Michigan vs. UCLA tips at 9:57 pm on Tuesday on TBS (Lucas Oil South).

I guess I know what I’ll be doing Wednesday morning
March 28th, 2021 at 11:17 PM ^
Trying to act like you're not so tired/hungover that you want to die?
March 29th, 2021 at 12:12 PM ^
Yes jerry yes.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:05 PM ^
Ugh, should be a crime to have games start that late.
I'm officially old now so I will be sleeping and not watching. The prospect of fours hours sleep outweighs my great desire to watch. These late games should be outlawed.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:07 PM ^
Gonzaga vs. Oregon/USC is the other Tuesday game and we get the late slot?
March 28th, 2021 at 11:09 PM ^
Surprised me as well as I'm sure it doesn't fit with a lot folks schedules, but that day it actually helps me as I had evening plans.

Same - we are leaving for vacation in Florida (from NY) tomorrow morning. The late start allows us to go out to a family dinner around 7, stop for ice cream on the way home, and make it back to our hotel room well before tipoff. After we won today, my son actually called our hotel to ask then what size the room TVs are and if they get TBS. Fairly certain if the hotel didn’t have TBS or a room TV over 50”, he would have lobbied to cancel the trip. He’s 13. Raised well.
this post won't get nearly the amount of love it deserves.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:35 PM ^
Of course it is...wow. How much sense does that make.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:07 PM ^
Ugh, that is late.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:09 PM ^
I feel like this favors UCLA a little, given they are West Coast team - that's like a 7pm game for them. Mid-week late round games are also really, really weird.
At any rate, survive and advance...Go Blue!
March 28th, 2021 at 11:46 PM ^
How long has UCLA been in Indianapolis? Isn't everyone pretty much on Eastern Time at this point?
March 29th, 2021 at 12:39 AM ^
Good point. And the time zone switch doesn't seem to have hurt P12 teams much. Seems like a non factor.
I suspect the late tip is to accommodate the west coast tv audience who want to watch UCLA. Higher ratings.
March 30th, 2021 at 10:53 AM ^
I'll take the trade off between being a west coast team playing late versus having home court advantage every day and twice on wednesday...
March 28th, 2021 at 11:09 PM ^
This works great for me. The 3-1/2 year old will be sound asleep at that time (I think). Daddy juice in hand and planted in front of the TV. Working from home and no meetings until Wednesday afternoon.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:10 PM ^
WTF
Why? USC-Gonzaga should be the late game with two West Coast teams in the West Bracket. Michigan is the #1 seed in the East bracket. We shouldn't be disadvantaged playing a Pac-12 team at 10 PM ET.
March 29th, 2021 at 10:08 AM ^
The sad fact is that most west coast inhabitants are actually fans of eastern/Midwest teams. On my daily walk through my Redondo Beach neighborhood, I pass 4 houses with M flags and 1 house with a “house divided” UCLA/USC flag.
That said, 10 PM tips are awful. It’s reminiscent of the pre Bird and Magic NBA where CHAMPIONSHIP playoff games were broadcast tape delayed at midnight. Come on, CBS, you can do better.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:10 PM ^
Ann Arbor/Michigan bars closing at 11 just lost so much money. Feel for them
March 28th, 2021 at 11:11 PM ^
Trying to get rid of our home court advantage? No way - Michigan will still represent!
March 28th, 2021 at 11:19 PM ^
I would think so! This team overcame a 3 week layoff and rolled on magnificently. I doubt a 9:57pm start is going to impact the team's focus.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:11 PM ^
Wow, even though the other game will have 2 west coast teams, they're saying we want UCLA/Michigan as the marquee game, figures.
I was hoping we'd be the earlier game.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:13 PM ^
perfect for us on the left coast
March 28th, 2021 at 11:13 PM ^
So they're starting a guaranteed west coast matchup at 4pm PST and half east coast matchup at 10pm EST? The NCAA is idiotic
March 28th, 2021 at 11:58 PM ^
While it is true that the NCAA is idiotic, this seems like a CBS decision. I don't get it.....but maybe they don't think anyone on the eastern half of the country will stay up to watch Gonzaga v USC
This is exactly it. They want everyone staying up for Michigan-UCLA to tune into Gonzaga-USC. If they flipped the games, too many people would go to bed after the first game.
I would 100% do that and I don't appreciate CBS making me stay up past my bedtime. I'm old
Agreed, I don't appreciate their stupid camera angles either.
CBS used to be the standard at March Madness, now TRU TV has passed them by.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:14 PM ^
I'm gonna be high as hell celebrating our victory at midnight
March 28th, 2021 at 11:17 PM ^
This reminds me of a thought I had earlier this weekend of what Michigan lost as a #1 seed during this pandemic. If this tournament had been run as originally planned, Michigan would have had as the #1 seed in the East:
- 1st and 2nd round games at home at LCA in Detroit
- Sweet 16 and Regional Finals at Barclays Center in Brooklyn where they would have had the strongest fan support of the teams in that region. And definitely no tip-off time at 10 PM ET.
- Final Four in Indianapolis
We are playing an 11 seed play-in team for the Final Four.
I'm at peace.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:20 PM ^
What the hell, man?
March 28th, 2021 at 11:22 PM ^
Ugh. Oh well. You know what's worse than a late-night tip when you have to be up at 5 the next morning?
Going to bed early because your team isn't playing anymore like fans of every other Big Ten team.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:24 PM ^
The haters will be up rooting against us especially with a trip to the Final Four on the line. Would be the biggest MSU win of the season if UCLA were to win. LOL
March 28th, 2021 at 11:28 PM ^
Well, at least my commute on Wednesday is 6 steps instead of the hour it was in the before times
March 28th, 2021 at 11:22 PM ^
Even more glad this week is spring break.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:23 PM ^
Why is there only two games and one starts at god damn 10pm? That’s just stupid.
March 28th, 2021 at 11:58 PM ^
This reminds me of three years ago when Poole hit the game winner against Houston in the Sweet 16. That game was the very last game of the day. Didn't start until after 10 p.m. There were several teams from the west coast who played their games earlier in that day despite the fact they're three hours behind us and it would have made obvious sense to have THEM get the later start times.
March 29th, 2021 at 12:59 AM ^
Michigan is a guaranteed ratings draw, particularly east of the Mississippi. If you were in charge of TBS’s scheduling, you’re putting them in the dog slot. We can bitch all we want, but we’ll all be watching.
I woke up my whole house when he hit that shot.
They were not happy. But I was.
Actually, Poole hit the game winner against Houston in the round of 32 (to get to the Sweet 16).
March 28th, 2021 at 11:25 PM ^
On a school night?
As a teacher, I feel this deeply. I'm usually in bed an hour before this game will tip-off, so 3 less hours of sleep isn't ideal. Looks like a sick day with the brown bottle flu on Wednesday!
March 28th, 2021 at 11:29 PM ^
Fucckkkkkkkkkk that, especially with the other game having two West Coast teams. So bad for so many fans.
Maybe (probably) I'm being selfish because I have a 6AM ET flight on Wednesday morning, but ughhhhhhhhhhh
March 28th, 2021 at 11:37 PM ^
No not selfish, I'm in Central time working from home and I'm annoyed (although my work day does start in ET)

I have an early meeting Wednesday morning.
:(
It will be a happy kind of tired.
