we want to lock out OSU as I think this is the order come Tuesday.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
I'm fine with OSU getting boatraced by UGA.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:39 PM ^
I expected the vote for #1 might be a bit more split, but whatever, who cares.
Only one thing left to do, win the whole damn thing.
November 27th, 2022 at 6:20 PM ^
I can't get too worked up about that considering Georgia's dominant win in the CFP semi last year. Michigan will be #1 if they win the whole damn thing, and ultimately that's all that matters.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
If the committee rankings look like this at the top, Ohio State has a solid chance of making it into the playoffs, whether we like it or not. Based on FPI, USC has a 39% chance to win next week and TCU has a 54%. I believe that means the chances of both of them winning (according to FPI) is about 21%. If one loses, I'd imagine that the 5th ranked team would slide in. I know that there is an argument that TCU at 12-1 is more deserving than Ohio State at 11-1 and maybe the way that TCU loses will matter but there is a real chance that Ohio State lucks their way in.
After thinking about it, I prefer Bama slipping in at #4 to present a real chance of taking out Georgia but losing to us. We just saw what we did to Ohio State after doing the same thing to them last year. Similarly, I think a match up against Georgia may go similarly as it did last year too and therefore would prefer to avoid that match up.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
I didn't think we could beat Georgia last year. After seeing what we did in the air yesterday, and assuming a month is enough to get our walking wounded healed up, we have a much better shot this year.
That said, I would prefer TCU in the semifinal because I think we stomp them and at least make the NC game, even if we don't win it.
November 27th, 2022 at 10:35 PM ^
I would like our chances against GA better this year. I am not sure if they are a great team or a very good team, whereas last year they were clearly great. And yesterday's win might make me move us up to the great category. You don't see that kind of second half dominance of the #2 team, on the road, this late in the season, very often.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
Cowards.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:41 PM ^
Have to think the committee is going to put the Gumps at 5. It will suck to have them or OcryO squirrel their way back in. USC needs to TCOB. I think Jawja, The Force, & the Frogs are in either way.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:26 PM ^
Now where'd I put my secret decoder ring?
November 27th, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
Utah is going to beat USC and KSU is going to beat TCU…Ohio state and Alabama will sneak in over ACC Champ Clemson who lost to a mediocre SEC team (South Carolina). We will make OSU fans miserable by handing them 2 losses in a year. We will beat Alabama in the championship because Nick Saban will only be planning for Georgia and assume that’s his championship game. Boom!…letter signed and sent to Santa
November 27th, 2022 at 3:22 PM ^
Sneak in over Clemson?? Clemson will be lucky to still be in the top 10 Tuesday night. Clemson's chances of making the playoffs ended Saturday.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:52 PM ^
I watched that USC game last night, and Caleb Williams was scary good. I'd rather not play them in the semi-final.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:41 PM ^
To be the best, you have to be prepared to beat the best.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:47 PM ^
He's amazing, but I'd still rather play them than 2021 UGA
November 27th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
Keep us at 2 and TCU at 3 and we're good. Let Georgia and USC duke it out.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:02 PM ^
I bet if OSU/MI score was reversed, MI would be behind Alabama and OSU would have a few more first place votes. Now after two straight thumpings, I think MI will get more the benefit of the doubt next season.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
❤❤❤First place votes where it actually feels legitimate❤❤❤
I thought I'd never live to see this day again.....
November 27th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
Not worried about who we play after we beat Purdue. We should not be afraid of anyone, including Georgia this year. They are not the D juggernaut they were last year, and we are significantly better on O.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
To me, our record and ranked wins are far better than Georgia's right now.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Why not #1
Who has gone on the road and beat the #2 in the nation?
NOBODY (but us)
November 27th, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
To low
November 27th, 2022 at 4:55 PM ^
Herbie the nut put on his sec /ESPN $$$ shirt on and had Bama ahead of the nuts for the CFP … just saying
November 27th, 2022 at 10:38 PM ^
Fine with me. Two Ls is a bad look, but those are 2 close road Ls to 2 good teams. What did the Bucknuts do? Lose by 20 at home when the other team didn't even have its best player (to quote a statement made at halftime of some game i watched last night, I think SC/ND).
November 27th, 2022 at 5:37 PM ^
Georgia (an SEC team) is the highest ranked of the undefeated teams.
Alabama & Tennessee (both SEC teams) are the highest ranked of the 2 loss teams.
LSU (an SEC team) is the highest ranked of the 3 loss teams.
South Carolina (an SEC team) just barely missed out on being the highest ranked of the 4 loss teams, thanks to Notre Dame ruining the pattern.
No SEC bias here. Just keep on walking.
November 27th, 2022 at 10:40 PM ^
ND at #15 prior to last night was an indictment on the overall quality of the field this year, pro-ND bias, or both. FFS, they lost to Marshall and Stanford at home!
November 27th, 2022 at 7:08 PM ^
Thank God Alabama is at 6 and not 5 but they could still make it which would...suck. I shouldn't be hoping for Ohio State to sneak in but like I would prefer that to a 2-loss Alabama team making it AGAIN. I think I'm favoring that because I saw Herbstreit of all people put Alabama ahead of his precious Buckeyes because of the 'nature' of their loss compared to Alabama's losses. And I thought this was complete madness. And I was shocked that he's sucked down the ESPN-SEC kool-aid so hard that he's going against his own alma mater. I know Alabama had 2 close losses against good teams (which don't look as good now) but they also very much could have lost to Texas, Ole Miss and Tex A&M (who stinks). Their best win is...Ole Miss? Ohio State lost to their bitter rival who could be the best team in the country and aside from that both teams have pretty much steamrolled every team they've played.
I'm sick of all the scheming to strategically position a 2nd SEC team in the 5-6 spots all season, whether it's been LSU, Tennessee or Alabama. I'm fine with a Georgia, Michigan, TCU, USC playoff and I hope they all take care of business so it stays that way. NO 2-LOSS TEAMS IN THE PLAYOFF.
November 27th, 2022 at 7:39 PM ^
Can someone explain to me why Alabama should be ranked above TN? Same record, TN has a better win and won the head to head. What am I missing?
