The board is like a twitter feed now.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
Ha, that’s just like r/CFB and r/NFL.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:47 PM ^
rCFB isn't bad, but yes, rNFL is basically just a twitter feed for people to comment on

Like they said on the podcast today, this attitude is what MSU athletics is and it's good that it's finally in the national spotlight.
October 31st, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
Not just the athletics, it's also in the student body.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Well we're not getting any facts from the media.
This is where we're at, that a poisonous toxic platform named for twits is getting us information because the media won't move past the very fucking first tweet by an MSU homer calling it a "scuffle". The media is two days out of sync in 2022 so this is what we've got left.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
It has been a long, long time since the American mass media was remotely reliable.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:56 PM ^
"It has been a long, long time since the American mass media was remotely reliable."
And, unfortunately, it appears things are going to continue to spiral downward. Both sides of the aisle are at fault. Social media just exacerbates the fact that people, as a whole, have a lot of not-so-good things inside.
Makes one thankful for a coach who truly is trying to be a good guy, even with a few fits and starts. I am quite glad-to-be a Michigan Wolverine.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
Both sides of what aisle? The media and what?
Crissakes this is the problem. The narrative out of the gate was that this attack was a “scuffle” in brazen effort to both-sides an attack with one clear guilty party. And now you’re “both sides”-ing when we’re talking about an industry where a second side doesn’t even exist!
"Both sides" is not a reliable take to look like the Smart One in the room with minimal effort. There is no looking at ten guys whaling on a guy with a bum leg and then oozing "both sides" out of your keyboard like pus from a runaway infection. And now you just "both sides" because. . . FFS, why the fuck did you "both sides" just now?! It's Pavlovian at this point!
October 31st, 2022 at 2:19 PM ^
I assume he meant the political aisle, i.e. both liberal-leaning and conservative-leaning media...
October 31st, 2022 at 2:19 PM ^
Probably, but we're talking about sports media! ESPN and SI! That's how utterly stupid that take is!
October 31st, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
"Both sides of what aisle?"
dragonchild, I completely understand your criticism of my response. But I stand by it.
Unfortunately, your statement about "ten guys whaling on a guy" no longer matters in today's media.
Perhaps ten victims were hitting the privileged guy, and we should all feel sorry for the ten and be angry that the privileged guy was allowed to receive much less than he deserved.
Prove me wrong. And don't pretend that what I see on the video is any evidence.
And please excuse the angry sarcasm. But no, today an angry mob attacking one defenseless person is no longer proof of wrong doing. I dearly hope sane minds prevail, but I am not placing any money on the outcome.
Also, the majority in the media are handling things right, but a long legal battle lies ahead.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
What idiotic takes. The media has been all over this story, flatly condemning the assaults and airing footage. What else do you expect reporters to do within 48 hours? They don’t just get access to everyone’s security cameras and iPhones. There’s a process. The media doesn’t simply exist to produce something that immediately validates your interests, unless you’re talking about Fox News. Chill out.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
My preference would be quite the opposite of “condemning” anything. I am seeking just the facts. And if only “the facts” were being reported, it would be “two Michigan players assaulted post-game, details forthcoming when available.” There are all kinds of media members spinning everything. That is exactly what I would seek to eliminate. Trustworthy media doesn’t get to have “opinions” except an occasional editorial clearly marked as such. The media doesn’t make things true by reporting, it reports occurrences. It observes and reports. Or at least that is what it should do.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
Unfortunately, successful media these days is media that exists to immediately validate your perspective, truth and reliability be damned.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:54 PM ^
One of twitter's best features is that it moves far, far faster than the traditional news cycle.
Of course, that makes it one of its worst features, too.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:17 PM ^
Yeah, the best thing about the Internet is that anyone can use it, and the worst thing about the Internet is that anyone can use it.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:47 PM ^
The only way to reverse such narrative is to bring criminal charges and reveal all evidences to public. They asked for it, they will get what they deserve.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:54 PM ^
Twitter isn't all bad, you have some great information that comes in through individuals sharing their expertise. You just have to avoid the garbage. It's like being in a jungle. You could find the cure for cancer or you could be killed by a frog. 🤷♀️ But I quit all social media about a year ago because I couldn't stop being pissed off at all those frogs.
October 31st, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
Frogs are poisonous to avoid getting attacked. Leave 'em alone and they'll happily leave you alone. Jungles are important and endangered. Twitter is poisoned by its own residents. It's deliberately poisoned. If you want to compare it to something, go with Zone Rouge -- completely man-made and permanently toxic. It's like planting land mines and spraying poison all over your own neighborhood. You're so miserable and bored and psychopathic that you'll salt and mine your own earth, simply to drag others down to your own level of paranoia and misery. No, not everyone who lives there is bad, but that doesn't make it worthwhile to visit.
But now the media relies on Twitter, to an extent even lazier than Twits themselves. The "scuffle" narrative still has legs because the major media outlets (ostensibly with resources) are still going off the very first MSU homer tweet. At this point we know that ESPN and SI are glorified retweet shops because they clearly didn't even watch the clip of McBurrows getting mobbed -- it's less than a minute FFS!

I regret that I have but one upvote to give for that excellent analogy analysis. ✊

Re Twitter feed comment, due to the change in ownership, I'm going on a strict Twitter fast and urge others to do the same.
I may be an old crotchity man, but I'm an old crotchity man concerned for the state of our democracy, the toxic speech expressed in the "digital town square" that has led to an inexplicable assault on an old man (Pelosi) and which has taken a heated rivalry game and turned into a bloody mess (Lloyd's Tunnel).
October 31st, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
Take this shit elsewhere. Nobody gives a shit about your political opinions, no matter which side you're on.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
Fact!
October 31st, 2022 at 2:50 PM ^
Politics are for squares.
I enjoy Michigan State fans, of all people, imploring Harbaugh to "worry about your own program."
October 31st, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
Ownership doesn't matter to me, but I've never used Twitter, and am not planning to start now.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
So Twitter caused MSU to go all beat down on two Michigan players?... um, okay. How about people take some accountability for their actions and stop blaming outside forces for the dumb shit they do.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
The world was notably peaceful before Twitter
October 31st, 2022 at 12:47 PM ^
Twitter has ALWAYS been a cesspool.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
Twitter has always been horrible, and it's a reflection of society as a whole. I don't think the current owner has the ability to change that, nor the desire. But neither does anyone else, as can be witnessed by the entire media landscape.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
How about this: don’t use Twitter as a news source.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
But Twitter really isn’t news. And that is a big part of the issue. News and social media are two entirely separate things that have been conflated. Twitter is a collection of opinions and nothing more.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
By definition it absolutely IS news: “newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent or important events.”
October 31st, 2022 at 1:17 PM ^
I think at the current time that is why it ISN’T news, at least as long as the source gets to decide what is important or noteworthy and not the readers.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:26 PM ^
Not all news is journalism; not all journalism is news
October 31st, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
Twitter is horrible, but I don't think it reflects society as a whole.
October 31st, 2022 at 5:43 PM ^
"and it's a reflection of society as a whole"
You hit the nail on the head and it's absolutely depressing.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:23 PM ^
Great story. Compelling and rich.

Here’s the full video of the statement from Harbaugh’s presser today, if you’d like that better.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:07 PM ^
Lots of people that don't understand how to use Twitter on this thread.
October 31st, 2022 at 1:21 PM ^
A couple of points:
1. 97.1 sucks and I stopped listening years ago. If the Statee slappies are still on in the afternoon … 🤮🤮🤮🤮 Much rather listen to WTKA replay on YouTube
2. Placing blame on UM players because they walked up a tunnel is wrong. Asking them to stand aside because Tucker, MSU Football program, or their University can’t control their players is wrong. That’s like saying I can’t walk down a street through a protest because police can’t guarantee my safety. Yes you can guarantee. You arrest the assholes and throw them in jail.

"Per Harbaugh, Gemon Green was punched first and then Ja’Den McBurrows tried to break it up before he was dragged into a hallway and attacked. Harbaugh continues to emphasize that the higher vantage point video is crystal clear. 'Open and shut.'"

Need TMZ to do the one thing they're useful for and release the video
October 31st, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
That's clever, but I doubt they can deliver here. This ain't like getting the paparazzi's smartphone footage (that shit's already out). Building security folks generally don't want the public to know their cameras' viewpoints.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
Hey, never doubt TMZ
October 31st, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
I read that ABC had a tunnel camera so do your thing ABC intern.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
Is there more on the "apologies won't be accepted" in the OP's title?
October 31st, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
That’s what I’m wondering as well. I’d love that if he said that, but also who has apologize for anything beyond outgoing outsider President Stanley?
