PSA: Strong downpour and cold winds expected for Saturday night
As I'm sure we'll hear in greater detail from our resident meteorologist soon, the forecast is calling for heavy rain and strong (chilly) wind for Saturday late afternoon/evening this weekend - just in time for the UM-ND game! Fun!
Plan accordingly if you want to tailgate or have a passing offense.

That’s perfect for us. We can get a big lead early because we start fast and Harbaugh is known to call a great rain game......oops

Deformation rain?
XM--- did you used to write for The Twilight Zone or for The Outer Limits?
October 24th, 2019 at 8:25 AM ^
Tell me again how this is not 2017 all over again lol even the weather
October 24th, 2019 at 8:45 AM ^
actually, it might be like that nov 4, 2017 game vs. minnesota when we had biblical downpours that delayed the game start about 4 hours.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:10 AM ^
That was already a scheduled night game wasn't it? I thought kickoff was delayed about an hour.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:27 AM ^
Gotta have these prime time night games late fall Midwest, rain doesn’t hit south east michigan til after 3pm, maybe should just have a noon game
October 24th, 2019 at 8:28 AM ^
WU is calling for a 94% chance of rain at gametime and 99% by 9pm. From 2pm to 6am the next day there is greater than a 50% chance of rain the entire time and calling for a total of .72 to .9 inches of rain depending on what weather service you look at.
It's hard to tell this far out as that is a good bit of rain but if that gets spread out over 10 hours it's not terrible for the players. If it's an inch of rain between 9pm and 11pm that kind sucks.
I think this is one where it is going to be shittier for fans that players. It's could do be a long, cold, steady rain on and off all day especially 6pm-11pm but seems like the could be light enough to still run a semi normal gameplan as of now.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:34 AM ^
Hotel Putingrad needs to order up some cloud seeding so it stays dry for the game!
October 24th, 2019 at 8:39 AM ^
That’s not how it works.
First you have to bribe him. Then you get weather.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:38 AM ^
Somehow the Michigan coaching staff won’t be aware of the impending rain, will be losing early, then proceed to throw the ball every play in a torrential downpour. Or perhaps they’ve learned from MSU 2017.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:24 AM ^
Unfortunately, this staff preps for each game with a blank slate, remembering nothing from previous outings; conditions, tendancies, mismatches, personnel, etc..., are thrown out the window.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:39 AM ^
Let's make sure we only try to pass in the heaviest of downpours.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:43 AM ^
That sucks I really wanted to enjoy watching this game to see the offense play well finally.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:43 AM ^
Snowed here in Denver last night. 2 days to come your way seems about right.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:44 AM ^
Bummer. Hopefully no delays from thunder storms.

I live in Atlanta but I'll be in Ann Arbor this weekend's game. I grew up in SE Michigan. This area may be one of the most difficult to forecast weather in the nation because of the low and mid-level dynamics that actually shape the weather we experience on the ground.
NWS forecasters are hedging the timing of rain. It all depends on how quickly a high pressure area - responsible for today's and probably tomorrow's nice weather - moves east far enough to pull a band of moist air into SE Michigan that will sit just south of Michigan/Ohio line for most of the day on Saturday.
The SE corner of MI (Detroit metro area) is going to see rain first; areas to the west will see it later and maybe much later Saturday night. A deluge from thunderstorms is unlikely - I'm seeing < 1/2 inch (0.38) in the NWS forecast from 7pm to 9pm, probably less the farther W you go. I think it will be wet during some portion of the game but it won't be a wash-out....... caveat forecasting wx in SE MI is hard.

Do you live in Atlanta because you work at the Weather Channel?
October 24th, 2019 at 10:53 AM ^
Minor weather buff, here, though it sounds like you're more of a pro. Anyway, that was my take, as well. Looks like what we'd normally call a rainy evening.
October 24th, 2019 at 8:19 PM ^
Jeff B! Is that you from Liney's U of M Forum?
I just posted a comment over there on the U of M---ND thread, I instantly recognized every last one of the participants in that thread. I was especially happy to see that Liney is back.
Do you and the other M-Borgers (including the gentleman from Indy) still tailgate at Lindy's Lot?
October 24th, 2019 at 8:51 AM ^
Hopefully, the forecast will improve by Saturday p.m. Although seeing where it's Thursday, the odds of it changing drastically are getting less.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:19 AM ^
The weather forecast will change 1/2 dozen times between now and Saturday evening.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:21 AM ^
Do not like this forecast at all!
October 24th, 2019 at 9:40 AM ^
It can be rainy/windy at noon though, too. Even if the game time is called 12 days out (about the latest they will be I believe), there's still a lot of variance in what can happen with the weather.
I will say the weather patterns as we switch to mid and late fall do tend to favor long-duration, steady rain events rather than earlier in the season, when it may storm for a short time but then usually recover faster.
October 24th, 2019 at 9:39 AM ^
I hate fucking night games - especially later in the fall. This is stupid
October 24th, 2019 at 10:30 AM ^
I hate Notre Dame in the daylight, twilight, or dark of night! Rain, snow, sleet, or sunny, I hate ND!
October 24th, 2019 at 9:39 AM ^
The way god intended football to be played. The forward pass is an abomination!
October 24th, 2019 at 9:45 AM ^
Given ND's reliance on passing this might work to our advantage.
We just need to avoid falling into an early hole and we can probably grind out an ugly win with 3.5 yards per carry.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:06 AM ^
I would say gamewise, this helps us because ND doesn’t run the QB
October 24th, 2019 at 10:08 AM ^
At least Brian Kelly will have purple skin for a different reason Saturday night.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:13 AM ^
More fumbles woo!
October 24th, 2019 at 10:20 AM ^
Not looking good ... swirling winds with gusts to 20 mph, wind chill at around 40 degrees, heavy rain starting around end of first half ending after midnight.
Late October night games are high risk for bad weather. Compare day game conditions - 12noon forecast is light breeze (5-7 mph), 50 degrees and chance of rain 30% towards end of game.
Toe meets leather best at 12noon ... especially in late-October thru November !
October 24th, 2019 at 12:43 PM ^
This is basically what I said earlier in the thread and got negged viscously for it. ?♂️
October 24th, 2019 at 5:16 PM ^
Was the negbang that thick?
October 24th, 2019 at 10:23 AM ^
Why do people have to steal thunder from others?
See what I did there?
If we already HAVE a weather person, why do we need this? I mean, MgoWeather has found a purpose, a reason for living, a THING to latch onto to gain fame and fortune, lots of posting points, and make its parents proud!
And some jumpy poster, trying to be first, has to ruin it.
How will Mgoweather face the weekend now?
October 24th, 2019 at 10:24 AM ^
But of course it would happen.....
October 24th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
Am I the only one that think this helps us? ND has a big play offense, we're more methodical and steady. Bad weather helps us IMO.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
Oh good, our biggest recruiting weekend of the year is going to have shit atmosphere
October 24th, 2019 at 10:29 AM ^
There was a great atmosphere for the MSU game in 2017. Bad weather doesn't mean bad atmosphere.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:29 AM ^
Of course- Notre Dame will adjust to the weather, while Michigan will now try to open up the pass game in a monsoon. Don't know why I think this, but maybe it is dejavu.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:43 AM ^
this time of year a 3:30 kickoff turns into a night game by half time anyways. I'm so done with 7:30 or later kickoffs.
I'll see my old ass out...
October 24th, 2019 at 10:54 AM ^
This is just the remnants of Dantini's Weather Machine.
October 24th, 2019 at 11:38 AM ^
As long as it doesn't thunderstorm or downpour - that's football weather.
Night games under the lights are the best - the big house will be a rockin...!
October 24th, 2019 at 11:57 AM ^
Does anyone know how heavy the rain is supposed to be? Asking for us degenerates.
October 24th, 2019 at 12:06 PM ^
Im curious about two things:
1) If the weather sucks, will it not suck for Notre Dame as well?
B) Does Touchdown Jesus root for Notre Dame if they are not in South Bend?

So glad I saw this. I was thinking about driving up for the game but my nice comfy couch and large TV screen seem like a much better option now.
October 24th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. This will be my first game in 10 years.
October 24th, 2019 at 3:29 PM ^
October 24th, 2019 at 4:29 PM ^
Oh good, just when I was getting over a cold, an opportunity to catch another one.
All I want is a win so I can at least cough up another lung while drunk and happy.
October 24th, 2019 at 4:36 PM ^
Yes. A win cures all ills.
