AJ Henning wins the first round of the rivalry

Hopefully Marvin blistered his thumb that causes him to drop a critical pass on Saturday.

It is good to see the rivalry still has more light-hearted moments.

It's what Seth was talking about yesterday in the MGoRoundtable, that we don't need to hate.
Though his point led to some discussion of the difference between "sports hate" (which isn't really hate) and "hate hate."
Whatever the result of that discussion, I appreciate Seth's point because the MSU attack—which reporters keep calling an "incident"—reminds us how ugly it can get to decide the other side's the "enemy."

That would never happen in this rivalry because A it is an actual rivalry with teams that hate each other yet respect each other and B they are not a trash program like MSU.
November 23rd, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
It doesn't happen between the teams, but OSU fans (at least the ones in Columbus on gameday) are another story.
November 23rd, 2022 at 9:37 AM ^
Yeah, I gotta be honest, I only half-agreed with that part. MSU fans definitely have a pettier, more childish, obsessive hatred (see current RCMB thread about OSU hockey player calling MSU player a racial slur - Michigan is referenced repeatedly, maybe more than any other party, despite having zero role in the incident). All around much more eye-rolling and irritating.
But I don't know if I'd call OSU "respectful" either. I would bet opposing fans, obviously Michigan in particular, are safer from wanton violent assault in the surrounding environs of Spartan Stadium than the Horseshoe. It's a much more primal hatred, cultural, really detached from any, "Woah, easy, it's just sports" reality. Menacing as opposed to irritating.
I attended MSU for undergrad, have lived in Columbus, and currently reside in Lansing, I would not consider my observations anecdotal.

I mean, they are anecdotal, but they can still be perfectly valid. Sure they might not be accepted in a scientific journal, but for what it's worth, I buy it.
November 23rd, 2022 at 1:09 PM ^
Well, yes, "anecdotal" was the wrong term to use. I was sloppily shorthanding, "Based on sustained experience over lengthy amount of time, not one-off or a couple limited interactions," but yes, still by dictionary definition anecdotal.

I hope AJ is playing football on Saturday

AJ Henning had 67 kick yard returns against Ohio State last year, including a couple of double-digit kick returns in the 4th quarter that set up vital Michigan drives with good field position.
I was surprised they kept kicking it to him.

Don't forget, AJ Henning scored the first touchdown on Ohio State last year too. Ohio State was distracted by Donovan Edwards running to the flat, and Cade faked a quick out then handed off to Henning who flat out beat several Ohio State defenders to the pylon.
Dude is more than just a kick returner

I wonder if AJ could serve as emergency running back option to compliment CJ, Dunlap & Gash. We’ve heard about the Deebo like role coming into season but haven’t seen it. He could help lift the load and provide some pass catching out of back field.
November 23rd, 2022 at 9:35 AM ^
He got a carry earlier this year in the redzone, though I can't remember against who. Regardless, he kind of just buried himself into the line without really looking for a gap. He probably hasn't had near the reps required to be a successful RB. Hence why he's the end around / outside run guy.

Rivalries are supposed to be fun, unlike some douchebags that take it too far. Glad to see them having fun. Hope AJ rips off a punt return for six on Saturday.
November 23rd, 2022 at 7:03 AM ^
Not surprised that these dudes are friendly unlike the douches on MSU’s squad of scumbags.
but is it wrong for me to say that I hope Michigan figuratively curb stomps the OHowihate State Buckeyes on the football field this coming Saturday?

Wondering if AJ was able to get any recruiting news from playing Fortnite with Mr. Harrison? Asking for a friend.
November 23rd, 2022 at 8:08 AM ^
Too bad it wasn't counterstrike. Then we'd get the real juice.

Loser goes to the Portal.

Did Henning rest on Saturday?
And, if Henning engages in some "team" Fortnite activities - may I suggest that AJ partner with Ninja for the next round of competition.

Someone make a play. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
November 23rd, 2022 at 9:30 AM ^
I always laugh when the morons at MSU try and align with OSU folks. MSU idiots use words like ‘scUM’ to act like they are allies with OSU against us. Most OSU folks are like - ‘yeah … go back to your $95M coach and program we just smacked around again this year’.
November 23rd, 2022 at 10:03 AM ^
RJ - most Bucks use the acronym "TTUN". If they use the other acronym - it might have to be "scUx", since they seem to have difficulty using the letter "M".
As for Spartan fans - hmmm, no recognition or acknowledgement required.
November 23rd, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
They used to use "TSUN" - "That School Up North." TTUN is an Urban Meyer thing.
November 23rd, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
MSU has more letters in "scum" than UM.

We’ve got to remember that a lot of these guys were/are buddies off the football field. Some of them were recruited together, played together, maybe went to the same schools together, grew up together, etc.
Either way it’s cool to see stuff like this off the field. The rivalry is intense, but there’s still respect and the ability to act like adults. Unlike, you know, that other rivalry.

I don't want to hear Sherrone Moore saying this before fall camp next season:
"I was a little bit worried about him coming into camp, because he spent so much time playing Fortnite this summer"
