Little Brown Jug question
If Michigan and Minnesota were to make it to the B1G Championship game, would the Jug also be up for grabs? Got to thinking about this today when Tony Gerdman (Michigan Monday) was wondering if Illinois and OSU made it, would it be an Illibuck game? I would think so, but not sure. Didn't know if you folks had discussed this and I might have missed it.
Most of the trophy games in the B1G are within the Divisions. Sadly the Broken Bits of Chair falls into this category.

Yes - the trophy transcends the conference divisions. Rest assured, it we play Minnesota in Indy, The little brown jug will go to it’s rightful home in Ann Arbor.

'will go' to AA? bless joe milton, if he did have one pretty sharp game, it was one where the little brown jug 'will stay' in AA.

’Will go back to’ after a brief visit to Indy
That Milton game was the ultimate appetizer. Unfortunately, the main course never came.
October 6th, 2022 at 6:58 AM ^
indeed re: appetizer. i would love to know the nitty-gritty details about his subsequent flops. team-related? covid-related? lack of work on his part (not likely given how well regarded he apparently was by the team)? something didn't/doesn't quite add up. i hope he gets it together at tenn.

It could be that his arm only has a 5th gear.
October 6th, 2022 at 8:47 AM ^
He's had the same result at two schools. If we don't have the answer, we at least know the outcome.

Personally, I would like to know EXACTLY how Milton supposedly "outperformed" Dylan McCaffrey. Because in 2019, it sure as shit looked like McCaffrey had 2020 well in hand.
My memory of 2019 - besides the Shea Patterson Infinite Regression - is Dylan coming into a game, scoring handily, then Milton playing for quite a while, showing us both how high his ceiling was...and how far he had to go to get there.
I don't suppose that we'll ever get the true story, but I'd bet one fake internet dollar that it wasn't a true competition.
October 6th, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
Milton went to Tennessee and won that starting job coming out of training camp as well. I would keep your fake internet dollar and invest it in the theory that Milton can put on one hell of a training camp behind closed doors.
October 6th, 2022 at 11:17 PM ^
Joe Milton won the job at Tennessee and was later replaced by a QB who turned out to be pretty good. Some guys are amazing in practice but look totally different on game day.
Dylan down transfered and it seems he is not having a lot of success...but that team is very bad.
October 6th, 2022 at 12:09 PM ^
Dylan McCaffrey, now a Senior QB at Northern Colorado, is not exactly lighting up Big Sky competition. My guess is, neither QB was all that impressive in practice and the upside with Milton (primarily his big arm) was greater than that of McCaffrey which is why Joe won the job.
October 6th, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
Counterpoint: few P5 qbs light up schools at the competition level of Northern Colorado. Matt Gutierrez had pedestrian numbers at Idaho State after transferring from Michigan. He was an UDFA, but not because of his production. He was signed solely because he would have been the starting QB at Michigan following a long line of NFL qbs, had he not been injured. His poor production was thought to be the result of poor supporting personnel.
McCaffreys poor production probably means he was not an NFL talent, but isn't really indicative if he's an average P5 qb. He's on a bad team. We really don't know how he would have done at Michigan.

I've often wondered what effect the WI dirty hit/concussion has had on his play since then. I believe he was also evaluated for a concussion in 2021, although I don't remember the outcome of that situation. He could just be a guy who can't play football anymore because of the after-effects. Or there could now be a mental aspect to it that makes him subconsciously tentative.
I will say this, in his limited time prior to the concussion, I thought he was the real deal. The tools seemed to be there and there was an unmistakable aura of leadership, similar to what Cade displays.
October 6th, 2022 at 8:58 AM ^
I agree with "Yes".
Logically - wouldn't the score of any game played between the schools go on to the jug? Why would the context in which you play the game affect that?
October 5th, 2022 at 10:50 PM ^
Of course it would
October 6th, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
I believe the SEC/B12 championships have had similar scenarios with trophy games, and they didn't play for the rivalry trophy.
October 6th, 2022 at 11:18 AM ^
Why would what those 2 dumb conferences do affect this?
October 7th, 2022 at 9:52 AM ^
But with Minnesota, they are almost never on the schedule anymore. I could see your argument if Minnesota were on the schedule this year, but even then, it just seems the jug should be up for grabs anytime the 2 teams play.
October 5th, 2022 at 10:50 PM ^
It wouldn't be up for grabs. We would just let them look at it for a minute (out of courtesy) before we beat their heads in with their paddles and took it back to Ann Arbor.
Order is being restored.
October 6th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
First time I’ve seen “courtesy” and “beat their heads in with a paddle” in the same sentence. Check that off the bucket list!

I sure hope so. I like jugs.

Hmmm, I'm gonna need a hint. Not saying you're wrong, just that I don't remember the gif you're talking about (memory lapse is all to common these days as I approach 50). 😊
October 6th, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
The Jessica Alba gif calling us into bed with her that East German Judge always posts. You critiqued it because the 'lamp pulls your eye away from here'...
BTW, if you're only approaching 50, you don't get to talk about age-induced memory lapses!
October 6th, 2022 at 10:20 AM ^
Ah, now I remember. But I think you're confusing me with BlueVet in that thread. I only remember because I thought it was one of the weirdest objections I'd ever seen.

I hate being in my late 40s. Too old to do the things I used to do, but not old enough to claim things like memory lapses.
October 6th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
Oopsy... My bad!
Since I'm on the second half of my 50's I'll claim the age-induced memory loss, but there's a lot of Blue running around here!

I'm not sure Minnesota will play for a little jug. Rumor has it that P.J. Fleck only likes big jugs.

East German Judge is Mgoblog’s chief creepy & horny af resident. Cannot help himself but post pics of coaches wives and players moms (if I was Franz’s mom I’d have gotten a restraining order).

What's an Illibuck?
EDiT: oh God, that's hideous
October 5th, 2022 at 11:15 PM ^
Because is late, stole this from Wikipedia.
The Illibuck is a carved wooden turtle that serves as the trophy awarded to the winner of the game. Two junior honorary societies, Bucket and Dipper of Ohio State and Atius-Sachem of Illinois, are responsible for the care of the Illibuck. Originally the "trophy" was a live turtle when the tradition began in 1925, picked for its expected long life as a symbol of the anticipated long life of the rivalry. From 1919 to 1933, the Illinois–Ohio State game was the regular-season finale for both teams. Since the original turtle's death on April 14, 1926, ten wooden replica Illibucks have been carved, each with the scores from games on its back. The Illibuck is the second oldest trophy passed between Big Ten Conference football programs (the Little Brown Jug was created in 1903).

I guess OSU pretty much owns that permanently too huh?
October 5th, 2022 at 11:22 PM ^
If this were pro wrestling, some enterprising Maryland students would break into OSU’s football offices and steal Illibuck, renaming him “Bucktudo” and starting a new (and better) rivalry.
October 6th, 2022 at 9:59 AM ^
Actually, easier than that. Unless they have moved them since I last visited, they were at the Kuhn Honor and Scholar House. It used to be where the OSU President lived before they moved that off campus during the Vietnam War.
The new house actually was on my paper route, near Whetstone Park/Park of Roses when I was a kid. It has relocated a couple times to different, larger homes in the Bexley area, close to the Ohio Govenor's Mansion.
That would be funny, BTW.
October 6th, 2022 at 10:14 AM ^
That's actually hilarious that the turtle died in less than a year.
