Is Scott Frost feeling miserable?
I’m thinking Scott Frost probably isn’t feeling that great after his unceremonious separation from the Nebraska football program. But what keeps popping into my head is that most anyone who was fired from their job and at the same time handed a 15 million dollar check on the way out the door would not feel a great deal of pain. Most would likely feel elation. Coaching is one weird career track. Poor pay on the way up. Sleeping on a cot in your office. Typically having to move the family periodically to climb the ladder. And then for some, dream job eventually. Big money. Big disappointment. Big payout.

Did you expect Scott Frost of his wife to be on MGoBlog to answer this question for you?
September 27th, 2022 at 1:51 PM ^
Based on what I've read regarding the rumors about Frost and his wife, the better question is whether he expected Frost or the waitress he was hooking up with to answer the question...

Cayman Nebraska really gets around!

Scott Frost always reminded me of Corky from "Life Goes On". I'm pretty sure even Corky had a girlfriend in one episode

Is this a rhetorical question?

His mom probably has an account here, though more than likely she got it banned

"...same time handed a 15 million dollar check on the way out the door would not feel a great deal of pain."
I imagine there are two reasons Scott isn't feeling any pain...

Charlie Weis, and his schematic advantage, disagrees with you.

Dudes got an ego, a big one. This can't feel great for the guy, and that's glorious.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
You just got fired as the head football coach at Nebraska. What are you going to do?
"I'm going to Disneyworld!!"
September 27th, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
I have to ask OP, why did you think this completely random thought you had deserved a thread of its own? I mean back when little Scottie was gainfully employed we were dangerously close (ok over) the line in beating the dead horse but now that he's gone who gives a shit what he thinks or feels?
The dude got paid a shit-ton of money to leave his job two weeks early, that gives you, Scott and the rest of the world a pretty good idea what his bosses think of him but as the great Ed Orgeron said when he found it he too had a nice buyout clause "tell me when you want me to leave and which door you want me to go out of."
So to answer your question, no he's probably not "feeling miserable". He's probably a bit embarrassed but 7.5MM will sooth a lot of hurt feelings IMO.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:20 PM ^
In classic mgoblog shitpost fashion, OP makes a terrible post (that's actually several weeks out of date) and doesn't even reply to any of the comments in the thread.
Mgoblog shitposters rarely stick around in the comments.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:50 PM ^
I responded to mgrowold as soon as I saw his comment. What do you expect posters to do, sit on the board all day and immediately respond each time a comment is made. If I’m a shitposter you’re a shit.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
I may have been stoned when I thought it and bored when I wrote it. That said, I think my random thoughts (like this post) are worthy of a football message board. You must have too as your comment, besides trashing me at the outset, was substantive and appropriately responsive.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
Worthy of a reply? Perhaps
Worthy of a thread? Most certainly no.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:37 PM ^
You started a stupid thread and then want to argue that you think it was reasonable.
In a democracy the people decide and judging by the number of downvotes you've received I'd say the people have spoken.
This is a stupid thread
September 27th, 2022 at 1:52 PM ^
Thank you for your honest and heartfelt response.

We don’t live in a democracy anymore. Haven’t you heard.
September 27th, 2022 at 2:55 PM ^
it never has been a democracy. it's a constitutional republic.

I answered your question and you definitely answered mine. I get it, the post makes sense to me now. Thanks!

What people don’t know is I’m the real grow old. I’m 72, have been an ardent Michigan fan for 55 years and love the board. It kinda hurts getting characterized as a shitposter given all the garbage I’ve seen on this message board over the years.
September 27th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
I get that it sucks, but if you love the board then you know the rules. Posts like these have been torn to shreds since the board's inception. Don't view it as a personal attack, just a way to de-cludder things.
September 27th, 2022 at 3:05 PM ^
I don't feel I have the wisdom to advice you but... I would not argue with someone on the internet about something as irrelevant as Scott Frost. He does not deserve that kind of attention and definitely not at the expense of your mental health.
September 27th, 2022 at 3:47 PM ^
I’ll suggest you shouldn’t concern yourself too much with the opinions of people you don’t know and will never meet. If they really weren’t interested in your post, they would’ve ignored it.
September 27th, 2022 at 6:37 PM ^
"I’m 72, have been an ardent Michigan fan for 55 years and love the board. It kinda hurts getting characterized as a shitposter"
I'll be 70 early next year. I've gotten negged plenty during my 14+ years here, and I've never considered complaining about those negs for one second.
If you're really 72, you're far, far too old to complain about stuff like this.

Post this crap on Reddit or Twitter. Not MGoBlog. This isn’t MLive friend.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
Anyone who gets fired or laid off from a job and does not feel pain immediately after .......... that just means they weren't overly engaged or invested in the job at the end anyway.
A $15MM check makes things easier, but for those who are ambitious - failure never feels good.
September 27th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
^^^ This.
Money supports a lifestyle. It does not alleviate hurt feelings and the reality of failing at something important to you. During those quiet moments of reflection, your bank account means nothing.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
I don't know the tax rate on those kinds of buyouts but whatever it is I bet it's not enough...
September 27th, 2022 at 1:30 PM ^
Top tax rate on "income" is 37 percent. Excluding state/local taxes, his severance check was $9.45 million.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:50 PM ^
Nebraska's top rate is 6.84 percent, so he walked away with $8,424,000. Not too shabby.
September 27th, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
Yeah, not shabby at all. Continuing the math exercise: if he sticks to the safest pieces of income producing paper, using today's rates, he will see, pre-tax, about $290K a year or $24.5K a month - forever.
September 27th, 2022 at 2:38 PM ^
Plus 5% for supplemental income. I'd be shocked if the state of Nebraska allowed a buyout to be considered regular wages.

I haven’t won an award recently so I appreciate your support.
September 27th, 2022 at 2:19 PM ^
Not even close.
Pretty much anything Johnny Utah posted was pure shit. Or the Aussie Jim Harbuagh Choo Choo idiot. That's just off the top of my head.
It's not a great post -- I think the OP is trying to communicate that money doesn't create happiness because HCs are super competitive and driven people so by nature may lament getting shit canned.
Which has merit.
But does it justify a unique thread? Is it Michigan? Is it on topic? Does most of the fanbase care anymore?
No.
But among the worst of all time?
No.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
Ed Orgeron, when told LSU wanted him out and was going to give him the entire buyout: “What day do you want me gone, and which door should I use?”
September 27th, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
I mean, at what point does the buyout become an inducement not to work or to do a good job? They negotiate these ridiculous buyouts as deterrents to firing the coach but after a while it starts to look like a reward or nice consolation prize for them. When the heat is on and the program is falling apart and the fans are going nuts, getting paid millions (just as much, if not more than their current salary) to NOT deal with all that will look pretty enticing to these guys. Just like it did for Orgeron. He isn't as stupid as he looks (but he looks real stupid).
It just seems like these buyouts aren't working.
September 27th, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
Tuck, is that you?
September 27th, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
I don't know Scott Frost at all. But if I would make a guess his feelings on the firing has very little to do with the money. He's from Nebraska and played at Nebraska. He is Mr Nebraska, one of the most loved Nebraska players ever. Now, I don't think he can ever step foot on campus of his alma mater, let alone in the state of Nebraska without getting sneers and ridicule. He is basically persona non grata in his own home. That may subside over time, but I'm sure he's not dealing with that fact well.
Think about Hoke. There is no way he'd be universally welcome back on campus. The situation would be way worse with Frost on the Nebraska campus.
September 27th, 2022 at 2:28 PM ^
I don't think too many fans have an issue with Hoke. I see him as similar to Tommy Amaker, a good guy who just didn't get it done. And, when you're coming off a Big Ten title, it's easy to let the past go.
But it's probably hard for him to think about Michigan, and I could imagine he's not in a hurry to come back and relive everything.
September 27th, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
hoke would absolutely be welcomed back on campus.
September 27th, 2022 at 6:26 PM ^
He really shouldn’t. If anything, for his poor handling of the Brandon Gibbons situation, should make him persona non grata on Michigan campus. He protected a sexual predator.
