OT: Nick Ward is done with school
This was trending yesterday, but didn't see it posted anywhere on the board, and thought it's too good not to have posted here.

Kind of funny if you ask me ...at least he's not one of those group project people that are trying to get credit for not ever doing any work.
Will embed tweet in next post.

Honestly, I'd probably do the same thing.
Very few people would actually do what Andrew Luck did and finish out his classes before jumping.
So leadership and integrity only matter on the field/court?
A UM student posted on this board during the Fall that Gary stopped going to class weeks before the end of football season so let’s not play the school game
He shouldn't have bailed. Take school seriously while you're enrolled. If the kids aren't going to go to school, make space available in the class to a kid who wants to be there.
Nick needs all the time he can get to get in shape for those free agent workouts after the draft.

I just don't get it. I wasn't an athlete, but I certainly hit the gym enough to be in good shape through college and the military. His lack of conditioning seems like laziness.
Yeah, I'm not surprised guys leave like that. At the same time, you'd have hoped the guy would have maybe told them more formally than a group text message. Or run it by the professor so the other people in his group don't have to tell the teacher.
So, because he's an athlete, he should have called everyone to a meeting to formally tell them that he is dropping the class and not doing the project with them?
I've had plenty of regular students just stop showing up to classes randomly without having to have an in person meeting to inform everyone of their departure.
I'm going to bet these guys tell their professors. This looks like he was just telling the group members separately.
Definitely does stink getting left out to dry, but that's life. I'd rather a person tell me to take their name off and that they're done than somebody make me do the work and expect their name on the project.
More formally? What is the proper etiquette for delivering this type of message? Invite them all to coffee and tell them it's not them, it's him?
Also, there's no indication he didn't tell his professor.
This was a pretty thoughtful courtesy to let his team know and text is a perfectly acceptable way to deliver it. Young people don't listen to voicemails (they rarely even set them up), and barely read emails so this was probably the best way to deliver the message.
Yeah, as much as I'd love to trash the guy, I too thought "at least he bothered to send them a text." That's more than most "regular" students bother to do.

I am sure the ankles have not healed!
Thank you for posting. This will never ever get old.
gosh dang those road Blues look amazing.
Team player right there.
I think it was honorable of him to be up front and willingly remove himself from recognition of work he didn't do.
I actually laughed at the reply from the other student and the "LOL" Nick added. Like, "Hahahaha, nah buddy, I'm not helping, I'm already gone..."
If his groupmates were counting on him to do something and he bailed, leaving them with more work, then, no - that is not honorable.
For a minute Ward read that text and the request that he help with "analysis" wrong and said, "Anal tits? They want me to help with anal tits??? Well, I might be down for that before I leave campus....OHHHH, analysis. Got it. Nah, that's ok..."
I'm guessing most students assume any D-1 athlete on their group projects with borderline NBA level talent aren't going to be providing much useful input for class projects. They're probably glad he quit removing any questions that the rest of the group did all the work by themselves.
If his group mates were counting on him to do anything, even before he bailed, worrying about who is going to pick up Wards share should be the least of their worries.
Has he never texted with them before? Who in a group text states their full name?

For a guy that is AT BEST a marginal NBA prospect, and more likely a long-term starter for the Kyrgyzstan Fighting Kyrgys, you think he'd at least finish up the semester.
I don't think a stae degree means what you think it does.

When are we gonna stop being surprised by what Shithole University “students” do?
Let's not get all high and mighty. Sam said that JP is currently in CA preparing for the pros. I'd like to know how many guys that have declared for the draft with no intention of returning finish out the semester. Probably very few.
Yeah. They should make a degree for athletes so they can stop pretending theyre actually university students with the same standards as everyone else

That's more work right there than my daughter's history fair partner put in this year, so I am good with Nick for checking in.
Fuck group projects.
Really wish I could give this multiple upvotes.
I can somewhat understand them in undergrad, though I still didn't like them. Alot of people live on campus, so it's not that hard to get together and work on things. But when I did my MSW and was still having to do group projects, I was losing my mind. Half the people in my program (myself included) were still working fulltime while in the program and nobody lived around/on campus. Ridiculous expectations from professors IMO. Luckily Google Drive exists.
Teaches kids about socialism.
Absolutely. I had a group project where participation points for the group didn't add up to an A for everyone if split evenly. Everyone had to submit their own document about what they and others did. So basically if you wanted an A for participation you had to talk shit about your group mates, which we found out after it was done. One guy did most of the work but that's because he tried to own the whole thing from the very beginning. So I ended up arguing we should split the participation points, which would give us each a B plus for that component. Great way to build teamwork, professor.
Does anyone know if Iggy is still going to his classes? Asking for me. Thanks.
Did he actually go to school?
So what? Good for him. 99.99% of us wouldn't continue our job/school project if we won the lottery.
I wouldn’t consider being a fringe NBA prospect who’s more likely to end up playing basketball in Turkmenistan than the US to be “winning the lottery,” but I still understand your point.
Ward, though, ain't won shit.
One of the biggest reasons spartie won the B1G this past season is because Ward got injured. Tillman proved to be a much better fit in their lineup
I am surprised he even gave his group a heads up. I am more surprised he isn't finishing the semester, considering it's maybe a week away? At most, when he announced his decision there was 2 weeks of winter semester remaining. Smart guy.........
Smart enough to think that three seasons of G-League salary is going to last him the rest of his life, apparently.
I'm guessing he quit doing any work a long time ago.
not to flip this sideways, but we're talking about someone who is thinking (justifiably or not) about maybe going to the nba someday.
counting on him to be a fully equal partner in your group is either a) not the smartest way to approach the project, or b) a pretty good sign that you wanted him in your group so you could someday tell people that you "worked on a group project with NICK WARD!"
also, i'm pretty sure nick ward "finished school" the moment he signed with msu.
Unless I want to tell people I was in a group project with a big time college basketball player, I'm not seeking one out to be in my group during March/April lol especially at Michigan or MSU.
"Dude where TF were you all last month???"
Well to be fair, if the past couple years were an indication they probably expected him to be back after the first weekend of the tourney
It's a Staee class. They should have it covered.
I am with Nick Ward there...not sure why anyone would expect a basketball player to put in any more effort than required to stay eligible, which is a moot point once you declare.
I also “lol” at anyone who thinks Michigan players are somehow more educationally engaged than those at other schools..
Also on his side. When you make a career move, you don't stick around to finish projects you're on. You give you two week notice, and if you're nice try to help transition your open work to others. You aren't required or expected to do anything else. If he's leaving school to pursue employment, why would anyone look down on him for this?
Most senior students would do the exact same thing if the job they landed during the school year didn't require them to finish their degree
