Best class in the B1G at the moment by many measureables
yes, we are ranked higher in the 247 composite even after Zach's commitment to OSU, but it is not just because of our class size
Michigan's current average in the 247 composite = .9037
Top 15 recruits average .9289, OSU's 15 man class averages .9257
Top 18 recruits average .9224, PSU's 18 man class averages .9212
so basically we have the best class currently, plus took additional lottery tickets with some 3-stars that will work themselves out one way or another

Interesting way to look at it.
December 19th, 2018 at 5:05 PM ^
Interesting indeed. If you do not take into account average rating then your system is misleading. This metric incorporates average rating in a rational way.
December 19th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
So basically you're saying we have a pretty good signing class?
December 19th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
One could even call the incoming class remarkable
In a separate thread three threads down even

Regardless of how OSU and PSU finish their respective classes, I think Michigan is in a very good position for the next couple years.
This class has:
•Great D-Linemen
•ELITE DB commit
•A WR who seems to have the athleticism and hands to be great.
•One of the best RB recruits in the country (if not THE best.)
•Much need OL recruits
•Great athletes at the LB positions
Am I missing anyone?

Side note:
Any chance the great class convinces Solomon to stay?
December 19th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
You missed QB Cade McNamara.
December 19th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
That I did, and I feel bad for it.
Cade will be great too!
December 19th, 2018 at 5:00 PM ^
He has been great in high school. But then that doesn't always translate to college. But there's something about him that makes me think he's going to be a fun player to watch.
December 19th, 2018 at 5:03 PM ^
He threw for 3400+ yards in both 16 and 17. Anybody have his 2018 stats?
He has some talent in front of him too, so he’ll have time to develop under Harbaugh and really learn the system.
December 19th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
It looked like he did it on the run a lot of times.
The play from 0:42 to 0:50 on the video at the link was 4th down on a last minute, game winning drive. He got just enough with the reach to get the 1st. He got up slow from how he hit the ground, but didn't come out of the game.
Enjoy the video!!

I'm buying this. Shows the class is of equal caliber to that of OSU and PSU. And the "lottery ticket" view of the three stars is a great way to look at it.
If you figure there are approximately 50 players on the two-deep, you need 12-15 players from each class to end up on the two-deep. This class looks like it could produce that many...and more.
December 19th, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
If you truly want an equal way to evaluate the talent in this class between the 3 schools, take the top 20% of each class since both OSU and PSU have smaller classes
I think Harbaugh would rather have 20+ 4/5 stars if afforded the opportunity. He’s making due with what we got given how this year went on the field. That requires taking 3 stars out of necessity.
December 19th, 2018 at 3:04 PM ^
"making due with what we got..." would never get Dax to consider us or flip back.
What went on "on the field" is a 10 win season and a NY6 Bowl.
December 19th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
I'm sure he wouldn't mind 20+ 4/5 stars, but the underrated guys can make the real difference if your staff is able to make good evaluations and find them, like Bush Jr. and Bell. Every year small schools put guys into the NFL. If the coaches can find these guys, they're a lot easier to recruit and the payoff is big.

I found Maizen's newest account!
December 19th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
take the top 20% of each class since both OSU and PSU have smaller classes
You don't need to. You can take their entire classes and compare them to our top 15 or 18.
We are still ahead when you do that, on both class ranking and average star ranking.
It's a great class, you guys.
#1 in the Big Ten by all measures.
December 19th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
Yeah, remember we best one of the teams youre comparing us to by 35 points this fall.
December 19th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
This is just dumb.
The only recruits added after the OSU loss are C. Johnson and Solomon, both in the top half of the class by ranking. We didn't lose anyone that was committed , unlike OSU, who lost two today.
It looks like that loss cost us one big time recruit, but we can't be certain that Harrison wouldn't have found another reason to go to OSU. Did it hurt our recruiting? Sure, but 20+ 4/5 stars in the class was not a possibility even if we were in the playoffs.
It's easier to have a higher average with a smaller class. OSU added Harrison, but also lost two commits and whiffed on others. They didn't want such a small class and it will surely grow by February. Let's what their average looks like when they're done. It's going to be hard to fill it out without taking more 3*s.
December 20th, 2018 at 10:42 AM ^
wrong- They had to have a small class. They will add 2 -5 stars in Nester and Paris Johnson jr to go along with 5 * transfer Justin Fields
December 19th, 2018 at 9:40 PM ^
I'm not so sure about that statement...20+ 4/5 star recruits.
Even though many have quit the program since he has been here, I really think Harbaugh loves to have the 3* push the 4/5* that are a part of the team.
December 19th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
Un-possible, Harbaugh hates recruiting.
December 19th, 2018 at 2:03 PM ^
And he's definitely looking for an excuse to go back to the NFL.
/s for those that need it
December 19th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
So, Oakland is still in play? What about after they change to Las Vegas? JH seems like a real Vegas kind of guy.
December 19th, 2018 at 4:16 PM ^
Remember. He sucks, is predictable, weird, and overrated. And that's why every year they report him going to the NFL.
December 19th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
The star averages are way more consistent in the OSU PSU classes. I’m sure there will be attrition from the lower ends of UMs class.
That being said it’s important to note that PSU needs oline development and their 2019 oline group is lower ranked than ours.

Early-pseudo SLDMBM is the best pseudo-SLDMBM because he's on his best behavior and occasionally has useful things to contribute while trying not to get outed immediately. Later on the guard inevitably drops.

oh for sure. And as we all well know - no one experiences attrition like Michigan experiences attrition.

I'll eat some crow. This rounded into a really solid class that meets a lot of needs and the staff did a great job closing out and seem to have learned from last year.

That would be nice, but not enough depth on the DL imho. Couple injuries could be real bad news.
December 19th, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
Obviously not everyone in this class is going to be a hit. I think people tend to forget that when we look at transfers. Every class is going to have washouts, it just appears that Harbaugh weeds them out a little quicker than some other coaches. Some of the three stars that we have are going to be busts, and probably some of the four stars as well. However I will say that some of the three stars we got look a lot better than their ranking. It will be interesting to see how their career’s progress.
December 19th, 2018 at 4:25 PM ^
Let's not forget that with the evaporation of recruiting sites and their respective staff(s) that many kids who may have received high national accolades in the past could very well be lower in the overall rankings this year. Give our coaching staff some credit for looking at tapes and truly scouting players regardless of their star status. Even with the unexpected transfers, we pulled in nice prospects that fill positions of need. With some S&C time and development time, I'm confident we will look back at this class as a solid and well-rounded class that will advance the upward trajectory of the football program. Here's to these young men showing what they can do! Go Blue.
