Olu named semifinalist for Outland Trophy
Olusegun Oluwatimi has been named one of seven semifinalists for the Outland Trophy, awarded to the nation’stop lineman: https://www.sportswriters.net/fwaa/news/2022/11/16/seven-semifinalists-named-for-2022-outland-trophy
I didn’t know before reading the article, but Michigan has never had an Outland Trophy winner despite many years of great line play. Last finalist was Jake Long, though David Baas and Greg Skrepenak were also finalists.
In other news, Luke Schoonmaker was snubbed for the Mackey semifinalist cut, although OSU’s Cade Stover made the list. I’m sure his nagging injury didn’t help his case since he hasn’t had a chance to pad his stats, but it’s still annoying that the Mackey just selects for receiving yards and touchdowns rather than the whole job of a TE.
Anyways - Best of luck to Olu to bring home the Outland Trophy!

He's been such a solid addition. I hope he wins it this year.

Way way more than solid. I'd argue that behind Corum, he's been the offensive MVP of the season.

Thanks for the update. Good luck to Olu.
Too bad about Schoooooooon.

Well Deserved. He, and the rest of the OL, need to show out against those turd burglars down south to seal the deal. What a pickup!

The Outland Trophy would be a nice way to cap off a college career. Good luck!
Steve 'not Aidan's uncle' Hutchinson was a finalist as well. His consolation prize was a very nice Pro career.

I assume “Very nice” is intentional understatement.

If I had enumerated his accomplishments I'd have been negged and told to make it a Diary Post!

Stover isn't gonna win it anyway. It will be Brock Bowers or Michael Mayer

Rightfully so.

Outland would be awesome. But if not, definitely the Rimington award for best center.

A lineman trophy and Steve Hutchinson didn't win it should tell you all you need to know about how dumb their selection process is
November 17th, 2022 at 8:59 AM ^
Can't spell "Outland" without O-L-U.
November 17th, 2022 at 8:59 AM ^
Wow, that is shocking, we've never had an Outland winner. Lewan was drafted quite high, surprised he wasn't a finalist. But is it common for centers to win it, since they have their own Rimington trophy? I would think they tend to give it to OT.
November 17th, 2022 at 7:03 PM ^
Jake long didn’t win it? No holding penalties for two years and never committed a false start?
November 17th, 2022 at 9:00 AM ^
He should have quite a bit of hardware and accolades this year. Rimington probably is a given, he should be at the very least a finalist for the Outland, and a Consensus All-American (perhaps even Unanimous) should be expected.
November 17th, 2022 at 9:09 AM ^
The OL deserves all the accolades available. I believe the OL is also a semi-finalist for the Moore award again this year.
One play, series, and game at a time.
Go Blue!

Michigan has never won the Outland? Outlandish!
November 17th, 2022 at 9:29 AM ^
but IS he the best transfer ever?
November 17th, 2022 at 9:34 AM ^
He should be a shoo-in for the Rimington, and I would think has a really good chance at the Outland. The complexity at which this OL is operating without errors is incredible - and that falls mostly on the Center. Tackles tend to get an inordinate amount of publicity, especially for an OL blocking for a really good pass game. But centers are the lynchpin of anything an OL tries to do.
As for the Mackey, Schoon would have a much better shot if the entirety of TE play was considered. However, Jake Butt would not have won his Mackey if that were the case. So half a dozen in one hand, and six in the other...

And yet, the nfl draft talking heads have him way down on their lists, not just in the OL lists, but also specifically for center. Yeah, an outstanding OT is essential for a good nfl line, but I’d say the center position is really where everything starts and that even with two great OT’s, if you have an average center you are going to have an average line overall.
Olu is a great center that will likely start day one for whichever nfl team he goes to.

One might be hard-pressed to find a play who has so strongly impacted a team.
November 17th, 2022 at 10:09 AM ^
Sad to think, because he deserves the award based upon the whole season.
However, a loss to osu means likely he won't win.
Luckily, we WILL WIN and he'll get this individual deserved award.
Go Blue.

F Cade Stover. Beat Ohio!

Olu has been an amazing player for Michigan.
Good luck to the kid!

He is such a great addition to the team. So solid and smart. ALWAYS in the right position.
Go Olu Olu!

Great news for Olu. Cade stover is trash.
November 17th, 2022 at 1:19 PM ^
So someone who is smarter and better informed than I (shouldn't be difficult): what are our prospects for filling Oluwatimi's considerable vacancy after this season?
November 17th, 2022 at 2:04 PM ^
Greg Crippen was JJ’s center at IMG and has been an understudy to Vastardis and Olu the last two years. Aside from him, Raheem Anderson has mashed people when given the chance this year and could be a quality backup C if needed.

So annoying how the website will give you 0 indication your comment is posting as you sit and wait 30 seconds, you hit post again, and now you've double posted.

A well-deserved honor to be on the short list. He has been fantastic for Michigan and would have my vote.

An Olusegun Oluwatimi Outland will be Outstanding.
Even the Buckeyes are behind it.
