Onward: Rashan Gary
As expected since committing on Signing Day 2016, Rashan Gary will be playing in the NFL next year. The top overall recruit of his class helped establish Michigan as a premier destination after Harbaugh's first year. After a season backing up Chris Wormley, when not sidelined by/playing through a nagging shoulder injury, Gary was quietly dominant as Michigan's starting Anchor for two seasons.

Since Gary's draft stock is already well established, and given his injury history this year and last, it seems doubtful he will play in the bowl game. I'm sure the vast majority of Michigan fans will understand and wish him the best of luck in what will assuredly be a fantastic pro career.
In his time at Michigan Gary's work ethic and leadership were by all accounts on par with his ludicrous talent. Though it's sad the injuries meant we didn't get to see him Suh it up while in Ann Arbor, that season and many more good things will be coming his way. It was an honor to have him while we could.
Michigan awaits decisions from several other early-entry candidates, including Devin Bush, David Long, Lavert Hill, and Shea Patterson.

Rashan was a great teammate and will always be a Michigan Man. Thanks for the ride, dude !
November 26th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
Totally agree! Rashan thanks for your effort, character, leadership and commitment to excellence. God bless you and best wishes for great success and happiness in the NFL and beyond throughout your life.

i look forward to seeing his name on all-pro lists for years to come.
he's been a pleasure to watch.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Good luck young man!!! Can’t wait to see you on sundays!!
November 26th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
Wish him luck and I hope he crushes the NFL. Guy was a great representative for the university while here.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
He is a true Michigan Man: He gave us everything he had on the field, balled out in the classroom, and made his mom proud. Good luck with what comes next, Rashan.
November 26th, 2018 at 1:58 PM ^
Good luck to him! I’d be surprised if he did play in bowl game and would advise him against it. Bowl game is meaningless.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
Nothing but the best of luck for you, Rashan, and thank you for everything you've done for the program.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:03 PM ^
Only the best to you young man. You did yourself, your family, and the University of Michigan proud. Could have been a prima donna - never was. Respect
November 26th, 2018 at 2:05 PM ^
Valuable teammate who will be missed.. get healthy Rashan and get paid!
November 26th, 2018 at 2:05 PM ^
I wish he could've experienced a win over the Buckeyes but beyond honored to have seen him wear the maize and blue and to count him as an alum.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
Would love to have seen him reach his full potential while he was here but best of luck to him in the League.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:11 PM ^
Just curious, what is his logo? Is that supposed to be an "RG" (like TB12 for Tom Brady) or something? Or is it a logo for something else? Maybe I just can't process it b/c I'm 100% math 0% art brained.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:47 PM ^
It's an RG.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:05 PM ^
Thanks. I kinda see an "R", but not a G. I also could never see those 3D images in those books and posters that were popular in the 90s. Nothing ever popped off the page, no matter how much I relaxed my eyes or whatever. But I was a beast at Number Crunchers.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:14 PM ^
Actually, I'm pretty sure the symbol on the right side is a "3" and the "G" shape is created by the entire triangle (both the 'R' and '3").
Not super clear either way.
November 26th, 2018 at 4:18 PM ^
Glad I'm not the only one confused by it. I thought I might be missing something obvious.
November 26th, 2018 at 9:43 PM ^
R on the left side, G on the right.
It's pretty sweet now that I see it!
November 26th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
Good luck Rashan. This is definitely the right choice for your future.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
Bummer to see him go but I'd make the same decision if it were me or my son. Best wishes Rashan and thank you for what you did both on and off the field.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
Happy Monday. Good luck Rashan.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
There are players who end up much better pros than they ever were as college players - (Tom Brady, Taylor Lewan, J.J. Watt etc.)
I suspect Rashan Gary is going to be one of those guys.
November 27th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
Though TBF Watt was a stud in college too. I remember watching him in 2010 at the big house and dude was scary back then - just on another level once he got to the NFL.
Can't wait to see what Rashan does in the combine!
November 26th, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
No surprise here. He deserves all the success coming to him.
Was great to see him suit-up as a Wolverine.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
Gary, Bush, Long and Hill probably had nothing left to learn [at the college level]. Something to prove, maybe, in Gary's case, because of his injury, but what would that be? Just to rack up stats against overmatched opponents for a year at the risk of getting injured again? I can see his case. Long and Hill are so feared they're actively avoided, and Bush has put up all the tape he needs to show what happens if you don't scheme around him.
Shea Patterson stands to benefit the most from staying. He had a pretty efficient year, but one in which he clearly hadn't hit his ceiling. Don't get me wrong, he'd be drafted, but after some chin-stroking by scouts I think he'd be a Day 2 pick with some serious danger of getting cut if he couldn't instantly prove things that just take time to learn. OTOH, with another offseason under Harbaugh's wing he could torch the B1G and leave next year with a much bigger payday, barring injury.
Yes, I have a huge conflict of interest here, but I think I'd say the same thing if he was wearing a different uniform.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Shea would be lucky to be a day 2 pick. Feels more like a 4th or 5th rounder. Seems like he'd land somewhere in the 5-10 range for available QBs and that's 4th and 5th round territory.
I mean, a guy like Mason Rudolph was a 3rd rounder last year. To me, Shea's not even at that level yet. I think he has a lot to gain by coming back.
November 26th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
Patterson would not be a day 2 pick. He is not a 2nd-3rd round pick... more like 6-7th at this point.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:29 PM ^
Good luck, Rashan. As Harbaugh says, you are still 'ascending'. You'll CRUSH it in then NFL.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
Good luck Rashan, go get some QB ass and get paid for it.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:31 PM ^
Best of luck. We hoped for a poor man's Jadeveon Clowney. We got a rich man's (?) Ryan Van Bergen. Go make that $$, stay healthy.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
I've been thrilled to have Rashan. It's been amazing. Heal up dude! Come back and, if you haven't already, get your degree. In the meantime, to paraphrase his mom, 'Go get some NFL quarterback ass!'
November 26th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
Thank you Rashan. You brought credit to this school on and off the field. Have a great career.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Seems like a great young man and wish him nothing but the best.
That being said he was remarkably overhyped and stubbornly out of position. Had he played 3T he might have been the best to ever do it. It’s crazy to think he was never once the most productive lineman on his own team.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:02 PM ^
Just a thought, but perhaps that was because he always drew double, even triple teams that allowed easier 1-on-1 matchups for his teammates.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
You arent necessarily wrong, but he was a very, very good college player, and much like fellow NJ native, J. Peppers, unfortunately he was a bit snake bitten by injuries and could have been an all time college great if totally healthy IMHO.
GOOD LUCK RASHAN!!! - make that money and spoil that mother of yours.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Good luck Rashan!
Good luck not only in the NFL but in life altogether.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
Most-held DL in recent Michigan history?
Hope he gets doesn't play in the bowl game. Heal up for the combine
November 26th, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
November 26th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
What does that even mean... "he didn't deliver" ?? A single player can't deliver anything other than their own level of effort, preparation, and leadership. By those standards, he delivered just fine.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
Exhibit #1 for why we need a downvote button.
November 26th, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
I would neg him too if I could. I thought maybe it was an Mgopoints thing? Is there a number I need to get to?
November 26th, 2018 at 3:08 PM ^
I wish him well too, but word association with RG is "unfulfilled potential." It's very hard to see by his on the field performance why he was the #1 overall recruit. I know he was injured a lot and I know he faced a ton of double teams when he wasn't, but there were simply not enough 5* performances for his time at Michigan to be considered anything other than lackluster. Certainly not enough to warrant the big fella brandishing his own monogrammed swag. I mean, don't you have to win something besides the gene lottery before you roll out with your own brand?
Work volume, injuries, and double teams don't get easier in the NFL. I hope he makes it, but I certainly wouldn't want to pay him big money until he shows it consistently on the field.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
Don't be that person.
November 26th, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
You are so cool and tough. I bet you call your co-workers bad names once they leave your office too.
November 27th, 2018 at 10:37 AM ^
Agreed, he never lived up to his potential and dissapeared against Ohio State like all the other underachievers on this team. Disrespectful to the team and fans to announce NFL decision two days after that embarrassment and before the bowl game. Tells where his mind has been at all along.
November 28th, 2018 at 10:05 PM ^
November 26th, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
Farewell to a great Michigan Man. He'll leave a huge huge void to fill and it will be sad to see his skill and leadership go. I know it's in his best interest to never play another down, but man... it would be so nice to see him shine one last time in a bowl game that will still mean a lot for the program.
The "sitting out of the bowl games" thing is understandable in an age where it makes financial sense. But man, it really is a buzz kill for fans of the college game like me who view pro football as a mere pastime.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
100%. I’m having a very hard time deciding what bowl destiny would be best for this team for that reason, and because that happened on Saturday.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
I’ll always remember Rashan Gary as the five star recruit who said fuck no to the bagmen down south, and instead came to Ann Arbor to pursue his dreams as a football player by playing on the highest level in front of the most people, and attending a world class university to assure he will dominate the off-field world during and after what will be a successful NFL career.
I wish this could have been on a less depressing note, but best of luck Rashan, and forever Go Blue.
November 26th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
Where do you project Gary and to what team?
