Yay lots of points and yards with JJ
September 11th, 2022 at 12:25 AM ^
The offense is explosive with JJ.
With Cade, not so much, this is not complicated, JJ is the choice.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:35 AM ^
The offense was always more explosive with JJ. The problem was that sometimes it exploded in Michigan's face. If he's not making those mistakes now he's the clear choice.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:50 AM ^
Harbaugh says he's the starter for next week
September 11th, 2022 at 12:55 AM ^
It's not like JJ made a shit ton of mistakes you know, he played pretty damn well for a freshman playing part time.
The only one I remember is the fumble in EL.
September 11th, 2022 at 2:04 AM ^
He's a sophomore.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:07 AM ^
he meant last year, when he was playing as a true freshman.
September 11th, 2022 at 7:24 AM ^
That was on Corum
September 11th, 2022 at 8:11 AM ^
Nothing against Cade either, but people forget JJ had a higher QB rating than Cade last year as well, even with limited play calling.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:11 PM ^
Tell us about the times JJ’s play “exploded” in Michigan’s face. I must have amnesia.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:17 AM ^
Maybe it got past Cade's bedtime.
September 11th, 2022 at 3:14 PM ^
Good one. At least I appreciate humor.
September 11th, 2022 at 7:10 AM ^
McNamara is a competent Big 10 QB…and on his best day he could never do some of the things McCarthy did out there tonight. I give Harbaugh a lot of credit for orchestrating the change perfectly. Rather than simply naming McCarthy the starter, he allowed what happened on the field to make the correct decision obvious to everyone.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:48 AM ^
And as Harbaugh stated, JJ earned QB1 "by merit".
September 11th, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
JJ.
Warren.
Cade.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:41 AM ^
You’re right he forgot Bowman:
JJ
warren
Bowman
Cade
September 11th, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
Warren could end up #2 given his story.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:46 AM ^
I’m sure Cade stays with the amazing support he received from the fanbase since JJ got here.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:32 AM ^
Sickening, really. It actually kinda pissed me off when Cade got booed. He's the first QB to beat Ohio State in how long? He helped deliver Michigan's first Big Ten title in how long? The dude is a Michigan hero as far as I'm concerned.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:47 AM ^
Amen. Booing anybody wearing your own team's jersey is sickening. Booing a guy who accomplished what you described is repulsive.
If JJ is the better player, and gives the team a better chance of winning, then he should play. That's fair. But the doesn't mean that Cade is now some worthless stray dog that everybody gets to kick.
Have some class, people.
September 11th, 2022 at 10:20 AM ^
Who kicks stray dogs? The people booing should be kicked though!
I don't know what happened to Cade. He was better than this last year.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:47 PM ^
He's the first QB to beat Ohio State in how long? He helped deliver Michigan's first Big Ten title in how long? The dude is a Michigan hero as far as I'm concerned.
This was more a product of the team around him than anything Cade did. 159 yards and a pick isn’t good enough to beat OSU without a ton of help from the guys around you, and it’s certainly not going to put you in “Michigan hero” status. Haskins with his 5 TDs and Hutch with his 3 sacks deserve hero status.
Cade was a contributor on a great team that accomplished things we haven’t seen in quite a long time. He deserves some credit for that, and CERTAINLY doesn’t deserve to be booed. But those fans who were saying Cade should be the starter because of team accomplishments last year and calling him a hero or a legend are pretty off base as well. 15 TDs in 14 games isnt earning you legend or hero status.
September 11th, 2022 at 1:33 AM ^
Last week I got over 50 downvotes for saying Warren was more talented than Cade. I never even said better.
September 11th, 2022 at 1:55 AM ^
Timing is everything
September 11th, 2022 at 2:05 AM ^
That case is closed.
September 11th, 2022 at 6:17 AM ^
Fight club. What are you talking about?
September 11th, 2022 at 7:25 AM ^
Is so weird. Warren was better. Cade won't take risks.
September 11th, 2022 at 8:15 AM ^
Cade did throw downfield once last night when it was apparent he was severely struggling and it was underthrown and picked.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:27 AM ^
There is (at the time of writing) an every snap video for the offense against Hawaii. I am purely an fan, but what was apparent to me was the throws Cade made were a beat or two after when he looked like he should have thrown the ball. On one of the sacks, he had people open and instead of throwing, he turtled. On his interception he had a tight end WIDE open over the middle, and instead threw it into coverage. I am a big Cade fan, but he seemed to play tight or nervous last night, like he was constantly second guessing himself and that threw off his decision making.
September 11th, 2022 at 10:27 AM ^
The pass to Corum was late and led to Corum getting laid out.
September 11th, 2022 at 9:49 AM ^
Based on what we saw on the field last night, this is NOT a hot take!
September 11th, 2022 at 9:54 AM ^
Cade must have been broken by the Georgia game. He had always been conservative, but now he literally only checks down and will not see what's happening. In the Georgia game, you could see that Cade's horizon shrunk to like 10 yards from where he was standing, he was so sped up and nervous about the past rush. It just looks like his horizon has not expanded again, even though he is facing terrible competition.
So, the real Cade who was just responsibly careful but still knew what to do in the right circumstances is not here anymore. The team needs that Cade back, I hope as a group they are able to rebuild him soon.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
JJ time.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
J.J. McCarthy is your new starting quarterback.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:22 AM ^
That was a pretty decisive competition
September 11th, 2022 at 12:43 AM ^
Beyond decisive. Try to answer these questions -- what was JJ's worst play and what was Cade's best play?
September 11th, 2022 at 2:11 AM ^
Can't think like that. Honestly, it was Cade's comprehension of the offense vs McCarthy's as a freshman. JJ was an 18 year old kid, fresh out of high school. Once he learned the cadence, and the playbook...
Goodnight.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
Wonder what the odds are Cade isn't with a new team next season. Would love to keep him as a backup but realistically seems impossible.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:31 AM ^
It'd be nice, but understandable for him to go somewhere he gets starts. Just hope he's not bitter enough to go to staee.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:33 AM ^
Or *gasp* Iowa.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:41 AM ^
People keep saying that, but Cade would struggle so bad at Iowa. Iowa has a horrendous OL, no running game, and no weapons. That’s not a scenario where Cade succeeds.
Cade (should he leave) needs to go somewhere where he can play behind a competent OL with a solid run game. He’d be more successful somewhere like Illinois than he would Iowa.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:51 AM ^
What a crazy post.
You want to go to a place with a good running game and Oline.
Do go to Illinois dont go to Iowa.
Wow things have changed.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:58 AM ^
It’s just where things are at right now. Cade is a more than capable QB in the right situation, and I don’t know how anyone can watch Iowa football and think that’s a situation where Cade would succeed.
Now I’m not saying Illinois is the perfect spot or anything, but I’d rather play there than Iowa right now if I’m a game manager QB.
September 11th, 2022 at 1:03 AM ^
Rice is observing how insane it is that Illinois can reasonably be proposed as a better option for a Big Ten championship winning QB than Iowa.
Which is, indeed, insane. And may well be correct.
September 11th, 2022 at 1:06 AM ^
And cade would probably be the best QB Illinois has had since Jeff George
September 11th, 2022 at 8:53 AM ^
I think it will be very difficult for Iowa to get any talented QB to go there with Brian Ferentz as the OC. Their offense is anemic at best. Until they make a change, Iowa is school where QB's go to flame out.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:32 AM ^
Even Ohio State faces that. It is very hard to keep two top QBs on your roster in the Portal era.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:38 AM ^
If Cade doesn't start any games or see signficant playing time this season, I have a hard time seeing him stick around.
September 11th, 2022 at 12:46 AM ^
1. I want Cade to stay. 2. I want JJ to start 3. I think Cade should transfer (if he plans on trying to pursue football after college) 4. Notre Dame really needs a QB (and going from memory, I think Cade had ND at the top of his list during his recruitment)
