What Do We Need to Do To Beat Iowa?
What do you think we need to do to beat Iowa next week? I have two things.
1. Learn to cover drag routes.
2. Replace Glasgow (Dax looks great). He is a liability and we need more speed out there. I know he plays hard, but he was exposed bad today and it's not like this is the first game he has been exposed.

Play good football.
September 28th, 2019 at 6:21 PM ^
I recommend scoring more points than Iowa.
September 28th, 2019 at 7:51 PM ^
That's just crazy enough that it might work!
September 29th, 2019 at 10:13 AM ^
It’s really just that simple. Kind of like you won’t walk batters if you throw strikes. Easier said at times.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:14 PM ^
Kidnap the Iowa team/coaches then dress Rutgers up in their uniforms/clothes.

This floored me! Thx

The QB has to keep on the read plays when it's open. Our run game is pitiful and Shea isn't good enough to throw 30 attempts and win without the threat of a rushing attack.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:26 PM ^
Yeah, it is rutgers and a blowout so that probably had something to do with it but Shea needs to keep the ball more. I can count on my hand the amount of designed runs he has had in the past three games.
September 28th, 2019 at 6:12 PM ^
Yes n yes. Not impressed w run game.
September 28th, 2019 at 7:40 PM ^
Throw the ball 70% of the time to stud WR's. Our run game just looks bad.
September 29th, 2019 at 7:28 AM ^
It doesn't look great but our best RB seems "limited" at the moment. Hopefully he will be able to get 15-20 carries next week. They will need that against Iowa. Turner needs to be a changeup type back coming in with that fresh burst, and not the featured back.
September 28th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
If DCaff was healthy, I'd agree. Or make sure Shea gives himself up after gaining a few yards.
It'd keep the D honest on covering and help him not taking hits.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:20 PM ^
Score more points than them. Wait.... Is this a trick question?
September 28th, 2019 at 4:20 PM ^
September 28th, 2019 at 5:11 PM ^
This is mgoblog we can’t talk about points
September 28th, 2019 at 4:21 PM ^
Dont make stupid mistakes . Specifically no turnovers .
September 28th, 2019 at 4:21 PM ^
Make them play not in Kinnick Stadoum where they are invincible
September 28th, 2019 at 6:57 PM ^
Check. The game is at home.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:22 PM ^
Throw, throw, throw.
Michigan will lose if they try to play in a phone booth with Iowa.
Iowa is very balanced. Michigan probably won't be able to run on them. Pass protection looked very good today. If they can build upon that then I like where that is headed.
I don't like the defense vs. Iowa in the run game. They won't shut them out and it would be better for the defense playing from the lead.
Be aggressive throwing and they may be able to pull it out.
I'm 50/50 on the outcome.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:39 PM ^
Good points. I too am 50/50 on IA but now think it will be competitive. Maybe home field advantage and Gaddis on the sideline will help Michigan.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:24 PM ^
I have a feeling Glasgow is going to be the Brandon Watson of last year's OSU game. You can only hide a guy so long. The coaches like these gritty under the radar guys for whatever reason.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:25 PM ^
I like McGrone and I think he is the most athletic LB they have. The coaches should let him play more.
September 28th, 2019 at 8:11 PM ^
Had a flashback to Bush when he chased down runner to the sideline today.
September 28th, 2019 at 5:42 PM ^
There's no hiding Glasgow in space after today though. They'll have to scheme ways to keep him inside, keep mcgrone able to fire at the QB and cover the space with anyone but those two
September 28th, 2019 at 5:43 PM ^
Yeah the “try hard guys” are cool but your most talented defenders need to be in there next week
September 28th, 2019 at 7:27 PM ^
I respect the hell out of kids like Glasgow and Mason, but this is exactly the difference between us and more successful programs like OSU: making the most of your talent.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:24 PM ^
1. Don't turn the ball over
2. Shea needs to run the ball
3. Defense needs to be gap sound to stop the Iowa run game
September 28th, 2019 at 4:28 PM ^
Give Shea the option to actually pull and run the ball. We're still burning yards by tying our hands in the run game.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:41 PM ^
When Shea ran for his two TDs, he held the ball with both hands until he got into the End Zone. That was good to see.
September 28th, 2019 at 5:01 PM ^
Agreed, but there is little point in running Shea a bunch in a game that you should win easily, and without your backup QB.
September 28th, 2019 at 9:25 PM ^
September 30th, 2019 at 11:27 AM ^
As they say, three things can happen when you throw and two of them are bad. Sure, it would be nice to pad his passing stats but in that instance the likelihood of Shea scoring via his feet was higher versus throwing it.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:28 PM ^
Isn’t the key always to outhit your opponent?
September 28th, 2019 at 4:36 PM ^
I thought it was something to do with pad level

Shin angles
September 28th, 2019 at 4:29 PM ^
Keep doing what we did against Rutgers
-accurate passing
-don't turn the ball over
-defense step up when it counts
The one problem we had today was the run game; not consistent enough. Some of that was the O-line, but somebody else watching the game mentioned that there were a few times where the RBs had holes but just didn't take them for whatever reason.
September 29th, 2019 at 12:08 PM ^
Haskins took them.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:35 PM ^
No turnovers and no dumb penalties.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:37 PM ^
Win the turnover battle. Get the ball to DPJ, Nico, T. Black, Bell, and rush for over 150 yds.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:39 PM ^
Go look at the Wisconsin UFR. Which linebacker that can't perform their assignment do you want to replace Glasgow?
It would be interesting to see McGrone take Ross' spot and have Ross slide to his position last year, but he hasn't really done anything to warrant sitting Glasgow for him.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:49 PM ^
Stop them from running it down our throats...getting to 3rd downs and getting stops. Offense hopefully can go get us 3-4 tds (this is debatable, of course) so the defense needs to man up or it'll be another old fashioned BigTen ass-kicking like last week.
September 28th, 2019 at 4:50 PM ^
Playing lights out without any turnovers while finding a way to stop manball. Easy
September 28th, 2019 at 4:59 PM ^
Don’t. Turn. The. Ball. Over.
Having one turnover against Rutgers when the game is already well in hand is okay, but don’t be surprised if the game next week is another low-scoring ugly slobber knocker. One turnover could change the result of the game for either side. Iowa doesn’t strike me as a program that ever really beats itself. They play boring football, but they execute it well and don’t make mistakes. Michigan has not shown it can play a clean, mistake-free game yet.
September 28th, 2019 at 5:01 PM ^
Qb is the most important position in football. Patterson has to play great. Also, the refs will need to call OPI when receivers fucking tackle defensive players. I get that man coverage leaves you open to pick plays, but holy shit they need to at least look like routes. That was terrible today.
September 28th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
Score more points
September 28th, 2019 at 5:07 PM ^
More points than the Hawkeyes!
September 28th, 2019 at 5:08 PM ^
We need to stop faking end around, jets sweeps, and qb runs, and actually do them. We either run inside or throw outside, and our fakes are almost always fakes, and are typically predictable, setting up more inside runs. Today's qb rushing touchdowns were exceptions, but I don't know why we save them for 2-3 must-score situations a game. Use them regularly, mix them in until someone takes it away. Our run game still needs work.
September 28th, 2019 at 5:09 PM ^
Simple.....score more points than them.
September 28th, 2019 at 5:12 PM ^
Definitely score more points than them
