Movies - Surprise Michigan Scenes
I was watching ‘The Lake House’ tonight with my girlfriend and got an unexpected moment of excitement when they flashed to a U of M game on the tv within the movie. It had Chris Hutchinson (#97) prominently displayed.
That brought the question to mind about other movies where a cutaway scene features our favorite University. Anyone have any suggestions on movies that should get a watch simply because they represent The Team, The Team, The Team?

Isn't that Last Man Standing?

There's a difference?
You see, one has sons, and the other one has daughters.
Similarly, there's one of Dave Coulier wearing a Michigan hockey jersey on Full House. His usual jersey was the Red Wings one, but I know he wore a Michigan jersey at least once. I think I took a screenshot one time, but can't find it now and can't find it on a google image search
Edit: aha - Michigan hockey used it once on facebook. Best I can do https://www.facebook.com/MichiganHockey/posts/cutitout-dave-coulier-uncle-joey-has-been-added-to-the-roster-for-the-alumni-gam/10154042673181039/
That's awesome. Anyone know if Danny ends up getting back together with Vicky on this final season of Fuller House?
maybe after her jail term is up for that fraud last year.
I think you're getting mixed up with the other Wake up San Francisco host. She's in Nebraska with Uncle Jesse's family this season
The Big Chill. A lot more than a cutaway scene.
Yes. Too bad the movie is unwatchable at times.
I know you are getting down voted, and I probably will too for my next statement, but I agree.
As someone who is about to turn 40 and first watched this movie around 5 years ago, I really did not get it at all. It felt like a bunch of super successful people struggling with how they "sold out" to their hippy ideals from college.
Felt like a very Baby Boomer type problem to have a hard time not being super successful. Haha. I'm not the highest brow film critic though, but as a late generation x or early millenial, it just wasn't relatable to my experiences, like it was written for a very specific time period and generation who experienced life that way.
The Big Chill was the first thing I thought of too.
There's also an extended scene where the Michigan football game is on (against MSU, John Wangler is the quarterback, he completes a long pass that gets called back on a clip) and Michael (Jeff Goldblum's character) complains that Michigan has the ugliest helmets in the world.
No self respecting Michigan grad would call our helmets ugly. Tom Berenger’s character getting pissed off at the call was great.
The Pink Panther Strikes Again, around 1976. There's a scene where Gerald Ford is watching a game in the Oval Office, maybe even against Ohio State. There's another scene when he's woken up in the middle of the night by a phone call, and when he flicks on the light, we see that the lamps have block M's on the shades.
Also a mention of Gerald Ford (quite complimentary, mainly about his looks lol) and his playing at Michigan in one of the last couple episodes of Space Force on Netflix!
Saw that episode last night. Didn't know he was known for his looks.
He called this look "Blue Steel" and the other one "MagnUM".
Spoilers
There was this movie where we beat OSU
However, I can't remember it
Not a movie, but 60 Minutes had a shot of the '18 NCAA Championship Game tonight during a story about San Antonio.
Here is a pretty obscure one that I am pretty sure a Michigan game was featured: "Wheels" a TV miniseries with Rock Hudson.

Who can forget that time Michigan experimented with the towel boy? Oof.
Chris O'Donnell, The Chamber!!
The Good Place!
Well she is from Michigan. Glad she's representing!
So is her husband, Dax Shepard (Milford).
U of M plays a significant role in Lost:

Can't believe no one mentioned Grosse Pointe Blank and Gran Tarino, but you did say surprise scenes.
So Transformers a few scenes from a few movies filmed in downtown Detroit. Easy to spot.
Also the new Red Dawn. That is right downtown. Fun fact, it was originally supposed to be China invading but the US started getting into it with them, so they changed the invaders to the Koreans. I worked downtown and it was fascinating to watch them change out flags and lettering throughout the area they were filming. Down by Campus Martius Park, up Michigan Ave.
The Island was filmed in downtown Detroit and featured the Michigan Central Station.
Youth In Revolt was filmed in AA and all over Michigan, so was Whip It.
I miss the film subsidy.
Not a U of M sighting but scenes in Jumper were set in Ann Arbor. I recognized the Ann Arbor public library and apparently they also filmed at Huron High.
The writer, David S Goyer is a Huron High grad.
There is actually a scene in a “local bar” and it has an old Michigan - PSU game on.
michigan and bo had minor roles in the program
Minor role? Michigan led by Heisman candidate Tim Wayman went straight into Wolf Den Stadium and ruined both ESU’s national title hopes and Joe Kane’s Heisman hopes!
Hardly a minor role!
Jumper and Five Year Engagement both shot in AA.
The Five Year Engagement was a pretty damn funny movie. I also enjoyed all the covers of Van Morrison songs.
Also, the San Francisco apartment scenes were shot in a loft in Detroit.
Not a movie, but an early episode of "The West Wing" takes place on the Friday before the UM / Notre Dame game. Bartlett, a rabid ND grad, is talking to Leo just before boarding Air Force One. The roar of the engines makes it difficult to hear, so Bartlett interrupts Leo to repeat what he just said (and have a little fun at UM's expense). But Leo, of course, always came ready to play:
Bartlett: You didn't say 'Michigan sucks'?
Leo: No, sir.
Bartlett: I thought you said 'Michigan sucks.'
Leo: No, sir. We're standing pretty close to the engines so it may have sounded like I said, 'Notre Dame is gonna get the ass-kicking they so richly deserve.'
there is another time where CJ takes a shot at a lawyer for being a Wolverine
Not a movie but in Entourage, I like how Ari Gold brags about how he went to Harvard and has a law degree from Michigan.
I'm pretty sure Conan O'Brien's physician is a Michigan grad:
(Note the wall hangings behind his head in the first scene)
Garrett Moore (played by Gregory Jbara, Westland native), a character in Blue Bloods, is occasionally seen in UM garb.
Answer This is filmed entirely at Michigan and features a well known professor who’s name escapes me right now.
