That was one of the worst coached halves of the Harbaugh era
October 8th, 2022 at 1:56 PM ^
Passing on first down is good
October 8th, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
Heresy! On 1st down we run up the middle behind Jumbo Elliot. We only pass on 3rd and long, and then only to Anthony Carter.
After all, this is Michigan, where it's always the 1980's offensively.
October 8th, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
Game day thread or wait for snowflakes.
October 8th, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
It is therapy for all of us to talk about it now!
October 8th, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
It wasn’t great
October 8th, 2022 at 1:58 PM ^
That fourth down call was awful. Everyone watching knew it was going to be a standard run up the middle, and that's exactly what it was. We need more variety on offense. And our defense reminds me of the Lions, except Indiana's offense is too bad to capitalize on it most of the time. If we were playing a decent team we would be behind by multiple scores right now.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
So bad, how many times has that not worked in the past two years?
October 8th, 2022 at 5:35 PM ^
Not many?
October 8th, 2022 at 5:34 PM ^
It wasn't a run up the middle and converts if Bell doesn't do whatever the fuck he did.
October 8th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
We Miss Josh Gattis!
October 8th, 2022 at 2:02 PM ^
Broyles Award winner Josh Gattis? Who won the Broyles Award and then left for the same job at a shit program? And is being skewered in the media every week? That Josh Gattis?
October 8th, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
Miami fans would be happy to crowdsource a buyout and a plane ticket back to A2 for Gattis.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
Yes, that Josh Gattis! We lead rye country in Explosive plays last year with Cade. Look how this offense look with JJ
October 8th, 2022 at 4:43 PM ^
Just stop that, Cade!!
October 8th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
Looks like it put up almost 500 yards of offense and cruised to a win... again.
October 9th, 2022 at 12:16 AM ^
Yeah, this comment didn't age well.
October 8th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
I’d usually say wait for snowflakes but that was so damn bad I don’t even care. The coaching was bad but even so, Michigan should have at least 21 on the board.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:00 PM ^
Matt Weiss runs the offense like he’s from the Stone Age and Jesse Minter, like Mike MacDonald, can’t defend against the hurry up. I don’t understand why you hire a guy who coached a bottom 10 defense last year and a guy who can’t run an innovative offense. I thought Gattis wasn’t great but man Weiss is awful
October 8th, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
To be fair, if it wasn't for that cheap unsportsmanlike conduct call, it would have been 3rd and 20. Indiana likely winds up punting and that was their TD drive.
Yet we still only gave up 10.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
The Big Noon crew and Urban Meyer are blasting the conservative playcalling.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
As they should.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:04 PM ^
A bad criticism!
Mike Hart went down and it's affected the whole team. Corum doesn't look the same. I hope we can reset and win. Hold off on the criticism until after the game.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Nah that's a terrible excuse, that has nothing to do with the play calling
October 8th, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
Shouldn't the coaches have had a gameplan for their run game coordinator going down to a medical emergency during a game? Such poor preparation.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
Agreed. We should have a game plan in which every coach and half of the first string has a medical emergency. Next man up. If one team bus drives off a cliff, that should have no impact on the game. I am sick of all these excuses.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
I just feel like we need JJ to run the ball more. I know they don't want him hurt because of McNamara out but this is no different with him in. Gotta keep the D honest but some of the formations at this point in the season I yell at the TV and say who it is going to. Need a changeup somewhere.
Go Blue!!!!
October 8th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
They just need to pass on early down and break tendencies. IUs LBs are running straight downhill at the snap. It's like giving the batter a pitchcomm earpiece.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
How I imagine a Harbaugh game plan meeting goes ...
"Hey Coach, Indiana is atrocious at stopping the pass"
Harbaugh: "hmm, well, let's show them we can beat them playing our brand of football"
October 8th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Win ugly, win often
October 8th, 2022 at 2:07 PM ^
JJ just doesn’t look comfortable. Looks over coached. There’s something with every Harbaugh’s QBs look the same. Just let them sling it around more.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
Luck and Kap should be getting a third each of Harbaugh’s salary. He’s made a lot of money off of them. That 49ers team was loaded with talent but Singeltary was awful.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:24 PM ^
I don't know yet -- JJ has connected on a couple longer plays in this game. It may very well be a combo of playcalling and receivers not getting open, as Klatt pointed out -- gotta go with that since we can't often see the whole field.
Then again, you may very well be right -- he does seem to be checking down very quickly.
C'mon Jim, let JJ be JJ. We're not winning the conference with conservative O *this* season.
EDITED TO ADD: Second half looks much better. Everyone was probably pretty affected by the Coach Hart situation. Time to relax, myself included.
October 8th, 2022 at 5:47 PM ^
Yeah JJ really looked terrible out there.
Harbaugh has completely ruined his first-year starter to the point where he just barely crested 300 yds passing and 3 TDs. Looks completely broken out there. Confused. Lost. Maybe lonely. Or gassy. Anyway, just a waste.
What a stupid goddamn fan base this is sometimes. Why there is always a group of people who take special joy in being the first to say our coaches are terrible is something I will never understand. Maybe y'all just like the feeling of being pissed off.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
A good summary
October 8th, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
Snowflakes are starting early.
I thought JJ was supposed to be the savior?
October 8th, 2022 at 2:16 PM ^
Shit. Wrong thread.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
Yep, an 18 yard penalty that limits our play calling.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:22 PM ^
The sights and sounds of someone you care about having a seizure are definitely a buzz kill. You guys complaining about play calling are aliens.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:52 PM ^
The sights and sounds of someone you care about having a seizure while your play calling looks like it possessed by aliens is definitely a buzz kill.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:36 PM ^
Credit to Indiana though they played good, they disrupted our offense and had us confused on defense for awhile
October 8th, 2022 at 2:36 PM ^
thank you for the op-ed
October 8th, 2022 at 2:38 PM ^
UFR this week is going to be brutal
October 8th, 2022 at 2:51 PM ^
Klatt pointing out how predictable our offense is.
October 8th, 2022 at 3:02 PM ^
They completely gave up on letting Corum bounce to the outside, just run into a stacked box
October 9th, 2022 at 12:11 AM ^
My brother in Christ, it sounds like your theory is that the coaches instructed Blake Corum, "Son, we have given up on you bouncing outside. Your prerogative to bounce outside is hereby revoked. Now run straight into a pile of meaty asses or so help me God you will not see this field again."
If that's what you're saying . . . then in a truly, painfully dumb fucking thread, you may well have won the title of King Dumb Dumb.
October 8th, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
One of the worst threads ever
October 8th, 2022 at 3:25 PM ^
Both poorly coached and played. Just poor all around
October 8th, 2022 at 3:40 PM ^
Seems like a typical case of going with a thin game plan the week before a big game. When we needed to get it going, we did.
October 8th, 2022 at 3:52 PM ^
This was one of the worst threads of the Harbaugh era. Did you just start watching football this year? This was a trap game. There was a first half hangover effect from the Iowa game. Harrell’s iffy personal foul penalty kept alive an IU drive. Other penalties, phantom and earned, are not the fault of the coaches. The game plan, as we found out in the second half, was to force IU to defend the run so as to open up the passing game. The defense saw what IU was doing in the first half, adjusted at halftime and pitched a shutout. Get a grip.
October 8th, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
I'm offended by you calling it an "iffy personal foul." It was a non personal foul. (Just grousing). Otherwise, you are right.
