They're just gonna move Manny Diaz's desk to the basement.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
But will he get to keep his stapler?
December 5th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
Old Swingline is a faithful servant.

The Miami Bobs fixed the glitch
December 5th, 2021 at 11:15 PM ^
Let’s just hope they don’t give him any matches or a lighter
December 5th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
Good.... I think College Football is better when Miami Is strong
December 5th, 2021 at 1:14 PM ^
Strong FSU and Miami makes ACC more interesting...
December 5th, 2021 at 1:51 PM ^
That begin the return of the phrase "Clemsoning", I hate dabo, what a pompous ass!
December 5th, 2021 at 2:09 PM ^
Strong Florida, FSU, and Miami keeps blue chip Florida kids away from Ohio State and makes Michigan more competitive
December 5th, 2021 at 2:29 PM ^
Strong FSU and Miami kicks Bama and the sec out of the sunshine state recruiting wise! Riley to SC is a huge deal because it will prevent Bama in large part of just picking a few 5 stars from California when he wants. They rattled off the big time players leaving California and have to think Riley knows he can lock down talent he will be loaded.
But that’s another huge job open, Oregon now…. Hmm who goes there.
December 5th, 2021 at 5:51 PM ^
Bama will still pull guys out of Florida and California as long as Saban is there.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
After those Utah games I don’t think there will be too many tears in Eugene over this.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
Utah probably helped the Miami administration shave a few million off the deal.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
I like it because that should cross Oregon off of Josh Conerly's list. USC and Washington still remain as our competition.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:26 PM ^
I'm curious if we kick the tires on cornerbacks Jalil Tucker and Jahlil Florence.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:29 PM ^
A looong way to go in that recruitment.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:53 PM ^
Watch for Chip Kelly to return to Oregon
December 5th, 2021 at 1:31 PM ^
I'd love to see them go after Lane Kiffin. That would be fun, IMO.
Although they should give Whittingham the ol' 10 year/$95M.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
Awesome! I hope he can finally pull them out of the abyss. College football is simply better when Miami (Fl.) is good.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:16 PM ^
Remember the 'Catholics vs. convicts' era?
December 5th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
I can’t find anything to corroborate this. Where you seeing it?
December 5th, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
A couple Miami Herald reports. Also Mike Ryan a producer for the" Dan Le Betard Show" is reporting it and he has been all over this story.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
Interesting year, 3 well known coaches leaving their schools for jobs at places that are roughly equivalent and not a clear step up the ladder. Money talking?
December 5th, 2021 at 1:11 PM ^
Miami is not a better job than Oregon. Miami hasn’t invested much into that program and they stadium is nowhere near campus.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:41 PM ^
The only way in which Miami is easier is that you're now in the talent rich state you poach from (Oregon typically gobbles up Cali kids) and your biggest competition is Clemson, who appears to be coming down from the mountain top, competitively speaking.
And USC is about to be a mega player again under Riley so he may also be avoiding getting stomped on by them every year. Oregon is definitely gonna be a big loser from this year's carousel
December 5th, 2021 at 2:09 PM ^
They also have to compete with FSU, which may seem laughable at the moment but that's a program that has won a national title within the last decade.
December 5th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
Money may have been a factor but there was likely more to it for each of these.
Brian Kelly didn't have a great relationship with the ND administration and portions of its fanbase and had been sniffing around for NFL jobs for a few years now. LSU isn't a pro job but it may offer him slightly better talent and he won't be judged on his religiosity.
Lincoln Riley was not in favor of Oklahoma joining the SEC. Now he'll coach a school in the Pac-12, located in a gold mine of football talent.
For Cristobal it's simple: he is from Miami.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:00 PM ^
It's going to be really weird when Manny Diaz picks up The Herald in the morning and finds this out...
December 5th, 2021 at 2:39 PM ^
(Miami AD phone rings)
”Hey, Boss. It’s Manny here. This is kinda weird, but I just logged in to send you a quick email about a story I saw in the Herald and I got a ‘Username not found’ error. Anyway, I called IT support and they said I should call you….”
December 5th, 2021 at 3:28 PM ^
There was a major administrative snafu in my organization. In a purge of obsolete user names from ALL systems they included names of anyone that was given a new title or was promoted. I spent days dancing delicately around the issue calling/emailing people to determine if they were or were not still with us. It happens.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:02 PM ^
There is absolutely an opportunity for a dominant team in Florida program to emerge.
All that fertile recruiting ground that made UF, Miami, and FSU good to great at the same time during the 90's and early 2000's still exists - they've all just been scooped up by UGA, BAMA, LSU, and OSU over the past 5-7 years.
Whichever school in the state of Florida gets its act together first (it looked like it was going to be UF, but now they are in flux) can very quickly become an elite program. With Miami playing in the weak ACC instead of the SEC, they can be poised to go on an elite run.
USC and Miami are the huge winners this coaching carousel, and both can become elite very quickly - and hopefully stop losing recruits to OSU!
That said, Miami has some structural and facility problems, including a stadium 15 miles off campus, which need be addressed.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:23 PM ^
Agree on Miami’s structural issues, but there’s no room to put a stadium anywhere near the campus. Coral Gables is small, well developed, and expensive.
December 5th, 2021 at 3:59 PM ^
Absolutely this. I think it's insane that all three of the big Florida programs are down at the same time given the number of big time recruits in that state. If just one of Miami, FSU, or Florida could break through it would really alter the CFB landscape since so many of the elite programs are built off Florida talent.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
Oregon's held up remarkably well over the last decade given how much coaching instability they've had. Whoever they hire will be their fifth head coach since 2009, and yet they've had just a couple of down seasons over that time. Phil Knight's money and wearing different uniforms every week apparently make a difference.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:24 PM ^
It probably helps they play in a conference with only one traditional football powerhouse which has been down pretty much through that entire time frame.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:48 PM ^
Yeah, Oregon hasn't had any luck keeping a coach. Kelly, Taggart, and Cristobal all left for "greener" pastures, and Helfrich was fired. Maybe they can find an alum who loves the program and values being an institutional man.
December 5th, 2021 at 8:20 PM ^
Cal's current coach Justin Wilcox fits that mold. He's an Oregon alum who was a 3 year starter. He's been up and down at Cal but beat Stanford and USC this year.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:13 PM ^
Cristobal is a fantastic recruiter. In-game coach? ehhh. Will be intriguing to see who Oregon goes to. both Oregon and UW have vacancies. That's insane.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:22 PM ^
UW does not have a vacancy...they hired the Fresno st. Coach
December 5th, 2021 at 1:24 PM ^
UDub hired Kalen DeBoer from Fresno State, so that's no longer a vacancy.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:32 PM ^
It seems the real winner in the coaching carousel is USC. I expect Riley to put together some elite recruiting classes and Notre Dame, Washington, and Oregon will also be under new management.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:27 PM ^
Makes perfect sense.
With Brett Venables likely heading to Oklahoma, Mario has an opportunity to build a resurgant Miami program that can compete against a weaker Clemson team.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:34 PM ^
There was a lot of smoke here with Moorehead leaving and the way Oregon collapsed at the end of the season. It seems like the focus wavered as the coaches were looking for other jobs.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
That's funny. I hadn't heard that Manny Diaz was fired.
Oregon is going to be a tire fire without an HC or an OC.
December 5th, 2021 at 2:14 PM ^
Love that picture.
December 5th, 2021 at 5:33 PM ^
This is actually a picture of East Lansing after a big loss, or wait, is it after a big win?
December 5th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Typical Wednesday
December 5th, 2021 at 2:00 PM ^
I guess he likes living in Miami better than Eugene. Oregon is the better job.
December 5th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
Oregon has some major advantages but 3 out of 4 of their previous coaches seem to disagree.
