The Masters postponed
With opens to play at a later date
The Masters has been played in April every year since 1945. It was canceled from 1943-45 due to World War II.

Another reknown ultra-liberal organization over-reacting to the "flu".
March 13th, 2020 at 11:06 AM ^
This has got to be total sarcasm.
Either that or you’re one of the dumbest, most ignorant, low-IQ people to ever actually figure out how to turn on and use a computer, then access a blog.
Calling Augusta National, a place that allowed their first ever female member a mere 7.5 years ago, and ultra-liberal organization is like calling Bernie Sanders a Breitbart/Federalist Consarvative.
March 13th, 2020 at 12:42 PM ^
Imma gonna go with it was sarcasm.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:25 AM ^
The amount of people that can’t identify obvious sarcasm always baffles me.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:32 AM ^
Obvious sarcasm is very rarely that obvious in todays politicized climate
March 13th, 2020 at 11:57 AM ^
Nah, it was pretty fucking obvious.
March 13th, 2020 at 12:02 PM ^
If calling Augusta ultra-liberal didn’t make this clear I feel sorry for how confusing the world must be all the time for those people.
March 13th, 2020 at 12:45 PM ^
Maybe not to people who are also highly politicized.
March 13th, 2020 at 12:58 PM ^
How to identify very obvious sarcasm
if your choices are:
1. Sarcasm
2. Writer is “ one of the dumbest, most ignorant, low-IQ people to ever actually figure out how to turn on and use a computer, then access a blog”
Give the writer the benefit of the doubt and assume sarcasm.
Otherwise you risk making yourself look like “one of the dumbest, most ignorant, low-IQ people to ever actually figure out how to turn on and use a computer, then access a blog”.

Stick that political shit up your ass ! If you want to go there , we knew almost 4 weeks ago and didn’t do shit !

Something else was sucking up all of the political discussion and media air time at the beginning of February.
If the US didn't do shit, what did Europe & the Middle East do?

Are you talking about CBS?
March 13th, 2020 at 10:50 AM ^
Yes, but are you still the "Master of your Domain?"
March 13th, 2020 at 12:43 PM ^
For the sake of accuracy, this was a different episode.
March 13th, 2020 at 10:56 AM ^
Ya know, this really grinds my gears. I look forward to the Masters every April. It means it’s about time for me to start hitting the courses agai .
March 13th, 2020 at 10:58 AM ^
I was taking things in stride up to this point, now I'm bummed.
A tradition unlike any other, it's right there in the tagline people! It should have special rules.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:10 AM ^
Meh, it was going to happen anyway. At this point, I'd rather they just knock all of these cancellations out in one fell swoop so I get all of my rage and sadness out of my system straight away, vs. letting them all trickle out over the next few weeks/months and letting us just bleed to death.
Fuck off, 2020. Fuck right off and never come back. This is all like one never-ending nightmare that I'm still waiting to wake up from.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:15 AM ^
Well, wait until the election cycle really kicks in. Your nightmare is about to get worse.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:50 AM ^
There won't be one.
Stop telepathically controlling me Putin.
March 13th, 2020 at 12:40 PM ^
The selection has already been made, you just haven’t had your feel good moment yet.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:14 AM ^
First the final four, now the masters. Thoughts & prayers for Jim Nance....
edit: Nantz, son-of-a.....
March 13th, 2020 at 11:50 AM ^
Jim Nantz too!
March 13th, 2020 at 12:41 PM ^
Nantz will be at his home course Cypress Point. Hard to feel sorry for him.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:14 AM ^
This one hurts the most. The idea of that tournament and Augusta National is what gets me through the winter every year. I'm pretty sure they will play it, just maybe later in May or June. As far as working it in to the rest of the PGA schedule, I don't think they'll give it a lot of thought. When the Masters says they are hosting their tournament, everybody will drop everything and show up - and they know it.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:17 AM ^
If there is any sport where social distancing exists, it's golf.
Let them play without the crowds and televise it from a blimp.
I don't think it the actual golf that is the problem. It is the travel, where do they stay and what do they eat?
Edit: They should just sequester an area around the course, move the golfers and necessary support crew in (course maintenance, cooks...) and keep everyone else out. Bring raw food in and let it sit untouched for 3 days before preparing meals with it. Then keep playing the same course week after week until this thing abates and then let everyone out.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:20 AM ^
Let’s keep the non-stop panic going.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:39 AM ^
With all of sports now being cancelled, maybe people will be forced to go out and live their own lives a little. Imagine that, living a little instead of watching other people do it all the time.
March 13th, 2020 at 11:44 AM ^
I thought the whole point was that we were not supposed to go out???
March 13th, 2020 at 11:52 AM ^
You can go out, but only like this...
March 13th, 2020 at 11:56 AM ^
Indeed.
I read a story today about some flummoxed public health official who just couldn't understand that when colleges closed, the college students got together and had parties. His explanation was that maybe the reasoning for the closures just wasn't explained very well.
My explanation is that college students are college students, and that this should have been entirely foreseeable. "College students act like they're invincible" is hardly a new concept. The only place that social distancing seems to have had much of an effect is China, where it was enforced with guns.
March 13th, 2020 at 12:42 PM ^
They don't care if they get together and have parties. As long as the university is not liable for it.
Yes, it is only much later that one learns that they are only immortal for a limited time.
I must have been at least a demigod to survive what I did in college. Now I'm barely mortal by Thursday.

Dang it April 12th is my birthday and I was looking forward to seeing the final round, arrgh!

Domino effect. Masters was held during Swine flu in 2010 after near 60 million were infected and 1200 plus deaths already.
Add NASCAR to the list, next two races now cancelled.
XFL done for the season, too

Speculation on when they would re-schedule it:
1) May --- but they moved the PGA Championship there starting last year. Plus, there's the potential that's still too early as we emerge from this.
2) June & July have majors of their own, of course.
3) August --- possible, they could theoretically move some of the Playoff events back. NBC broadcasts the last 2 playoff events, and they have limited afternoon football TV commitments in September (just Notre Dame games). But Augusta, Georgia in August has rather uncomfortable weather.
4) September and beyond --- that's going to interfere with football. CBS has both the SEC and NFL, of course.
I'd guess it would be August, which is typically a pretty sleepy TV sports month. They would have to avoid the Olympics, of course, too.
March 13th, 2020 at 12:42 PM ^
I think they'll want to do it as soon as possible, no matter what. The Masters is the smallest major and most self-sufficient, they can do it without spectators. So as long as the golfers, caddies, broadcasters and officials say they'll go, the tournament can go on. I would expect it to be on by June if not earlier. They can bump or cancel the PGA and US Open to accommodate. July and August will be tougher since many players will travel for the Open and Olympics, though I guess assuming international travel is back by then is optimistic.
March 13th, 2020 at 12:43 PM ^
Move the pga back. It stinks in may.
Agree, it is the PGA that will likely be moved.
I would think as soon as possible. Augusta National closes for the summer every year so I would think they would want it before the end of spring, or maybe fall, when it usually opens back up.
Doubt Augusta National would hold the event in July or August. The Rye grass that they over seed would be dying off leaving the Bermuda grass. Also many of the flowers would no linger be in bloom. Of course they grow them in hot houses and transplant them for the cameras now so I guess they could do later too. They are so concerned about image I bet they would just skip it rather than show a course that looks closer to course you and I play. Just a hunch.
WHAT DID WE DO TO YOU 2020!!!!
For sports fans, this is going to be one awfully boring early spring with everything cancelled. I'm going to have to find a few more hobbies or read more books.
