Beat Northwestern
October 17th, 2021 at 11:29 AM ^
He is just trolling OSU at this point. They are clearly in the top 5, if not the top 3 and are very likely to be Big 10 champs. I love his spirt, but come on.
October 17th, 2021 at 11:35 AM ^
Ohio states best wins are Maryland and rutgers
Seems reasonable to wait for them to have a notable win before putting them above teams with better records and resumes
October 18th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
The big ten makes sure OSU plays a tough game after all Big Ten teams have played 2.
October 17th, 2021 at 11:35 AM ^
Really helps us a lot when he aggravates OSU. Sheesh!
October 17th, 2021 at 11:40 AM ^
lol. He's just trying to get more insurance salesmen unemployed.
October 17th, 2021 at 11:41 AM ^
This!!!
October 17th, 2021 at 11:56 AM ^
No. They are not. Clear top 5 are GA, AL, OK, Cincinnati, Oregon based on who they have beaten. So, no it is not clear if OSU is a clear top 5. If OSU beats MSU or PSU, then yeah.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:27 PM ^
I Don't think Oregon is worthy of top 5 right now, Verdall is out for the season and they've struggled against some average teams despite the OSU win.
No way in hell Iowa is worthy of being #7, they're lucky Clifford got hurt last week otherwise they lose that game by double digits, potentially.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:29 PM ^
You haven't seen Oregon play have you?
They lost to Stanford and were in tough with 1-5 Cal and an 0-4 walk-on filled Arizona. I won money on them not covering Cal.
They aren't a top 10 team let alone a top 5.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:29 PM ^
There is no clear top 5 at this point in the season. Is Oregon legitimate because they won at OSU, or are they the team that lost to Stanford and were one play away from OT with Cal?
October 17th, 2021 at 12:28 PM ^
How are they "clearly" in the top 5? The only team they played that is anywhere near "good", they lost to at home.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:30 PM ^
The rankings aren't intended to be predictive, at least not at this point in the season. No one thought Iowa was actually the second-best team in the country, but their season to date (before yesterday) justified it.
Our season to date justifies a top 10 ranking. Whether it still will come December remains to be seen.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:31 PM ^
Yep, all of this is comical as all of these rankings will have to be proven on the field. Right now, the only important thing is a team constantly improving as the season progresses
October 17th, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
Can someone please tell me why we are so interested in Brett McMurphy's AP ballot this year? Why has this become a weekly thread topic?
October 17th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
EC has his favorites. McMurphy, at least, is not as skanky as the "Our Lads" guy or "Nevadabuck" (Ken Stickney).
October 17th, 2021 at 11:58 AM ^
Trolling OSU is fun. Always. Bye week, bored. Heck we talked about TN trash with 100 plus comments. Why not this.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:25 PM ^
Because he has an ongoing feud with OSU. Remember, he was the one that blew up the Urban Meyer / Zach Smith stuff a few years ago. Does anyone in their right mind think Iowa is better than OSU ? Jesus, it's comical at best
October 17th, 2021 at 11:41 AM ^
Fueling the disrespek with MSU outside the top 10.
October 17th, 2021 at 11:58 AM ^
A lot of your comments are MSU based…
And you’re the guy that predicted UM would be 3-9 this year & were sticking to that even after beating Washington.
Fuck MIchigan State! Say it!!
October 17th, 2021 at 12:00 PM ^
You got a tunnel vision right there. I will say it for him. Fuck MSU.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:15 PM ^
Michigan fans (and close observers of college football generally) feeling compelled to say 'MSU is good' for at least two more weeks
October 17th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
I know he is trolling OSU but no way Iowa is better than OSU
October 17th, 2021 at 12:09 PM ^
well this has been transitive law kind of season. And Purdue did beat OSU when they were #2 in the nation. And since Purdue just beat Iowa. . .
s/
October 17th, 2021 at 12:20 PM ^
Why couldn't last year be the year of the transitive property?
We beat Rutgers, and Rutgers beat MSU, which means that we beat MSU. No one can convince me otherwise.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:19 PM ^
Agree but rankings should be résumé-based, not predictive. OSU's best win is probably at Minnesota. Which also happens to be Bowling Green's best win.
October 17th, 2021 at 4:59 PM ^
The fun part, everyone gets to prove it on the field in the next 6 weeks or so. That's when all of the cheap talk stops.
October 17th, 2021 at 11:58 AM ^
Unless McMurphy becomes the sole voter for the playoff, can we just wait until the polls come out to post about it?
Then everyone can look up who voted whichever team wherever.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:05 PM ^
LOL He has Michigan higher than O$U.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:23 PM ^
We're undefeated and they have a loss. That's fair enough.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:07 PM ^
October 17th, 2021 at 12:27 PM ^
If Cincinnati were in the B1G West, they would be one of the favorites for the division. If UC was in the East, they'd be right in the mix of contenders and likely finish 3rd-5th place.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:26 PM ^
Yes, one of the fallacies of the conference-based thinking in the past 15 or so years is that if you are in a tough conference, you therefore have a tough schedule. The SEC has played this trick for years: with an 8-game schedule in a 14-team conference, there is a high difficulty variance. Compare Iowa's schedule vs Indiana's (or Nebraska's) this season, for example.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
Not so sure about that. Me thinks the B1G is down this year. Will need to wait for the bowl games to see if that is true or not.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:19 PM ^
Oh yes the bowl games where all of your NFL bound star players sit and then everyone wonders why teams look like shit. It all comes down to who has key players playing as under classmen and who doesn’t.
October 17th, 2021 at 1:31 PM ^
I don't like bowl games as an arbiter of conference comparison. With most games played in the south and west, there is much more travel for both the north/east teams' players and fans. Plus there are so many players sitting out these days, it's more like a fun exhibition.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:09 PM ^
Like cotton candy, it's fun. Then it dissolves in your mouth.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
I think you're right. But at least he has Cincy at 4, ready to fall out of the Top 4, and Alabama at 2, which is probably where they belong. Jimbo Fisher has been obsessed with beating Nick Saban, even to the point of neglecting preparing for other teams. I don't think Alabama is going to lose again, not even to Georgia. But that game will be a tough one to call a winner in.
He has three BIG10 teams poised to be moved into the Top 4: M, OSU, and PSU. Any of the three win out, I could bet Cincy will be moved down, and the BIG10 will be in--even PSU with its one loss to Iowa. I don't think Cincy belongs in the playoffs, even if they are undefeated---schedule is weak.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:11 PM ^
If Michigan lost to the only top 25 team they played and then beat up on the bottom feeders, we would say they need to prove it against a good team. For some reason, we just automatically assume OSU is back on top. Maybe their QB can’t handle pressure and makes bad decisions. We don’t know because they’ve only played the bottom half of the league.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:11 PM ^
If that was my ballot I would swap the pair of Oregon/Ohio State and Iowa/Penn State. Iowa got outplayed badly yesterday. Why does he have Oklahoma State at 6? That seems high
October 17th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
Doesn't matter. It all comes down to field results in the future - plain and simple. The cream will rise to the top
October 17th, 2021 at 12:12 PM ^
How long will that ranking last? Asking for a concerned Michigan fan who knows this ranking is based on other very good teams losing vs Michigan having signature beat down wins.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:13 PM ^
Just. Win.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
Purdue beat the #2 out of #2
Best line I saw yesterday
October 17th, 2021 at 12:22 PM ^
Purdue Official Twitter liked it too
We just beat the No. 2 out of Iowa.

I love me some Murderwolves, but I need more proof that the defense can stand up to a top-flight offense before I'm buying into a top-ten rating. We would have problems scoring more than 25 points against an elite defense and it appears you can game-plan against our back 7 with a good passing attack.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:24 PM ^
Which ten teams do you buy over us?
October 17th, 2021 at 12:38 PM ^
If we beat MSU, comments will be "they are a boom or a bust kind of offense". We beat PSU, it will be "Well, Clifford wasn't himself if he plays at all". We just have to wait for OSU. At that point, no one is interested in these rankings. So, enjoy the ride. No need to crap on every team we beat.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:19 PM ^
It’s frankly amazing that we are standing here discussing a top 5 Michigan team after last year and expectations coming in to the season. It’s not been earned/proven yet and there is a lot of football to play but if you look at the schedule and squint you can see a sure win against NOrthwestern, likely wins against IU and Maryland, winnable games against MSU and PSU, and then of course there is The Game. There’s 100 ways they could lose any of these upcoming games, nothing is a gimme, but to say there’s a plausible way to see Michigan entering the OSU game unbeaten would have earned you a slap in the face in the offseason. It probably wont happen. But. It. might.
October 17th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
"A sure win against Northwestern ", but then "nothing is a gimme", isn't exactly equivalent.
While I think we will beat Northwestern, they did beat Rutger by a larger margin then we did.
Is anyone else concerned that Sparty has two weeks to prepare for us and we only have one to prepare for them?
