Would You Be Satisfied With The Season if UM Won Out?
So hypothetical let's say the team can build on the positive things we saw against PSU and wins out including a miraculous upset of OSU. Would you be satisfied with the season if that happened, even if it did not result in a conference title? I lean towards yes because 10-2 is a good record given the schedule, they would have beat all their rivals, and at least changed a couple of the narratives surrounding the program coming into the year.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
Yeah? We beat all our rivals and go 10-2. That's satisfying. Easy question.
Hell, I'd be fine with a loss to ND if we beat MSU/OSU.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:56 AM ^
Ditto, I'd be fine with 9-3 if we took out MSU and OSU. The schedule we play this year is brutal. The Big 10 East is no joke and then we get Wisky and Iowa in crossovers.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
Underrated comment.
Nobody was talking much about how brutal of a schedule this was before the season started. I wa a bit shocked that Brian had picked 11-1 based on the schedule alone. Even with a perfect installation of Gattis' offense it was going to be a long shot to make it through with 2 losses or less.
It's even worse because Wisconsin is far better than we expected at the start of the year, and PSU is also a bit better than we had expected. And unfortunately for us, we had them both on the road this year.
October 21st, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
It wasn’t a crazy expectation to me. Wisconsin being this good was the only hard one to predict.
We should have beaten PSU, so that prediction was valid.
We should still beat ND and MSU. Those predictions remain valid.
So 11-1 prediction still doesn’t seem like an unreasonable thing for someone to have predicted. If we knew Wisconsin was going to be so good, then 10-2 would have been a better call.

The book hasn’t been written on how good Wi is yet. The lose to IL and the top ranked D has played against offenses rankled generally 80tj or worst. Check back after their road game this week, back to back losses would knock them out if the world beater ranks. I don’t think they are conference championship level, I think they took advantage of us having a bad week and exposed our Dline. We will know on Saturday.
October 21st, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
Doesn't get better next year either. We A) open at Washington and B) play Wisconsin-Penn St-Michigan state back-to-back-to-back without a bye.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
I’d be thrilled. I’m expecting losses to ND and OSU. Anything better than that will be great. Anything worse will be shit.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:22 PM ^
Ditto.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:26 PM ^
Hell yes!
OT: I am jealous of your screen name.
anyone know any good Chuck Norris jokes?
October 21st, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
You don't tell jokes about Chuck Norris. You laugh at Chuck Norris' control of the universe.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
Don't laugh too hard - Chuck Norris might think you're laughing at him...
October 21st, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
Count me in as well
October 21st, 2019 at 7:39 PM ^
This x 1000. Nailed it.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
Uh, yes?
October 21st, 2019 at 12:13 PM ^
At this point, who wouldn't? I think a lot of people picked this team to finish right about there before the season started.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
Beating ND, MSU and OSU and finishing 10-2 with the only two losses on the road to likely other 10 wins teams would be very good season even if it didn't result in a title.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:22 PM ^
This scenario would basically be Michigan's best season in the last 20 or so years, so uh yeah. I'll take it?
October 21st, 2019 at 1:00 PM ^
And it's always a possibility that strong play resulting in wins like that would warrant playoff consideration. Even if it doesn't happen, it'd be good to be in the discussion as arguably one of the top four teams in the country when the committee makes their choices.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
I would 100%. Although most are in serious little brother mode where only OSU matters and the bowl game is meaningless.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
Count me in that group. While I'd obviously prefer to win all of our remaining games, especially those against the rivals, just beating OSU this year is good enough for me. We have to break the curse of Jim Tressel, soon.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:25 PM ^
I'm in this group.
I'm not totally in BPONE-land (and I'm still supportive of Harbaugh), but I am at the point where 1-11 with a win over OSU might be more satisfying to me than the 2018 season.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:28 PM ^
Well, an OSU win is worth far more to this program than any non-CFP bowl win ever will be so count me in that camp. Michigan will never get over the hump to being 'elite' till they can beat OSU with some reasonable consistency again
October 21st, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
We're not even at the "reasonable consistency" point yet. Just beating a decent OSU team once would be nice. The last time we did that (2003), "Facebook" was something that grad schools gave out to incoming students at orientation and "Twitter" was something hummingbirds did. Once we notch just one win over a ranked OSU team, we can talk about "reasonable consistency".
October 21st, 2019 at 12:29 PM ^
The bowl games are meaningless. Winning a big ten title for once would be nice, but highly unlikely for this season.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
Hell yeah I would be satisfied. That would be awesome if they won out with wins against ND, MSU and OSU. It would mean that the offense finally started clicking. It would make for a fun off season for sure.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
Hail yes I would!
Any season we can beat ND, Staee, and the buckeye evil empire would be very satisfying.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
That depends on if we outhit them as well or not.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:56 AM ^
100% yes. Would also give Michigan a shot at landing in the Rose Bowl. Sign me up.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
Doubtful. The loser of the BIG title game will likely go to the Rose Bowl. Although a 10-2 Michigan with those wins would almost certainly be in a NY6 bowl.
That is the joy of the BIG conference alignment right now. We have to win the East to go to either the Playoff or the Rose Bowl.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
Only if we get to play against our Florida RIVAL again
October 21st, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
Hmm I don't think a 1 loss osu team gets in unless Minnesota has 1 loss if they play each other. Rose bowl doesn't look good for us this year
October 21st, 2019 at 11:56 AM ^
That would be 3-0 against rivals and 1-0 against a likely top 10 bowl opponent. New territory for this staff meaning no November fall off, so yes?
Hell with that much luck maybe the Gophers do Michigan a solid and beat Penn State and Mich gets into a Big Ten Championship birth.
yes, very yes.

Thank you.

I'm not often a grammar Nazi, but when I am, birth/berth always gets me going.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
That'd require the winner of PSU/OSU to drop at least one more game.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:06 PM ^
Need Wisky to pull off a miracle this weekend. Hopefully they are angry about their loss to Illinois and it allows to compete in a game that I don't see them staying in.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
The only hope I see in that game is that Ohio State has played absolutely no one and thus might get frustrated if they face an opponent that can hang with them.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:18 PM ^
I did a diary post in this very topic above. Basically, if OSU and PSU both drop games this weekend, Michigan chances to be in the hunt for the division go from nonexistent to pretty good. If OSU beats Wisconsin, then we're all but dead in the title hunt.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:56 AM ^
100% yes because beating OSU and finishing top 10 is a damn good season.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:56 AM ^
Is this a Serious question?
Beating osu, MSU, Nd, NY6 bowl?
that would be the best Michigan season since 97
October 21st, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
It'd be approximately equal to 2003, depending on how we did in the bowl game.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:57 AM ^
Yes. Even if we dropped one to ND or MSU and then won the rest. I would be satisfied.
Extremely satisfied if we win out.
October 21st, 2019 at 12:25 PM ^
Beat Sparty. Badly. Physically punish them. Make them afraid to ever play UM again.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:58 AM ^
If we won out, and finished 10-2 and say we win the bowl game and go 11-2. It would feel like a slightly worse version of the 1988 Michigan season. You feel good at the end but you think about what could have been. But yes, I'd take that in a heartbeat right now without even thinking twice.
October 21st, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
Every team but the national champ thinks about what could have been. No one expected us to win a national championship this year but it's nice to dream about it being possible while you can.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
A win against ohio state and Michigan state obviously would be a successful season
October 21st, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
I can't imagine anybody saying no to this question. I agree we saw our offense make some huge strides against ped state. I'm feeling good about the rest of our games except OSU. That's not very realistic at this point (IMHO).
October 21st, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
I mean I figured it was a easy answer, but who the fuck knows with some of the negativity we have among the fanbase right now. The most negative would still find a way to spin it that a 10-2 team should have been able to beat either Wisky or PSU.
