OT: Urban Meyer breakin' the law
Well, that didn't take long. Prior to even coaching his first game, Urban Meyer and the Jaguars have both been fined by the NFL for practicing. The 49ers and Cowboys and their respective coaches have also been fined for this, but half as much as the Jags. This was apparently first reported by Adam Shefter (Go Blue). The SI article gives much more detail than the one on ESPN, but, as a surprise to many, was not written by Michael Rosenberg.

Must be hard to coach with rules.
He does have extensive experience as a pro coach at UF and OSU, so that's a plus.
Yes, but he never had to deal with a salary cap before
I hope they weren't stretching for too long!
Urban gonna Urban.
Negged myself for spelling Schefter wrong.

I'm shocked
I am just shocked beyond belief that Michael Rosenberg didn't write an article about cheating by a former coach of Michigan's biggest rival.
Rosenberg is an alum too correct? Like many on this board only instead of MGoBlog posts his writings are national articles. Disgusting.
Urban is just giving us his greatest hits, first Tebow then rule breaking. Can't wait until it comes full circle and he is "retiring for health reasons" again!
I guess it depends on whether the cheerleaders have also started practicing early...
We have seen this movie before....
. . . then an ongoing string of felony arrests of his players . . .
Anybody that bought that "health BS" is just a total idiot or a fan (OSU) with blinders on.. How the hell can anyone take anything that comes out of Urban Scumbag's mouth anymore seriously ?
Whoops! Apparently my postings have some reflux.
Urban is not going to find he likes working with a union.
At least he doesn't have to take any players to the strip club. They're already there.
Urban liar doing urban liar stuff.
Urban liar doing urban liar stuff.
I like the way you subtly said he has done this repeatedly.
I found it interesting that his excuse was that he doesnt have as much time to practice in the NFL as he did in college. And here I thought the NCAA limited practice/stretching time? I guess not in Columbus.
In the pros, its all about the players.
In college, its all about the coaches
While certain exceptions apply, like a Bill Parcells, Bill Bellichick, players run the leagues as its all about the stars..
It will be interesting to see if the NIL alters that to any degree...
I mean I'm not even saying this with any bitterness, I've never been more convinced that a particular coach going from college to the NFL would fail more than Urban. He just has no clue what he signed up for. Hiring the disgraced Iowa S&C coach (a position that doesn't even matter in the NFL) and having to fire him in two days before the mutiny was fully under way was so insane, especially given his Ohio State run ended largely because of poor decision making in assistant coach hiring. Bringing Tebow in for a try out without considering what a massive distraction that would be and what resentment it would cause unnecessarily to bring in a 30+ year old fail out in.
And now he's got guys sending the union on him. He just has no concept that he's in a place where being the coach doesn't make you a God, you have to actually answer to people higher than you and you can't just cut everyone who doesn't bow down to you and replace them with 25 5 stars.
He wasn’t just any coach. He coached college football in Florida and Ohio. He lived as a god. Of course he wouldn’t adjust well to life as a mortal.
Can't find the BB episode where they talk through the video, but have to at least post the sound ...
To be fair, I believe these are the things he must do in order to have a remotely human feeling, so I think we need to consider it from that perspective.
Also, fuck him.
Whose Urban Meyer?
whose? Baker Mayfield can make a case.
Anyone surprised? A leopard (or should i say Jaguar in this case) doesn't change its spots.
I saw a tweet that Urban made his players do the Oklahoma drill the first day of practice lol
I know some people believe in theories that certain conference teams are more apt to get preferential treatment from the conference commissioner.
Maybe, maybe not. Maybe Urban has benefited from this in his career, maybe not.
But I do know this ---- the freaking JAGUARS are most definitely NOT going to get preferential treatment from the NFL office. They are the Rutgers of the NFL!
how much you wanna bet one of his players blew the whistle on him?
Contracts are valid at this level, coach.
Yeah this is not surprising the least bit. Pretty much every OSU fan knew his style wasn’t going to translate to the pros and he’d be getting fined for stuff like this. Bluesalt and dragonchild’s comments are spot on.
