Video Games: What are you playing?
The remake of my all time favorite video game (Final Fantasy 7) came out today.
I'm still waiting for my copy to get here, I live in the middle of nowhere without high speed internet so digital download was out of the question.
I'm super excited to play through midgar in a fully functional 3 dimensional world.
What are you guys playing?

Call of duty, minecraft, super mega baseball 2, and heroes of might and magic 3. All fantastic games.

MAME Emulator. Classic arcade games from my youth in the early 80s.
I also found a Commodore 64 emulator, which has access to some pretty cool games I remember playing at my cousin's house (he had a C64).
I don't play a lot of modern games. Most of the campaigns are just too long. I don't have three hours to sit down and run through things like I used to. I was a big Resident Evil and Silent Hill fan back in the day, too, but I'd rather just run through some quickies with game that take me back to the days of arcades and Chuck E. Cheese's (back when it was a LOT better).
Oh, I've got Munchman and Parsec on my phone (TI games). Strongly recommended for when you're stuck in that meeting with the speaker who doesn't know when to wrap up.

They recently remastered Resident Evil 3, to great acclaim...you can beat the whole thing in under 3-4 hours!

I built a raspberry pi arcade machine a few years ago and recently got a "nintendo" style box for a raspberry pi to play MAME games on. Images are readily available online. My kids and I have a great time. At Christmas we had an Atari "Outlaw" tournament. Amazing how much fun you can have with the simplest game.

what do you use for a controller? I've had one built for a while, but never really utilize it b/c hooking up my Switch Pro controller to it is a pain...
April 10th, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
I built a raspberry pi last year and I use a wireless Nintendo Switch controller. It was pretty easy to set up and I own a Switch, so it worked out well
Huh for some reason I couldn't get it to work...have a link on a guide so I can give it another go?
I bought a simple bluetooth receiver that I can connect old xbox 360 controllers with. Rasberry PI is sweet.
For the arcade I have an X-Arcade controller, but then later built my own with buttons and joysticks I ordered online.
For the "Nintendo" solution I bought this which came with controllers, as well as these N64-esque controllers. I had hooked up my PS4 controller wirelessly, but it was sort of a pain and I wanted to use it with my PS4. Wired controllers are less funky and bring back some of that old school charm.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Kart, tons of online board games.
FF VII is the best video game of all time. I like to play with Cloud in SSBU even though he's not best character (Zero Suit Samus).
EDIT: The wife and I still play Balloon Fight pretty often.

Got the new Crash Team Racing game for the PS4 and it's pretty good if you were into the original from 20 years ago.
I also still like playing Grand Theft Auto V and stirring up trouble at the strip club. The bouncers there can be brutal sometimes.

For fans of Fallout, some of the original developers recently made "The Outer Worlds" and it's super good. It's like Fallout 3 but in space. Super funny, too.
I'm also doing the Switch port of Dark Souls, mixed feelings so far.

Ahh so I see you're someone who handles frustration a whole lot better than I attempting Dark Souls!

Getting through Bloodborne was simultaneously one of the best and worst gaming experiences of my life. If anyone's considering Dark Souls on Switch, don't bother unless you have a pro controller. I find it completely unplayable otherwise.

My wife has been absolutely enveloped by Animal Crossing...which I wholesomely knew would happen, and glad since she's a nurse and it's been a great stress relieve for her.
I've been playing a lot of Rocket League and this new office puzzle-solver by Nintendo called "Good Job."
Currently building my first gaming PC with my Trump-Bux, waiting on the last couple pieces in the mail, and then I will be going in on the Witcher 3, and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord (basically a souped up Age of Empires).
Let me know if you need help with your first build... I've been building enthusiast water cooled PCs for years.
Also... try Mount & Blade Multiplayer... that's where the real excitement is!!!

NCAA 14. I'm able to recruit nothing but four and five stars. Punters/Kickers have to walk-on. None of this #1200 recruit stuff. I crush OSU every single year.
It's a great break from reality

haha respect...we all need escapes from reality from time to time for the betterment of our mental health!

King Knight, the fourth installment of the Shovel Knight series. It's like Mega Man's successor. I'm doing it on the PC so I don't have a standard NES controller . It's proving to be quite difficult to do it that way.

coming from a lifelong Zelda fan, it was the sole reason I bought a Switch on release date (my first console since PS2)...it honestly got me back into video games after a long pause throughout college. It's not perfect, but the only game since I was very young to completely take over my life and warrant 5-8 hour play sessions. I took Friday's off of work for that game, just so I could play all weekend. It's magic...enjoy!
Seriously cannot wait for BOTW 2 (fingers crossed for Holiday 2020!!!)

BOTW is the greatest 1-person game I've ever played. I beat it weeks ago and still greatly enjoy just running around the world exploring. It's gorgeous.
Most people love it. Few people don't like it. I think it's one of the best games I've ever played. It's very likely that you'll dig it.
It is the first main line Zelda I haven't finished. I put probably 30-40 hours in and beat two of the Divine Beasts. Just kinda...lost interest after that. Life got busy and have never went back.
Conversely, it is the first Zelda my 11 y/o beat and he absolutely adores it.
Amazing game. Like many others, the only reason I bought a switch. Now the wife and I are on animal crossing. She played it as a kid, I had my doubts but it is addicting! Accept I would like to kill Tom Nook for putting me into debt for his fucking island...
Yes, it's a very interesting game. I also like simulator racing, as it gives a kind of adrenaline. I've seen a big television project about that while preparing my college paper on how it affects students' academic performance. This article [SPAM LINK DELETED] is also good enough for those who want to more about this kind of game. Actually, playing games is a kind of relaxation.

Madden, NBA 2K20, UFC3, RDR2, COD: Warzone, Halo: Guardians, Destiny 2, Assassins Creed: Oddysey. A few of those were just recent sales that had them going for <10$ so why not. I find myself often spending more time downloading games than playing.

Glad to see Destiny 2 somewhere in the comments. It’s my main game and as I’m home now I’ve got a ton of playtime in. Built the PC just for D2.
Played Destiny 2 for a while after it first came out, but just became too much of a repetitive grind to get slightly better weapons for me.
i play CoD Warzone now, but mainly cause it’s a chance to socialize with my buddies for a few hours 3/4 times a week.
If I’m playing solo, I usually play some FIFA, NBA 2k, or the Show.
Destiny 2 is literally the only game I play, but I’m on Xbox.

In recent months I have started to go through my Steam library and play the games I bought on a whim during a sale and never got around to. This includes the BioShock series and the 2017 version of Prey.
I also bought some older games on sale on GOG, and have gotten about half way through Dead Space.
April 10th, 2020 at 12:24 PM ^
I couldn't get into Bioshock and never played Prey, but Dead Space is one of the most terrifying game series ever.
Prey is also in the aliens have taken over our space station genre. Not as terrifying as Dead Space but I thought it was very well done.

The Bioshock games are seriously some of the best story based games ever made. Prey was also really fun

Witcher 3 expansion packs. I put the game down for a while, but after watching the Netflix series I picked it back up again. I am currently working through Blood and Wine, which is awesome. After putting the kids to bed, I play the game and put on a Netflix comedy special on my phone, then pause the special whenever there is dialogue in the game. It is a great combination, and a great way to unwind at the end of a stressful day.
My kids and I still play Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Brothers. On Mario Kart, we are almost ready to unlock Funky Kong. With Super Smash Brothers, I almost never lose with Kirby. We had to install a no Kirby rule to make it fair.
Blood& Wine here as well. I'm probably 200 hrs into the game and haven't done the Hearts of Stone expansion. I've been playing for like 6 mos.
Just finished B&W. It's fantastic. Still have a alternate story line to try and lots of side quests. The whole game is mind boggling expansive, the expansion packs have more content than lots of games. Have you read the books? They're pretty good too.
Will probably go back and replay Horizon Zero Dawn too.
I read the first two because that is what the Netflix series was based on and then kept going. I have almost finished Blood of Elves, and am waiting for the digital copy of the next book from the library. The show makes way more sense after reading the books.
Also, I found a great strategy for Gwent using the Skellega deck in the expansion. It is my go to deck now.

I have played nothing but Madden 20 for about two months now (I play about ten hours a week because I am still working and my son demands most of mine and my wife's time when we're not working).
Before that, I was playing Middle Earth: Shadow of War. The series is a lot of fun, especially when it comes to building your orc army.
I typically play more story-driven, single-player games (Fallout, Middle Earth, Assasin's Creed, etc.), but enjoy the CoDs and Halos.
April 10th, 2020 at 12:45 PM ^
I think Middle Earth is going to be my next game after I finish Witcher 3. I want to play the Middle Earth games in order. Is one better than the other, or are they both good games?
I thought they were both excellent with a really interesting story-arc. As is the case with many series, the gameplay was a little bit better in Shadow of War (second installment) than it was in Shadow of Mordor. I would describe it as Assassin's Creed with a Lord of the Rings skin and an awesome army-building component. I spent hours building up my army of orcs and increasing their experience levels. That was probably my favorite aspect of both games.
Edit: I am not sure if this is the case for PS4 or PC players, but if you wait for the seemingly constant Xbox Live sales, both Middle Earth games with all the DLCs (Game of the Year editions) are dirt cheap. I got Shadow of Mordor GoY for $5.00 and Shadow of War GOY for $15.00 during Black Friday and I've seen those same prices multiple times in the last few months during other Xbox Live sales.
Edit II: Shadow of Mordor GoY is currently $9.99 and Shadow of Mordor Definitive is $17.99
