Webber speaks about possible Fab Five reunion
Sorry to distract everyone from football, but 'Lique wrote a Fab Five Reunion Possibility article today.
C-Webb says he's interested. Manuel says they're all welcome back and that Webber does not have to apologize. He also had previously told Angelique that a reunion was discussed with Juwan during the interview process.
So what is the hold up? (Jalen?)
September 17th, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
Maybe waiting for bball season?
September 17th, 2019 at 10:51 PM ^
Prolly.
A reunion won't change anything for me about them. Still feel the same way about 4 out of 5.
Some of the best times watching Michigan basketball for me. But we can't go back now and just forget all that's happened because of a reunion, imo.
Go Blue!
September 18th, 2019 at 9:56 AM ^
I say let it go. This is so damned far in the past and after all, they were just kids. No that isn't an excuse, it's an explanation. Time to reunite.
September 18th, 2019 at 4:01 PM ^
Agreed. Much worse things going on in the world.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
Who says there's a hold up? Howard hasn't coached his first game yet... Do you expect them to have a reunion in the middle of September and just hang out in his office?
September 17th, 2019 at 10:21 PM ^
Bring back Midnight Madness and do it there.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
Only if it’s at noon ?
September 17th, 2019 at 10:29 PM ^
Yeah, they don't need a special plan. Just do it. (Nike slogan not intended.)
September 17th, 2019 at 10:16 PM ^
You're living in the past dude.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
You should try it. I would recommend 1984 for you.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:59 PM ^
1985 has Back to the Future, though.. Think of all the Huey Lewis you'd be missing out on.
September 18th, 2019 at 1:06 AM ^
So go back to 1985, then take your Delorean to 1984. But please take care of your flux capacitor.
September 17th, 2019 at 11:01 PM ^
Tonight I'm going to party like it's 4/3/89.
September 18th, 2019 at 9:05 AM ^
Three thousand years of beautiful tradition, from Moses to Sandy Koufax, you're goddamn right I'm living in the past.

September 17th, 2019 at 10:25 PM ^
“‘lique”
you just typed that out.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:26 PM ^
Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? Gotta plead ignorance on that one.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
Reminds me of this classic.
September 18th, 2019 at 7:58 AM ^
Is it pronounced 'leak' or 'lick'?
September 18th, 2019 at 3:32 AM ^
FWIW, there’s a very good Vegas-based band called The Lique.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
Sorry Warde... Webber does need to apologize. That's the only reason why this has dragged on for 20 years.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
Please explain why he needs to apologize and who he needs to do it to? Martin gave money to a lot of kids, he wasn't a blue booster.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:47 PM ^
There were pictures posted throughout athletic department facilities of Ed Martin with a caption saying do not associate with this man.
he wasn't a blue booster
According to the NCAA definition of a booster, yes, Ed Martin was.
September 17th, 2019 at 11:14 PM ^
He didn't just give Michigan players money like a booster does, see Miami football. He gave kids money that didn't even go to college. According to the NCAA kids shouldn't take his money but far from a true booster with his bag money. Regardless of the definition you want to follow, your crazy if you dont think that almost every power 5 team doesn't have at least one or two accepting benefits not allowed by the NCAA. So we single him out? Shouldn't every single player do the same.....
September 18th, 2019 at 12:16 PM ^
I'm going to bet that were a lot of college basketball coaches that weren't sad that Martin passed away before being able to testify before the grand jury...
September 17th, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
So you never responded to the question... who and why?
September 18th, 2019 at 5:28 AM ^
So what? Chris Webber isn't your servant. He was right about NIL rights in 1993 and even the most progressive part of the country is only now coming around to it.
September 18th, 2019 at 12:27 PM ^
There were pictures posted throughout athletic department facilities of Ed Martin with a caption saying do not associate with this man.
Not when he was there. Martin wasn't banned from the program until 1997, four years after Webber left.

In hindsight, we should have been paying everyone forever. Look at Football and how bad it has gotten. Paying players should have been made acceptable by the NCAA after fab 5 incident. Now just a few schools are getting it done under the table and schools like UM, ND holding the standard for a lost cause. I don't know if it is right or wrong but right about now the last 20 years seems like a waste
/Rant off
September 17th, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
This would be awesome!

Fab Five Honorary Captains for ND at night
September 17th, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
I’m for all things Michigan. Go blue. Do it. This is better for our university. Holding a grudge or shaming others is not.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:56 PM ^
It's not my life or my business, but I know life's too damn short for old friends to not make up and get back to being friends again. If they do, then that's a great thing.
September 17th, 2019 at 10:59 PM ^
Good. Long overdue.
September 17th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
Enough already.
September 17th, 2019 at 11:32 PM ^
Holding grudges requires way too much effort. Welcome back Chris Webber! You were an awesome basketball player!
September 17th, 2019 at 11:49 PM ^
They should do it at halftime of the OSU game to distract us from the bloodletting on the field.
September 18th, 2019 at 12:37 AM ^
I’m fine with it. It would be cool and hopefully put the issues to bed. Without apologizing, Chris seems to have met us halfway by supporting the program again.
September 18th, 2019 at 1:11 AM ^
I'd be thrilled to have CWebb and the Fab Five back.
September 18th, 2019 at 2:22 AM ^
Just make it happen and get over it!
September 18th, 2019 at 7:52 AM ^
Indifferent. Want him to apologize, but not a huge deal if he doesn't.
September 18th, 2019 at 8:16 AM ^
I sorta love that despite all of the petty-ass bickering, the second Howard-- who seems to be everyone's favorite dude-- become coach, they are all talking reunion.
September 18th, 2019 at 8:45 AM ^
Welcome them all back and put the Final Four banners back up in Crisler. If the NCAA is going to let programs like Penn State and Michigan State continue to exist given the orders of magnitude worse shit they let happen in comparison to the Ed Martin scandal, then fuck them and let the laundry hang.
September 18th, 2019 at 11:17 AM ^
Seriously, like why not? What is the NCAA going to do, send Mark Emmert over to Crisler with a giant ladder to take them down?
In the movie version of this story, Warde is played by the Rock, and he basically gives the entire institution the bird and says we're done with your hypocrisy. With explosions, of course.
September 18th, 2019 at 10:23 AM ^
To me, the whole Martin scandal is so far in the past, that an apology is irrelevant in present day context: Cam Newton, PSU, MSU, UNC, etc. And really why should we fans require an apology? We were "benefiting" from his work and ability, and the University definitely was. The real damage was done to his team's legacy and the basketball program.
Since we agreed to take the banners down, we should leave them down. However there should be a home of the fab five banner or something up instead.
There is room to own all facets of the Fab Five openly: they were a cultural and basketball phenomenon that made Michigan cool, and the glory was awesome. The University definitely benefited more from that moment than at least two of Fab Five did, and it is unfair that those two were not able to fully profit from their four years of fame. It is even unfair that Jalen, Chris and Juwan were unable to profit from their three years during those years. Finally, the Ed Martin payments were sleazy and against the rules, and lying about them was wrong too, which the University owned and the program paid consequences for.
At the end of the day though - go back at watch the pure fun and glory of the Fab Five in action (while skipping the end of the UNC game). It was awesome, and should be celebrated as such.
September 18th, 2019 at 10:50 AM ^
I agree generally with your sentiment.
Regarding the banners, we were forced to take them down for I think a 10-year period. We have chosen to keep them down. No one outside the University is compelling us to do that now. I am not saying I demand they go back up, but if they do, we're not reneging on anything.
I think Webber's worst crime was his only crime: perjury. I don't know if fear of prosecution is keeping him from apologizing at this point. I don't know if there's a statute of limitations. There's probably not much risk of him being tried for perjury even if he does openly admit it.
But I don't care about an apology. It's just silly and awkward that he can't or won't acknowledge what happened.

Make the Fab 5 honorary captains for Ohio State game
September 18th, 2019 at 2:34 PM ^
Do whatever. Just make it on a day all of the 5 star recruits visit.
