OSU trying to trademark the word "The"
https://thespun.com/big-ten/ohio-state-buckeyes/the-ohio-state-trademark-application-shirts
The pretentiousness is appalling.

Goddammit I hope we kick their teeth in this year.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:56 AM ^
Did someone profess violence?
August 14th, 2019 at 7:21 AM ^
August 14th, 2019 at 7:34 AM ^
No, they think they are envied.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:15 AM ^
Spot on. I live in ohio and every OSU fan dismisses the hatred for OSU as jelousy. I travel the country for work and can tell you that OSU is loathed Nationaly. I always follow up where I’m from , when asked, that my family is from Michigan and I’m not a buckeye fan.
August 14th, 2019 at 12:10 PM ^
Are you saying you don’t envy their success? I don’t believe that for one second. I’d give anything to see UM win the BIG again. My OSU fans don’t even get excited about winning the conference anymore.
August 14th, 2019 at 2:27 PM ^
i don't envy anything about ohio state. i find them to be an embarrassment, cheaters whose egos overinflate based on the complete absence of values or ethics. i'd rather be a part of michigan than ohio state, full stop.
August 14th, 2019 at 4:15 PM ^
Do some people envy their success? Yes. But that doesn't mean that many people can't still hate them as well for being cocky, self-important fucks with no morals
August 14th, 2019 at 2:12 PM ^
My dentist is a Nebraska grad. She loves college ball. I have first hand experience that folks in Lincoln are the NICEST fans you will meet anywhere outside of A2.
First time she went to Columbus, she was appalled. Want to get her 0 - 60 in under 3 seconds? Talk about that shitty fanbase.
She now roots for:
1. Nebraska.
1a. Anyone who plays t(tm)OSU
Same with a Texas colleague of mind. Pretty much the other 49 states hate Ohio -- and for good reason.
August 14th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
This is what they don't realize. Granted, there are a LOT of people who love the Buckeyes and almost all of them are from Ohio. But everywhere else they are reviled. Not just viewed with indifference. Literally hated.
August 14th, 2019 at 7:23 AM ^
Could be worse. At least they havent institutionalized domestic abuse enablement.
August 14th, 2019 at 7:42 AM ^
I believe that is a course at their school.
Go Blue!!
August 14th, 2019 at 8:08 AM ^
Urban is really busy teaching a lot of courses.
August 14th, 2019 at 10:43 AM ^
I think the odds would be far greater if they applied at the trademark office for a more descriptive and fitting three-letter word:
August 14th, 2019 at 7:25 AM ^
Read the fine print: this would only apply when spoken from the rim of a cooler.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:27 AM ^
So why not trademark "Cooler Pooper"
August 14th, 2019 at 8:48 AM ^
I think you mean ‘THE Cooler Pooper’
August 14th, 2019 at 7:30 AM ^
I’m sure the OSU fan bro s think this is cool AF
August 14th, 2019 at 7:31 AM ^
Intellectual property lawyers are notoriously pigs in trying to extend rights beyond anything reasonable. Major League Baseball is one of the worst offenders. But this! This is truly preposterous.
August 14th, 2019 at 7:33 AM ^
I don't see how it's possible. Maybe if it were a unique word like "staee".
August 14th, 2019 at 8:31 AM ^
I thought they would go for THEEEEE instead.
August 14th, 2019 at 7:33 AM ^
Have to be able to read the word "The" first
August 14th, 2019 at 7:36 AM ^
I assume they just figured out how which is why they're doing it.
August 14th, 2019 at 9:32 AM ^
Lol. Not an exaggeration by any means.
August 14th, 2019 at 7:34 AM ^
Just like how I’m gonna trademark “Sparty”.
August 14th, 2019 at 9:52 AM ^
That sparty girl---did you conquer her yet? It might help you when you apply for that trademark, you know...
August 14th, 2019 at 7:42 AM ^
A fight to own the rights of the word THE... Could you be more petty? You would think someone involved in this would recognize how pointless this is but, here we are...
August 14th, 2019 at 7:48 AM ^
CNBC had a story on this topic this morning. I guess it is a word that is easy for the alumni to spell, therefore easy to identify with.
https://www.npr.org/2019/08/14/751027846/ohio-state-university-wants-to-trademark-the-word-the
August 14th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
Yeah... CNBC... tells me a lot about that media outlet, and most of the other ones as well.
Green Day "American Idiot"
August 14th, 2019 at 7:56 AM ^
THE U --> U
The Killers --> Killers
The Bad Boys --> Bad Boys (movie or players?)
THE end --> End
THE last joke I'm going to make --> last joke I'm going to make
August 14th, 2019 at 7:56 AM ^
The most common word in the English language.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:05 AM ^
I assume I can still use 'the' for a trademark on 'the coach condones wife beating'
August 14th, 2019 at 4:04 PM ^
This is a great T-shirt idea
August 14th, 2019 at 8:06 AM ^
Guys I got a new job! Don’t mind me while I tabulate all the usage of “the” in this thread and report back to Ohio State. Expect to hear from Billing.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:10 AM ^
TRAITOR!!!
August 14th, 2019 at 8:16 AM ^
"Cooler Pooper" must have already been taken.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:28 AM ^
Probably by Coleman or REI for a college edition.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:30 AM ^
Fortunately for them, "Inbred knuckle-dragger" is still available.
August 14th, 2019 at 9:43 AM ^
.....as is "Mouth Breather"
August 14th, 2019 at 8:19 AM ^
Only a bunch of ignorant, knuckle-dragging, cavemen would attempt to file a TM application for the most commonly used word in the English language. That'll go about as far as a one dollar bill at a Ferrari dealership.
August 14th, 2019 at 11:43 AM ^
They are only trying for TM on “THE”, we are ok to still use “The” and “the”.
if they get it, I have put in a TM application for “THIS IS”.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:20 AM ^
This is very Ohio State of them to do so
August 14th, 2019 at 9:15 AM ^
* This is very THE Ohio State of them to do so
Get with the program or get sued, buddy.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:20 AM ^
They are THE pain in my ass
August 14th, 2019 at 8:24 AM ^
They are not going to get a trademark on the most commonly used word in the dictionary. They have to know this. So I’m fine with them wasting all kinds of time and money trying to get it to work
August 14th, 2019 at 8:30 AM ^
Well they are certainly living up to the title they received recently as the most annoying fan base in college football.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:31 AM ^
My Bro-lo already has one of these obnoxious hats. This is tremendously on brand for tOSU. Somebody starts making money on something tangential to the school and their lawyers are all over it with lawsuits and applications for trademarks. I would be interested to know how many trademarks and copyrights they own.
August 14th, 2019 at 8:34 AM ^
"AN" Ohio State University
August 14th, 2019 at 8:45 AM ^
What would be even more laughable is if they tried to trademark the word "integrity".
August 14th, 2019 at 8:51 AM ^
So during Michigan-Ohio State week, make sure that if you are around Ann Arbor, to find any signage or literature with the word "the" and put a big red X through it.
