Osu -7 opening line
November 21st, 2021 at 2:53 PM ^
Is 7 points more than 50?
(Asking for a friend.)
November 21st, 2021 at 2:55 PM ^
Wow. It should be at least 10.
November 21st, 2021 at 4:58 PM ^
Should it? OSU hasn't played a ranked opponent on the road yet.
November 21st, 2021 at 7:14 PM ^
The line will move to 8.5 - 9.5 by kickoff.
November 21st, 2021 at 8:05 PM ^
Michigan tried that once this year. And ended up losing.
November 21st, 2021 at 9:00 PM ^
We’ve only kept it close at home once under Harbaugh, and that was 2017 with John O’Korn (!!) when we lost 20-31. The other home games under Harbaugh have been 13-42 and 27-56. Playing in Ann Arbor doesn’t seem to have affected them too much.
November 21st, 2021 at 2:56 PM ^
Going to be interesting to see which way the line moves and by how much.
November 21st, 2021 at 2:57 PM ^
Feels like the line will widen after what OSU did to MSU; but what do I know.
November 21st, 2021 at 3:12 PM ^
Feels like the line will shorten after what we did to Maryland!
November 21st, 2021 at 3:10 PM ^
It will go to at least 10.
And I'll be doing my part!
I think osu -7 is a great bet and I'm taking a big position.
That way, if Michigan gets blown out, I'm not totally devastated, just mostly..........
With my luck, osu will win by 7.......
November 21st, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
We better either win, or lose by 20. My heart can’t take another close game that we lose.
November 21st, 2021 at 4:48 PM ^
I can't take another John O'Korn armpunt for no frikn reason.
November 21st, 2021 at 5:48 PM ^
Just a few threads ago the line was six, so it appears to already be moving.
November 21st, 2021 at 2:56 PM ^
We'll win. I'm kicking Gattis' ass myself if he doesn't run that outside run play with Corum that Oregon torched OSU over and over again with.
November 21st, 2021 at 2:58 PM ^
Assuming Corum can go
November 21st, 2021 at 3:00 PM ^
edwards should be able to run that just fine
November 21st, 2021 at 5:52 PM ^
And your proof is...??????
/s
November 21st, 2021 at 3:17 PM ^
You mean the one that got Coombs effectively relieved as Defensive Coordinator, and replaced by Matt Barnes? If you think that play will still trash OSU next week, you haven't been paying attention.
OSU's most consistent weakness on defense is short to intermediate routes straight down the middle. Their linebackers have struggled getting enough depth.
November 21st, 2021 at 4:51 PM ^
OK, so now we can hope for Gattis to call 2 plays!!!
November 21st, 2021 at 2:59 PM ^
Wow, awfully generous to us. I’d expect at least double digits.
Saying this now because if it happens it’ll be gutting and I’ll be in no mood to be philosophical: a 7-point loss would speak very well for the growth of the program this year.
November 21st, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
Didn’t we lose by single score in 17 and then get trashed in 18 & 19? Sounds to me we’re in the same position we we’ve been in with OSU for a long time.
win or bust
November 21st, 2021 at 4:48 PM ^
2017 was a one-score game nearly the entire way, and we had the ball down only 24-20 in the final minutes, but O'Korn airmailed an interception and OSU tacked on an insurance TD to finish 31-20.
November 21st, 2021 at 5:04 PM ^
Yeah, we're in a position where we haven't beaten OSU in ten years and they are clearly the superior program. Given where our program has been the last two years, and how it performed against OSU the year before that when we thought we had a good team, a 10-2 season with a close loss to OSU is... better than what anyone expected before the season started.
If you want to fire Harbaugh for losing to what may be the best team in the country this year, well, that's fine... but there might only be one coach in America (Nick Saban) who could have taken this year's roster and built a team that could beat Ohio State. Since Saban isn't coming, we've got to make do with what we have. And what we're looking for now are signs that the program is building to where it can beat Ohio State and compete on that level. The strategy right now has been to utilize young, hungry coordinators and staff guys, leveraging the one resource JH has in considerably greater abundance than most college coaches, a direct connection with a top NFL franchise.
I wanted him fired last year. He wasn't, but thankfully the program didn't just try the same stuff over again. So if/when we lose, I'm looking for progress.
November 21st, 2021 at 8:15 PM ^
Saban is a great coach but I would like to see what he could do with a roster not littered with 5 stars at every position.
November 21st, 2021 at 8:55 PM ^
We saw that when he coached Michigan St. He was a good , but not great coach.
November 21st, 2021 at 9:03 PM ^
Ohio State was down 0-14 in 2017. It was their largest comeback in the rivalry IIRC.
November 21st, 2021 at 3:00 PM ^
Lines that make no sense to the casual better I usually bet the unpopular idea . For instance last night Utah was -3 at home vs Top 5 Oregon. So I took Utah.
Yesterday #7 MSU +22 vs #3 OSU. I took OSU.
Next week I will take Michigan. Most casuals expected this line to open OSU -13ish.
November 21st, 2021 at 3:00 PM ^
I was thinking it would go up to about 11 given the way they obliterated MSU.
November 21st, 2021 at 3:09 PM ^
I saw it open at 6, get bet up to 8 in some places, now down to 7 or 7.5
Some fancystats:
SP+: OSU by ~5
FPI: OSU by ~4
PiRatings: OSU by ~11
Sportsline: OSU 33, UM 32
November 21st, 2021 at 3:21 PM ^
Beware the home dog.
November 21st, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
Not entirely shocked. It's in AA and is a rivalry game, both of which are more likely to push it towards being a close(er) game. I think a double digit line would have driven a lot of money to the Michigan side.
November 21st, 2021 at 3:41 PM ^
This line implies some faith in Michigan's defense.
November 21st, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
This line tells me it is not set entirely based on MSU score. It is also based on PSU game and others. They saw how M handled PSU receiving corps. We will see how this works out but will not be surprised with a Michigan win. I expect the line to move up as many are going to look at MSU and think OSU going to destroy M. I hope I didn't misunderstand how the lines work as I learned everything about lines on this site.
November 21st, 2021 at 7:22 PM ^
Vs PSU, Stroud was off and the team was undisciplined and had too many penalties and missed tackles. Neither of those are directly controllable by UM. If the moment gets too big for Stroud, it will be a slugfest. What is controllable, and will be the biggest factor in the game, is the pass rush by UM. If they can create hurries and disrupt the rhythm, it gives them a chance. They are going against two of the best OT’s in the country, but Day will need to scheme for both DE’s.
November 21st, 2021 at 3:56 PM ^
-7? Is John Cooper coaching this game?
November 21st, 2021 at 4:04 PM ^
I’ve figured out why Day has grown out his facial hair, it somewhat hides his fucked up lisp he has going on.
November 21st, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
And his rosey cheeks from being an alcoholic.
November 21st, 2021 at 4:31 PM ^
Hopefully he isn’t a wife beater too, he did work under Urbs
November 21st, 2021 at 5:14 PM ^
Michigan defense FEI was 14th versus 33rd for MSU
Michigan passing defense (NCAA) efficiency was 9th versus 77th for MSU.
Michigan can win with the appropriate game plan (what that is, I don't know.)
MSU does NOT belong in any conversation about the GAME between UM and OSU.
The statistical ratings have this game closer than recent games.
November 21st, 2021 at 6:15 PM ^
Easy money
November 21st, 2021 at 6:28 PM ^
Win the “Game”
November 21st, 2021 at 6:48 PM ^
That line is a suckers bet, we are gonna unleash our trail man coverage and bottle up those mesh concepts once and for all!
Or maybe I'm just trying to prevent the pain on game day
November 21st, 2021 at 6:52 PM ^
This team that we have, right here is the ceiling for JH. This is it. Enjoy it for what it is.
Whatever it takes to pull in all those 5 stars, it ain't happening here in AA.
It seems that Ju-Ju has left Clemson recently. That means there is some extra Ju-Ju out there floating around and it would be great if we could sop some of that up.
Whatever message needs to get out to the recruits, it needs to happen now before they latch onto other programs.
November 21st, 2021 at 7:44 PM ^
Presently, there are no signs of any positive latchings happening with the next class. Fair or unfair, right now the issue with recruiting is that it is soooooooooo easy to negative recruit against Michigan. Michigan needs to over-achieve (for once) and change the established paradigm.
November 21st, 2021 at 8:22 PM ^
This is a big test for Mcdonald. I believe JH will have a good game plan.
If they have really been focusing on OSU the whole year they'll have a good game plan. In the NFL it comes down to coaching. You have to have a great game plan every week. In college you can usually out talent teams. This is the game we got Mcdonald for and tossed Don brown away.
Watching the msu-osu game the wr's were open by 5 or more yards all game. If OSU is running open like that Saturday it'll be over quick. I'm hoping they can contain the big plays and keep the wr's in front of them and make them drive the field. It's more likely a mistake is made in an 8-10 play drive then a 3 play td drive.
November 21st, 2021 at 9:22 PM ^
I saw what you saw. It was very apparent that Dax Hill doesn't play for MSU last Saturday. MSU had a very large hole in the middle of the field that Michigan doesn't have. It will be interesting to see how Michigan lines up on both defense and offense.
November 21st, 2021 at 8:22 PM ^
-10 seems about right and that's OK by me as I never expected it to be that close a few weeks ago.
November 21st, 2021 at 9:07 PM ^
I thought it would open -15 OSU so this was a pleasant surprise. I’m considering throwing a sum of money on OSU in hopes I have something to be happy about (either a Michigan win or, if not that, at least a bit of extra $$). Still undecided on that, feels dirty to bet against M.
