Charles Woodson new Michigan coach
I’ve been having a discussion with my Father who is visiting from out of state. Is Charles Woodson qualified to be a head coach? I feel like a college all American Heisman winner and 20 year pro, should have the resources and education to properly develop these boys. What are your thoughts and how realistic is it considering he has never coached.

You're right to be dismissive but at least OP included important data for the discussion.
I mean, it's a much richer debate knowing that OPs father is in town from out of state. Great thread.

Yea no.

Does a man who has never been a coach at any level have the qualifications to be a coach at a top 15 program? Hell no.
I know things are really bad right now, but some of the posters here have lost their goddamn minds. If we’re going to talk about coaching changes, lets at least make them realistic.

Who's the top 15 program?
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
Regardless of how we look now, this is still one of the more attractive jobs in all of college football. We’ve finished top 15 three of the past four years. Obviously not performing like it right now.

Doesn't matter if Michigan is a top-15 job or a top-50 one. The idea of Charles Woodson leaving his cushy life for one of 80-hour work weeks and mountains of unreachable expectations is ridiculous. Oh and then there's that little thing of him never having coached a day of football in his entire life!!!

I'd love to have C-Wood as the coach!! He knows the game as good as anyone & knows how to win.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
Being a good player doesn’t mean you can coach it.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:38 PM ^
He would be a good positional coach....I am sure he would leave his nice gig on FOX to coach the DB’s. Let’s ask haha.

Thanks

If you and your dad agree that Woodson should be the next head coach at M then I would say you are definitely from his genes and don't have to worry that you are the product of and affair your ma may or may not have had.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:35 PM ^
Just a conversation, I didn’t say he should be.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
And maybe Tom Brady can be his QB coach!
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
Good lord. I can't believe someone in the world thinks this is a remotely good idea.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:38 PM ^
To all the "no's" ...you think Woodson couldn't have done better than that shitshow yesterday?
Guaranteed-fuckin-tee the D wouldn't have gotten gashed like that.
He for sure would have thrown the ball to Nico & crew as well.
Kids would play inspired football under him also. If Wood come up & told players anything ...they would listen. He just has the it factor - plus the best trophy case in football to back it up.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:47 PM ^
There's literally hundreds of MORE PROVEN coaches out there who've actually game planned, scouted, taught, recruited, dealt with hundreds of personalities, motivated, etc......why in the world would you settle for a complete unknown.
September 22nd, 2019 at 1:00 PM ^
Charles Woodson was a natural playmaker and legend. That’s shit you can’t teach no matter how hard you tried.
You’re talking about a guy that had a 1 handed interception against MSU and punt return TD against OSU in crunch time. You can’t teach that kind of clutchness.
Jim Harbaugh sure as hell can’t coach it either.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:38 PM ^
Is Charles Woodson qualified to be a head coach?
Fuck no, are you and your dad huffing gas?
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
Yes, let's fire Harbaugh with success everywhere he's been to hire somebody with no experience to coach a big name school just because he's an alum ? Wow.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
You and your dad need to talk about different things.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:40 PM ^
No and you should feel bad for starting a post asking such.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
Not at all, we need to consider all resources.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
No. But as a national commentator with his cachet, he is valuable. To have someone of his stature publicly state he was embarrassed by yesterday carries weight the program can't ignore.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
Idiot post of the day. Yeah, let's hire a guy WITH NO EXPERIENCE AT THE JOB. That's worked out so well in, let's say, other areas.
September 22nd, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
Well said. I regret I have but one upvote to give for my team
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
Can't think of a single reason he would be considered a candidate. There's hundreds of guys more qualified for this than he is.
This would take the whole Michigan man thing to laughable levels.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:43 PM ^
Um, no.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
See Tyrone Wheatley....
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
The Michigan Man. Still tickling the imagination of homerific losers.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:49 PM ^
Fair enough, just interesting that Wisconsin is coached by 3 former Wisky players.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
Who all had coaching experience before becoming a head coach or a coordinator.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
Should we give a shit that your father is visiting from "out of state"???
Does that mean he's on a prison furlow? Or on parole, finally?
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:54 PM ^
I laughed heartily.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:50 PM ^
prove himself as an assistant, first... the potential is there, but down the road
September 22nd, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
You really think Charles Woodson would leave his cushy life in LA to be a college position coach making $300K and working 75+ hours a week? Get real, man. This notion is ridiculous.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
Well, he does have years of head coaching experience.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
Tony Annese with woodsen as D coord and Brady as O coord
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
For the love of... can Someone please delete this thread?
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
Get a long time Clemson Coord. They are the cornerstone to that program. It’s probably our best shot.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:54 PM ^
Chuck is far too busy enjoying his time in Napa County.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:54 PM ^
How about Harbaugh leave on his own terms and then we throw the checkbook at Lincoln Riley but curb all the "Michigan Man" bullshit?
September 22nd, 2019 at 1:01 PM ^
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
Head coach?!!! Why is this even a discussion? There is no chance.
Maybe. And a big maybe is that he could be a positions coach. Big maybe.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:58 PM ^
no and he has said out loud...I’m not coaching.
He is making buckets of money from tv and buckets of money from his delicious wine (check, check)
no need to go any further.
