2 Crystal Ball notes in last 24 hours
NJ 4* DE Aaron Armitage has had a rush of picks for Stanford including a few flips. One of which was formerly in for Michigan. While sifting through our prospects I see a lot of guys on the offensive side but not much on the defensive side. So any guy we were in on who was noteworthy that drifts away hurts even more.
One good note is T.J. Guy the 3* DE who is announcing today has had a flood of ballz go in for Michigan.

I think we've learned in the last week that crystal balls are worthless.

Michigan to Stanford CB flips are always accurate. Michigan can’t seem to beat out the Cardinal for anyone over the past decade.
April 17th, 2020 at 11:47 AM ^
Mullings is the one win I can think of.

The amount of guys we lose to Stanford is really frustrating. But I also kinda can't blame them
Couldn't agree more. Equal or better education, great coach, and good to great weather from August through April. People underestimate how awful the weather is in Ann Arbor for a majority of the school year. Its basically gray, cold, and cloudy from Mid Oct to Mid April.
For those of us not from SE Michigan, its a real shock to the system. Give me the sunshine all day.
I did some work in South Bay last year from December to May and I couldn't believe how great the weather was -- and yet the locals were bitching about it like they lived at the north pole.
It gets down to 50!!!! Oh my. Time to break out the Patagonia parkas and wool hats.

I learned this lesson the hard way following Zach Harrison's recruitment: By far the most important crystal ball is the next one. You could have 20 crystal balls already in and all for the same team, its that 21st one that can change everything.
April 17th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
Not only are they worthless, they’re also fragile and uncomfortable. Don’t even think about riding a bike. Or LeBron’s d*ck.
Maybe Crystal Balls aren't worthless. Consider the possibility that we may well be able to declare ourselves Crystal Ball Champions. I can picture the banner now...
Some are, sure. Everyone misses, but Trieu, Wiltfong, and Lorenz are all incredibly accurate with their balls. Trieu and Wiltfong are in the 90%+ and Lorenz is in the 80s, I believe.
we should create a new system. Based on Sam Webb's gut feelings. I like the idea of using Antacid tablets. . .
OT: Peach Crown Royal is amazing. . .

Not sure how another 3 star on defense is a good note.
April 17th, 2020 at 12:06 PM ^
Right. Who would want another Kwity Paye or Khalake Hudson. Give me more Ondre Pipkins and Will Campbells!!!!
Focusing in the recruiting rankings of an individual recruit is a pretty weak platform to stand on. Individually, you don’t know how the kid is going to turn out. If the whole class is mid three stars, then you worry because the odds decrease. But taking 3-4 mid three stars while you fill your class with top 300 kids and high theee stars isn’t something to scoff at. In fact, that’s literally how Clemson built their program.
April 17th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
The key word there is another, you are correct that a few 3 stars each class is just fine. The problem is that currently the defensive recruiting is about to be 3 for 3 on 3 stars all well below being even top 500.
It ain't just one 3 star on defense. We are on pace to have quite a few three stars in this class. As we can see with the last five years, we need to improve our recruiting to reach our goals.
Right. And how many wins vs OSU does this model have for us?
April 17th, 2020 at 11:20 AM ^
OSU could legitimately start a 5 star at every position on offense in 2021 and 2022. They just hung 63 and 56 on us the last two years. Here's Harbaugh defensive recruiting so far:
Casey Phinney #938 (no other power 5 offers)
Domincik Guidice NR (no other power 5 offers)
TJ Guy #798 (beat out Pitt and Syracuse)
And people wonder these games aren't close. How is this acceptable at MICHIGAN? How? How can anyone be ok with this?
I think our defensive staff is full of terrible recruiters and should be broomed. I like what Jim has done with the offense, but we're never going to keep up with OSU if they're scoring 50 on us every year.

That may be, but at least I didn’t sleep with Lumberg.

Why are people negging this? He is right.
April 17th, 2020 at 11:27 AM ^
Because it's really fucking whiny

Nah it's really fucking accurate.

It's also fucking April. The class isnt done yet. Check back in December, or 20 new accounts from now, whatever comes first.
Maizen gonna maizen.
Aww baby need a bottle?
April 17th, 2020 at 11:27 AM ^
Because it’s maizen. He can change his name but it’s still the same crap over and over again
April 17th, 2020 at 11:28 AM ^
Because it’s akin to agreeing with Hitler or Bin Ladin. Who cares what he says? He’s a bastard. Neg him.
April 17th, 2020 at 11:28 AM ^
Because no one on the forum is a Michigan football scout. Your comments are nauseating.

Is this one of Maizen's "safe" accounts (one he uses for points to prop up his bitch 'n whine accounts)? Look at the name (*maizen*blue92). Impressively early join date if that's the case .....
April 17th, 2020 at 11:54 AM ^
Because there's ways of voicing your displeasure without it always being a whiny rant. And he never makes any positive comment. When we land a 5* it's only because ND and OSU passed on him. When we land a top 100 guy, no comment. When we get a guy who is 500th and shoots up to being a top247 guy, no comment

I'm starting to think he is the most successful and dedicated troll ever to grace this blog's waters. The laser focus on OSU recruiting, cherry-picked data to fit narratives, same points raised ad nauseum, only posting in threads that would generate a flame war, etc. It's brilliant in a perverse way.
April 17th, 2020 at 12:20 PM ^
"It's brilliant in a perverse way."
I don't regard OCD problems as perverse or brilliant—they're uncontrollable patterns of mental behaviors with a wide range of individual manifestations that can be "merely" irritating or severely debilitating.
"OCD compulsions are repetitive behaviors that you feel driven to perform. These repetitive behaviors or mental acts are meant to reduce anxiety related to your obsessions or prevent something bad from happening. However, engaging in the compulsions brings no pleasure and may offer only a temporary relief from anxiety."
In any event, professional medical counseling should be sought.
April 17th, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
It's being negged because he's assuming ALL OF US don't already know how important recruiting is and that we don't look at the stars/rankings for every recruit. We do. We probably look at their rankings before we even look at their name.
It's borderline pandering and frustrating. It's like stating the obvious when the obvious is a very unlikable, although true statement. Nobody needs to be reminded of previous games to get your point across.
So Maizen upvotes Harmon1. Count me as surprised.
April 17th, 2020 at 11:47 AM ^
Harbaugh addressed the fact that we were at a schematic disadvantage trying to defend against the Ryan Day-era Buckeyes by hiring 2 coaches with DC experience to help out Don Brown. Our previous defensive assistants were good recruiters but didn't seem to influence the structure of the defense. We'll know if this was a good decision by December.

Scheme isn't going to help OSU's 5 stars running by our 3 stars.

Damnit Shaun, why dont you take yourself and all your other accounts and go over 11W then? Go be a buckeye fan and stop posting here.
Michigan hasn’t been, isnt now, and won’t be, at the level OSU is.
Look at almost any stat the last ... say .... 60+ years. OSU is ahead of Michigan on most almost all of them.
I went back to 1954 just as a random starting point. OSU is 39-25-2 head to head. OSU has 7 National Titles, Michigan has 1. OSU has 30 conference titles, Michigan has 22 (and none since 2004). OSU has 5 Heisman winners to Michigan’s 2. In fact, I couldn’t find a single personal award (Lombardi, Maxwell, Dosk Walker etc.) that Michigan has more of than OSU in that span. In most cases, it’s 3-1 in favor of OSU. Historically, OSU has won more games and had better players overall since WW2.
Prior to the current streak, did Michigan used to beat OSU 40% of the time? Sure.
But you are absolutely fucking delusional to look at what OSU is doing now, and has been doing for 65 years, and set that as the benchmark for what Michigan SHOULD be doing. Michigan hasn’t been on OSUs level since WW2 and the only reason OSU isn’t even farther ahead even more highly thought of is because Michigan (with an 8-2 or 7-3 record) used to beat them here and there and very likely prevented OSU winning more national titles and having the most national titles in NCAA history.
You are unwell and in all honesty, have way too much invested in the actions of college kids playing an amateur sport .... it isn’t normal or healthy to care this much.
Im not sure if I agree with Harbaugh. You can have the beat scheme in the world. If the other team is more talented, you are going to lose unless you get msu rainstorm luck.
April 17th, 2020 at 11:52 AM ^
OSU had 20 more 4-5* guys on their roster in 2019. The 2020 squad will have more, around 25.
It will only be luck or a miracle if UM is competitive next season.
OSU currently has the #1 2021 class in the country.
Michigan is not going to catch Ohio. They are gone. They are no longer a measuring stick for me. But if Harbaugh and Co. continue to lose bowl games, I'll be ready for some change. Bowls are really the only prize Michigan football can get in the current Big Ten with the massive cockblock that is OSU.

Now this is what I call the Doom and Gloom crowd.
April 17th, 2020 at 12:09 PM ^
Now go look at the scouting reports for the kids from the recruiting sites. It’s a whole lot of “we haven’t really evaluated him yet.” So... idk... maybe we should trust our coaching staff that has... ya know... evaluated the kids already...
April 17th, 2020 at 11:26 AM ^
The crystal ball change for Armitage has to do with the fact that he released a top 5 that doesn’t include presumed favorites Michigan, PSU, or ND. It has LSU, Florida, Stanford, Oregon, and USC.
April 17th, 2020 at 11:55 AM ^
Wait what? That's very weird
April 17th, 2020 at 12:17 PM ^
Maybe he hates winter?
Apparently he wants to get very far away from New Jersey.
The flight to FL and MI are about the same length from NJ.

Since when do crystal balls mean anything anymore?
