December 9th, 2021 at 10:07 AM ^
I was going to yell at you for being snarky and purposefully leaving out the Peach Bowl -- but the site you linked did the exact same thing. It is a NY6 Bowl, though it is the 30th.

Unintentional Disrepekt is the best disrepekt
December 9th, 2021 at 10:19 AM ^
I feel like there's going to a handful of Spartan football fans who miss their "New Year's" bowl game because of this.
I'm okay with that
December 9th, 2021 at 10:53 AM ^
“Why ain’t it on today, pa? It’s says right hear on this picture machine that it’s a New Year’s 6 football game”
December 9th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
This is the kind of thing that makes Shartans livid. Love it.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:01 AM ^
One of these days, one of our more uh, um, "counting type" colleagues needs to create an interesting and thorough list of the various nicknames we use for the Shartans, Spurtins et al. plus Bucknuts, etc.
I'd take on the task but (insert excuse here) to do it. I'm pretty sure we have a few folks who like to count words ... ;-)
December 9th, 2021 at 2:01 PM ^
Or maybe not, since it is absolutely juvenile, and should be beneath us
December 9th, 2021 at 10:16 AM ^
That's weird. Branding! I guess it's better than "NY(+/-2 days)6" bowls
December 9th, 2021 at 10:16 AM ^
mea culpa!
The Googles tell me
December 30th Peach Bowl, Pitt v Inferiority Complex U @ 7:00 pm
December 9th, 2021 at 12:00 PM ^
I presume that Pitt's Heisman finalist is going to pass for at least 400 yards against Sparty's terrible pass defense. That could be an interesting matchup.
December 9th, 2021 at 12:05 PM ^
Pickett said he's not sure if he's going to play. Plus their OC just left for Nebraska.
December 9th, 2021 at 12:07 PM ^
Which will make it even more delicious when Pitt drops 400 yards on them through the air.
December 9th, 2021 at 1:16 PM ^
This may be the first time ever I will root for Pat "60 minutes of unnecessary roughness" Narduzzi (rolls off the tongue, right?)
December 9th, 2021 at 2:42 PM ^
An interesting move for Whipple. Nebraska must really be making over their offense. You wouldn't think Frost and Whipple would be a great match. I'm guessing it will be a much different offense when they come to Ann Arbor next year. Not sure they have a QB to execute it...yet.
December 9th, 2021 at 10:36 AM ^
This is a curious list - 5/6 of the "NY6" plus the Outback and Citrus Bowls.

Have you been living under a rock?
December 9th, 2021 at 10:18 AM ^
Could have been nicer about it but yeah this isn't new info. Only new thing seems to be the broadcasting lineups.
December 9th, 2021 at 10:08 AM ^
Thanks for posting. I'll be on Mountain Time so there will be plenty of time to get drunk before midnight regardless of the outcome of the game
December 9th, 2021 at 10:17 AM ^
I was hoping for the McDonough/Blackledge team for the game. I like them better than the Fowler/Herbstreit team. Oh well. Beat the dawgs. GO BLUE!
December 9th, 2021 at 10:54 AM ^
i see that girl who got dismissed twice by harbaugh isn't on mcdonough's team for their game. wonder if her eye rolls had something to do with that.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
She's on McDonough's team for the Cotton Bowl. UM gets the Fowler team.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:41 AM ^
you're right. i looked at the name of the last person on the list and went right past molly.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:24 AM ^
Fowler was the only guy I heard on ESPN to say that M should have been #1 and not Alabama. He said Alabama did not have good wins against many teams and their loss wasn't good. So, I like him... Herbstreit can be a hit or a miss and I hope he doesn't spew OSU bullshit. He is fair most times. We will see....
December 9th, 2021 at 11:32 AM ^
Back in 1998 Monotone McDonough spent most of the Nebraska - Tennessee game fellating the Huskers and promoting their case to be the national champion.
No, I haven't forgotten. :)
December 9th, 2021 at 10:27 AM ^
I thought the CFP/ESPN learned their lesson to stop scheduling games late on New Year's Eve... people often have plans.
December 9th, 2021 at 10:31 AM ^
Plans are made to be changed. If I did have plans, that all changed on December 4th around midnight when UM beat Iowa to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.
December 9th, 2021 at 10:48 AM ^
Agreed. While celebrating the team's victory this past Saturday, I had a conversation with my brother about how our NYE would look a little different this year, and didn't care one bit. Smaller gathering (likely at one of our houses instead of going to a friend's place), with meaningful football instead of crappy board games. We'll still have snack and booze.
Once you've reached your thirties and have kids NYE changes quite a bit.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:11 AM ^
I'm in my 50's so I would be staying home anyway, but this gives me a reason to open some beers and enjoy the night.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:22 AM ^
It gets worse as you get even older. Check the scores from time to time (if you wake up), record the game, and watch later. Or maybe not if the result is disappointing. (Hey, I'm 80!)
December 9th, 2021 at 10:50 AM ^
Football fans will find a way to watch football. It's the perfect excuse for me to stay in a save some change
December 9th, 2021 at 10:56 AM ^
Yeah, NYE is a bad day for the semifinals but they are sort of "stuck" there given this particular year's calendar.
The Rose/Sugar Bowls DEMAND (and have enough leverage that their demand will be met) that their games will always be on NYD (or January 2 if NYD is on a Sunday).
So those games are there. January 2 is an NFL Sunday. The previous Saturday isn't an option for the semis, being Christmas. So the semifinals, by default, basically need to be on December 31.
Things can be different in other years where the calendar falls differently.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
I'm not saying NYE day is a bad choice, but to have a game start at 730pm that day is a poor decision. Have one at 12pm and the other at 4pm. Easy.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:17 AM ^
NYE is a Friday. A lot of people will be at work at those times.
December 9th, 2021 at 3:02 PM ^
A lot of companies are giving people the 31st off since the first is a saturday.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
I haven't been "out" for NYE in years. We usually just do a family dinner with maybe my folks or the in-laws and get the kids into bed early and relax with a nice scotch or something. In bed by 11. Wake up the next morning and have family over for breakfast and then watch football. Too old for going out, even if it's at a friends. The older I get, the more I just enjoy a quiet, relaxing evening.
I'll probably work a half-day, close out my year-end books, and then turn on the games.
December 9th, 2021 at 3:47 PM ^
My girlfriend and i are going to an expensive, black tie event. I have to decide between recording the game and not getting laid for an indefinite period of time.
i choose watch the game the morning of Jan 1
December 9th, 2021 at 10:30 AM ^
The big question is will ESPN be able to cram as many commercials in the Orange Bowl as Fox did with the Big 10 championship.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:09 AM ^
Dear baby jesus I hope not. I cringe every time I see that we're on Fox.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
It seems like during the regular season abc/espn has way less commercials then fox. Since this is a playoff game, who knows what will happen.
December 9th, 2021 at 12:25 PM ^
As someone who has recorded the last couple games, I can say that while Fox has more commercial breaks, ABC/ESPN has longer commercial breaks. FOX is typically about 2.5 minutes, while ABC is 3. It gets a bit worse later in the game. The start of the 4th Quarter was the worst for the B1G championship -- There were about 5 commercial breaks in 20 minutes.
That said, the commercial breaks will be more and longer during the Orange Bowl, plus they have a longer halftime because of their extravaganza (IIRC).
December 9th, 2021 at 10:30 AM ^
Why on earth the Eastern Time Zone game is the later game and the Central Time Zone game is the earlier game I'll never understand. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
December 9th, 2021 at 10:32 AM ^
Because UM vs UGA sells more commercials than Bama vs Cincy.
December 9th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
The 11 am local time kickoff for the Fiesta should have the fans really pumped
December 9th, 2021 at 10:41 AM ^
Fiesta Bowl, Oklahoma State v FIg Things @1 pm
Haha
December 9th, 2021 at 11:02 AM ^
Sparty has to be butt hurt that Penn State got a NY6 game on Jan 1 and they won't have people watch their game on the 31st because of the two playoff games!!
December 9th, 2021 at 11:20 AM ^
Sparty plays on the 30th
December 9th, 2021 at 11:48 AM ^
Penn St does not have a NY6 game. Op is confused.
December 9th, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
My girlfriend is going to be very mad at me because I will have to change all of our plans so I can watch that game.
Why did it have to be new years eve ?
