U-M Hockey vs American International - NCAAT Open Thread
We're #1! Overall seed, that is. So let's do that hockey.
Time: 3PM ET
Watch: ESPNU

Let's Go Blue! Crush the Yellow Jackets!
This week’s question: what is your favorite memory or funniest moment from the season so far?#GoBlue〽️ pic.twitter.com/X92BMC3ph2
— Michigan Hockey (@umichhockey) March 25, 2022
My funniest moment of the season was in February when OSU thought that they had a chance of winning the Big Ten and making the tournament
Thread-jacking to update the WMU vs Northeastern game, tied at 1 apiece and now going to overtime.
Western led the whole way until NE scored at approximately the 3:30 mark in the 3rd.
Other games besides that: UMass vs MN at 6PM ET, St Cloud St vs Quinnipiac at 8.
Plz let us score many goals. Giving up a late goal & going to OT = zoiks!.
And Western survives and advances, NE goalie out of position and wrap-around goal wins it for the Broncos.
Oh lord here we go again. With two years of no tournament due to covid, it's been a while since I've experienced some good NCAA tournament terror
Is there a stream?
Should be on the ESPN app
Ah good tip. I thought I had to have ESPNU on my normal cable to watch
You rock, thanks
I'm quite surprised this is Western's first tourney win ever. I know they haven't really been world destroyers historically, but zero wins prior to this? Wow
Great moment for the Broncos. Happy for them for sure.
Sort of surprising, but then this is only their 8th tournament appearance. That puts them 37th out of 56 teams that have appeared in the tournament all time. The last decade under Murray (plus the bookend single years of Blashill and now Ferschweiller) have has been solid for WMU but it's a little misleading historically speaking. Certainly their best period since the late 80s/early 90s.
Also they should have won in 2011 against Denver but gave up two late goals and lost in OT. That was a crushing loss.
Let this Glorious Wolverine Year CONTINUE...GO BLUE!!
LET'S GO TO WORK!
AND WE'RE LIVE IN FRONT OF OVER TWO HUNDRED FANS
Game on!
Damn, thought we had the opener, there.
Not an ideal start for AIC nearly giving up a goal and insta-icing it out of panic :45 in
quack........quack........quack.... quack..quack..quack..quack.quackquackquackquack
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
Michigan clearly the better team.
Yeah this is very apparent
No doubt. Their skill ability to gain the zone stick handling combined with how well they are cycling the puck deep is making this game look like it might get ugly fast.
That play by Hughes… I went from “noooo…” to “fuck yes!” in less than a second. Stickhandling through three guys from the blue line!
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!
Van Wyhe! 1-0 U-M!
GOOOOOALLLLL!! Another goal mostly created by Luke's puck handling
GOALLLLLL VW!!!
Sick move by Hughes but sort of a flukey bounce. We will take it! Let's go!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!
GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!
Edwards!! 2-0 U-M!!
YEEAHHHHHHH. 2-0!
Oh baby pour it on
EDWARDS GOALLLLL!!!
We want MOAR goals!!
Did we get a chance to do the first goal count before that?
edit: nope, still announcing the van whye goal.
What a start.
Those two early goals have brought my heart rate from 200 bpm to maybe 190
Well, that was fast!!! Stepped away for a couple minutes and missed it.
Hockey team making our layups!
We got that pivotal first early goa . . .
Holy shit, we got a second goal while I was typing about the first goal.
I better hit "save" quick.
This game should be at Yost. It would be electric
...as opposed to 90% empty seats at these neutral sites. The attendance for the Broncos game earlier was nearly non-existent.
NCAA isn't good at the maths.
There’s a simple rule: if Michigan can’t draw fans to the venue, we shouldn’t play at that venue. We fill basketball arenas in Wichita, San Antonio, LA, and DC. Hockey is too much of a niche sport to get fans to Allentown on a Friday afternoon.
Put the games on campus sites and reward teams for earning a top seed. It would be a better advertisement for the atmosphere of college hockey. The status quo embarrasses the sport.
FWIW, I was at the game in San Antonio last night. It was definitely not filled. :) I'd say Michigan and Nova fans were split about 50/50, but most people where UH, UA, or neutral.
Michigan also didn't fill Dallas in 2013 -- there were lots of empty seats to the Elite 8 game once the Kansas fans left town.
Hockey still shouldn't be in Allentown though. :)
Bingo Bango!!!
We are absolutely living next to their goal.
All of our possessions look like power plays.
Was thinking the same thing, can't watch it at all times, and when I look over I have to double-check if we are on the power play or not.
This looks like Michigan msu hockey.
These ESPN guys must have been toking something pre-game, were just babbling about Jimmy Page, Led Zep, and Luke Hughes 🥴
