Saban throws assistants under bus
Saban laying blame for the National Championship drubbing:
“We had a lot of guys who wanted to be head coaches at different places. I’m not being critical of those people. It’s just very challenging."
To paraphrase, "I'm just sayin'."
Granted, this is from Yahoo Sports, which is mostly trash, but I always liked Forde. I'm trying to remember if we ever had an assistant or maybe a defensive coordinator who shit the bed while looking forward to their next job in places like Maryland or Ohio.

Dammit. Why didn't it turn into a link?
www.yahoo.com/sports/is-alabama-no-longer-the-gold-standard-in-college-…
Apparently, I continue to be an idiot.
Your link came up "the requested page could not be found"
Lemme try:

(Edit: this one^^^ works)
Kudos to you. It blows my mind that someone paid money to get people to make this site. It's so much worse than every VBB powered forum on earth.
Don't be too hard on yourself. This site functions like someone in their high school computers class built it.
High school computer class in the 90s*
Yes, for many it is hard to follow instructions. The little link icon is too convoluted to use easily.

I'm calling BS on the whiners.
At NUBS ?? Damn I hated those punch cards ( and the syntax errors , and the unknown errors and the ...).
Heck...what about punch tape?....
FORTAN IV, IIRC. At NUBS, where it was almost impossible to get a terminal, so you had to go the punch card route. And if you ever dropped a stack of those punch cards on the floor... huge bummer.
Mike Locksley is the only coach from Bama's staff that went on to a HC position after the NCG, but I suppose that's picking nits.
Doesn't mean he was the only one poking around.
Enos wanted out and was looking for work (he's at Miami now). Locksley left for Maryland (known before the playoffs). Gattis was likely out and preparing to leave if he didn't get sole OC spot at Bama (he was going to Maryland with Locksley until Michigan offered). Lupoi was probably already told he wasn't coming back (Saban was fairly clearly unhappy with him as a DC, but his upward track landed him an NFL position coaching job). I wouldn't be surprised if Banks was looking for a bigger role other than ST/TE. Key, the OL coach, left to be Georgia Tech OL/RGC. Pannunzio, the RB coach, is now director of team development for the Eagles.
So you can say only one got a HC gig, but others may have been looking for HC or different landing positions already as well.
It isn't the only reason they lost to Clemson, but it's pretty clear the coaching turnover at Bama is atypical.
And who the hell hired those people? Saban must be furious at them!
That's rich coming from Saban. He pushes out his OC at least every other year. They're all former HCs too. He lured Enos away from MIchigan days after he took a job here.
Does he really expect the kind of loyalty Dabo gets from his assistants? It's a two way street.
Typo correction... its Penos
Remember Curtis Enis, the former PSU RB great? I guess I have always assumed his middle name was "Paul" or something, as I have always referred to him as Curtis P Enis. It's still funny when I think of him. He was a damn good RB so no disrespect meant.
Not to mention it's odd for Michigan fans to take schaedenfreude at this given we used the exact same excuse when Durkin and Mattison left us.
Picking nits is a lousey thing to do.
Sometimes, you just have scratch that itch.
So is misspelling lousy
Whoosh....
Will this make it more apparent? Louse-y?
I would agree with his assessment.
Didn’t we say the same thing about Durkin?
This blog turned on Durkin like we were dancing the Flamenco
The blog turned out to be correct.
I recall a few "DJ Dickhead" comments.
Didn't you understand the byline in the OP?
It's a real problem.
Damn. Why didn't we hire him in 1995 ?
Jim McElwain seemed like more of a placeholder at WR coach while he was here.
Only because there are no sharks in Michigan lakes.
You know he left for Central Michigan University right?
Considering that Saban reportedly literally stepped over a convulsing player, I'm not surprised that he'll publicly throw shit at others v. owning things completely like a good leader should.
I eat oatmeal everyday. Love me.
Those fuckers dropped me. Go ahead and eat Honey Smacks.
The player reporting that wondered aloud if Saban was a "robot." No, that's how folks with narcissistic personalities act.
I guess 2 little Debbies and a Cup of Coffee didn't do the trick that night.
Jeebus, Satan is into little girls, too.
This is how I feel about Greg Mattison and OSU
He was eyeing that OSU job from our sideline and it just so happens out dline had their worst game ever
Who is this greg mattison that you talk about???
You know, Benedict Mattison!
You know, double Benedict Mattison!
Our defensive line coach who was prescient of OSU's future coaching situation was the reason we couldn't cover crossing routes? That's an interesting new excuse.
OR....Rashan and Chase were playing very hurt and others were out hurt as well so our DL was ineffective....and we can't cover passing routes.
It had nothing to do with Mattison leaving later.
Probably not but still a major dick move.
Well ...I imagine if you consider it, you might realize Mattison actually left before the 2017 season, as his recruiting and the Dline struggles show.
