PSU Gouged Patterson's Eye in Pile
I mean we all know piles can get nasty, but I gotta agree with Runyan here that eye gouging seems a bit much
October 23rd, 2019 at 9:58 AM ^
Yeah, you could see his eye was all puffy and red after that play. That's a bush league move. Time to get a shield.

Several of us saw it immediately and were commenting on the open thread.
A man's eyes are basically/almost his life. That should be an expulsion-level offense.
"“… The refs came up to me and asked if I was alright. ’Yeah, yeah, I’m good. Just almost got my eye ripped out of my socket.’ I guess that’s just part of football.”"
--Patterson
It may be a part of it as it is. But there are some things that should not be a part of it.

Yeah - I mean this isn't the 70s Raiders we're talking about here. I would expect that from them, not from a program that has enough dirty scandals on it to last a lifetime.
Part of me wishes that Michigan - Mason or Runyan or Ruiz - would've responded by twisting a guy's nuts off. Show those creeps Michigan won't put up with that stuff.

Maybe football needs enforcers like hockey.
After a play like the one in question a reserve FB or guard goes in and chops the offending opposing player. He would draw a penalty and get ejected, but so what. Message sent.
October 23rd, 2019 at 2:13 PM ^
actually back in the day it would be certain offensive lineman in the tunnel picking up full gatorade jugs over their heads and throwing them at the offending players.
The message is sent and no penalties issued.

DNA could confirm who done it. In playing football you aren't totally insulated from charges especially if we are talking purposeful attempt against life limb or eyesight after the play.

Had the same thing happen to me as QB on the bottom of the pile during games. Poke your eyes, pinch you, grab your dick, anything to try and get you flustered. I had to start wear a visor to get to stop happening.
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:03 AM ^
pinch you, grab your dick
sounds like my kind of party
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:06 AM ^
That was foreplay with my ex

Your ex had a dick?

Yes PLEASE
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:04 AM ^
Grab your dick? Dang humblebrag. No way youd be able to get to my thing through football pants unless I had just watched an especially exciting fullback dive.
October 23rd, 2019 at 11:08 AM ^
Well he was a QB ...
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:09 AM ^
I mean poking I can see, could even happen without the defender purposely doing it, but being described as gouging is what made me do a double take. Would you describe what happened to you as gouging?
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:20 AM ^
Well it sure as hell didn’t seem like it was on accident! They dug at them pretty good. It was bullshit and they did end up getting caught and kicked out of a game. All the teams in the conference got a fax that the refs would be looking extra for it from then on.
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:11 AM ^
grab your dick... wear a visor to get to stop happening.
Kind of an odd place to put a visor, but whatever works, I guess....
EDIT: on topic, though, you do always hear the stories of all the crazy things that go on in a pile - the punching, scratching, grabbing, etc.
October 23rd, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
Is there any BITING? That would complete the circle, and well, completely turn on a lot of S&M folks!
Need a new name... PILE STAR!
October 23rd, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
Kind of hard to bite someone with a facemask in the way.
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:12 AM ^
Grabbing dicks at the bottom of a pile. Sounds like we have some real winners in the sport of football.
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:37 AM ^
The problem is there is typically no real consequences for stuff like this. Hell, Kash Daniel at Kentucky had an obvious ankle twist on Kyle Trask. Right out in the open and he wasn't going to be disciplined at all until a new video came out with an angle that showed how bad it was. His "punishment" was not starting the first series of the next game and not going out for pregame coin toss.
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:39 AM ^
i didn't mind getting my dick grabbed. it was pinching and twisting my triceps that set me off
October 23rd, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
I think I would be completely opposite. But to each his own....
October 23rd, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
Set you off or got you off?
Not kink-shaming, just want to be clear about this.
October 23rd, 2019 at 7:33 PM ^
I guess for me whether or not I like my dick grabbed depends who's doing the grabbing.
October 23rd, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
I had the same experience walking into a bar in Thailand.
October 23rd, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
Happened at the pro level too. Story I recall one of the old Hogs (Redskins’ famed OL during their heyday) was Joe Jacoby (I think?) in a pileup after the defense recovered a fumble. Had his hand in the guy’s crotch and apparently started to squeeze.
“Mark (May I think), you got the football yet? No...?” *squeezes harder*
“...okay Joe, got it”
October 23rd, 2019 at 3:17 PM ^
OH Niiiiiiice....
That was just a love tap... or pinch/grab!
What's a little groping among fellow athletes?
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:00 AM ^
I am sure this happens at the bottom of every pile both in College and the Pros, but still no bueno.
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:06 AM ^
No wonder his accuracy improved!
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:12 AM ^
Harbaugh will resort to eye gouging instead of shoulder pad smacking for the pre-game hype-up.

From now on, need a Curly, Moe and Larry huddle to pump up Shea. He's a warrior, he's definitely fighting which has me thinking differently about him lately. Been a tough year.

yeah, #8 Marquis Wilson is only a FR at Pedo St. I'm looking forward to some retribution in AA next year
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:33 AM ^
I kind of wondered if that hit on the last play of the game wasn't a little payback.
October 23rd, 2019 at 12:30 PM ^
I just re-watched the last minute to see what you were talking about but couldn't find anything..
What happened?
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:31 AM ^
Dirty as hell, but I hate seeing our players still complaining about the refs, that’s not a good culture, that game is over, we didn’t make enough plays to win, get ready for Notre Dame.
Even the Lions stopped complaining about the Green Bay game calls bus the next day.
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:35 AM ^
I don't think there really complaining it, Runyan wasn't too happy about it but he also said it's not like the refs can see it so its whatever.
October 23rd, 2019 at 11:44 AM ^
There are 11 players on the field trying to stop the other team from making plays. They practice all week led by professional coaches on stopping the other guys from making plays. Then they make a play and officials blow a call and we lament that the players (who in this instance are one of the few involved in game participation that aren't paid as professionals) didnt make enough plays and that the referees will make human errors.
Take the high road since it is a tough game to officiate and one cant be expected to see everything. Gotta make more plays next week. All the while nobody is actively trying to prevent the officials from seeing what happens and calling the game correctly. Yes let's take the high road and give the professional referees the benefit of grace while we blame the amateur athlete for not making enough plays.
October 23rd, 2019 at 11:58 AM ^
IDK how we are supposed to just ignore the refs when blown calls can be so crucial. "We didn't make enough plays to win" might not even be true if the game is called correctly.

Shea wore a visor during his time at Ole Miss.
Maybe it's time for it to make a return?
