Michigan #5 in AP, Ohio St falls all the way to #11
Big fall for Ohio St!
October 21st, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
It really felt like the end of an era for OSU yesterday. Time will tell.
Also, looking at that poll, I still think Texas is a joke up there at #6.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
“End of an era”... not quite.
If they somehow end up winning the B1G with 1 loss then it’s right back to the playoffs for them.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
That's why I said time will tell. But it felt like it to me.
I haven't seen an OSU team collapse like that. Iowa was different last year.
And with Urban's rumored retirement/ragequit, well, we will see!
October 21st, 2018 at 2:31 PM ^
Rumors by who? Random anonymous Michigan fan boards?
October 21st, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
I've been joking about that since Urban took the OSU job. Last night was the first night that I've heard OSU fans telling the same joke. It's just a joke, but he has done it before. It would be like if you publicly shit your pants once when under a high stress situation. People would be expecting you to shit your pants during every high stress situation there after.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
I agree. Terrible loss and they might not have Urban there to right the ship. We'll see.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
A few years ago he didn’t run Zeke against Sparty, last year Iowa happened (didn’t JT throw 5 INTs?) and yesterday they passed 73 times. It’s like he has a massive, game-long brain fart once a season. He needs to check the quality control on his meds, or just retire.
October 21st, 2018 at 4:59 PM ^
He just forgets sometimes, ya know?
October 21st, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
Got a good laugh on the rage quit, lol
October 21st, 2018 at 3:22 PM ^
I've never seen an OSU team so one dimensional. It does feel like the end of an era.
October 21st, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
I'm sorry you missed the 10 Year War.
October 21st, 2018 at 7:51 PM ^
Oklahoma or Texas' resumes do not have a 30 point loss to a team that started 0-3 on them.
October 21st, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
My wife is a buckeye and at the beginning of that game, before kickoff, urban gave a quick interview. She immediately said "wow, he doesn't look like he is into this at all."
I agreed. I would be very surprised if he was their coach this time next year.
October 21st, 2018 at 5:19 PM ^
I saw that as well and thought the same thing. Seemed very strange for him. He appeared distracted, tired, and as if he was mentally in a completely different place than that stadium.
October 21st, 2018 at 6:19 PM ^
Probably thinking of his Co-ed. I mean family.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:25 PM ^
I do enjoy OSU being a national laughing stock right now. They'll bounce back up in the coming weeks, I'm sure.
Luckily for them, Meyer is good at forgetting about beatings.

Thank you for this.
October 21st, 2018 at 6:27 PM ^
Beautiful.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
Wow I surprised they’re out of the top 10. I believe they deserve it because they have looked shaky recently and it finally bit them. But, still, it’s OSU, and I’m surprised they dropped them that far.
then again, they got BEAT DOWN by an unranked squad, so...
October 21st, 2018 at 5:47 PM ^
Apparently Zach Smith was their most important coach after all.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
I think the polls are still being generous to them. They're saved by the fact that there aren't too many one-loss teams.

So Florida jumped UCF because they looked so impressive during their bye?
October 21st, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
Florida probably jumped UCF on the backs of LSU moving up to #4. Every week LSU looks dominant helps Florida, being their only loss.
October 21st, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
No, Florida BEAT LSU. They lost to UK. But both won this week so yes, Florida looks better despite not playing because their wins and losses look more impressive as those teams keep winning.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
Here's the distribution of votes from College Poll Tracker - LINK
The low vote - a sole #10 - is from Mike Barber of the RIchmond Times-Dispatch
October 21st, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
These are the teams this guy has listed ahead of Michigan:
Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame...
Texas (?)
Florida
LSU
Georgia
Oklahoma (??)
Ohio State (!!)
I'm so glad these polls matter so much less than they once did.
ETA and also
#18 MSU
#19 PSU
#21 Iowa
So --- Ohio State loses on the road by 29 to a team he doesn't consider one of the top 25, but has a win against his #19 team on their field by one point.
Michigan loses on the road to a team he thinks is #3 in the country by a touchdown, wins by 14 over his #18 team on their field and...
I don't even, man.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
He's obviously an Ohio State fan.
October 21st, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
Eh, I mean who cares. We have the most defensible loss, but LSU, Florida and Texas all have better marquee wins. It'll all work itself out in the end.
Still having msu (and to a lesser extent psu) ranked is really the only indefensible thing, but otherwise I'm not going to quibble with where we're ranked among the one loss teams with over a month left in the season. Just keep winning.
October 21st, 2018 at 9:38 PM ^
That's why they are called picks.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Rese Davis has us above LSU. I like him even more now.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
Haha, Mike Barber is also the ONLY voter to give MSU a vote in the top 25. And he put them at 18!!!
Shouldn't that trigger his dismissal from the panel or something?
P.S. - He's a Rutgers grad, so...
October 21st, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
is That the coache’s poll? I see they got one vote there.
October 21st, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
No, AP. Sparty got 8 points in the AP poll, and they were all due to Mike Barber's insane decision to put them at 18!
October 21st, 2018 at 3:23 PM ^
Just trying to build up hype for the Situation Trophy rivalry!
October 21st, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
Football goes in cycles/ MSU and OSU are toast for the forseeable future
October 21st, 2018 at 2:44 PM ^
MSU for sure, but osu is still a recruiting juggernaut. They will pull in talent. One game or one season does not result in them becoming toast imho. If Meyer leaves, well...you may end up being right.
October 21st, 2018 at 3:24 PM ^
Football goes in cycles
Not necessarily, unless Indiana and Rutgers are headed for 80 years of dominance.
October 21st, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
Sadly, I think time will have you at .500 with those predictions (OSU being the exception). Hope you're right though.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
It looks like Joe Burrow was smart in getting out of that shithole and going to LSU
October 21st, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
I wonder how far Bama would drop to if they lost by, say, 10 at LSU. November 3 will feature some very exciting football games.
WVU at Texas
Georgia at Kentucky
Penn State at Michigan
Notre Dame at Northwestern
Alabama at LSU
I think Northwestern has a shot to take down Notre Dame at Ryan Field, although the crowd will likely be half Notre Dame fans.
Next Saturday's game between Wisconsin and Northwestern will be very interesting for the Big10 West, and it's an 11:00 kickoff at Ryan Field. There's just something that puts the visiting team to sleep about that little stadium in the morning.
October 21st, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
NW Wisconsin and Iowa Penn State are both going to be interesting and good B1G games next week.
October 21st, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
Probably not far. Would still be in the top 5.
October 21st, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
Michigan should be ranked ahead of LSU. Michigan clearly has the better loss (by one score, on the road, first game of the season, against the #3 team) . But that's SEC bias for you. But whatever, Michigan just has to win out, regardless of the rankings. Then it would be a crime to put them anywhere but the top 4.
October 21st, 2018 at 3:02 PM ^
I can't agree with this at this point. LSU destroyed both Georgia and Mississippi St. We're definitely not far off from them, and could end up having the better resume by season's end, but as of right now they've got the more impressive wins. (The Wisconsin win was awesome, but I think the MSU win will look a lot less impressive after a while).
Regardless, I still believe Michigan controls its own destiny as far as the playoff is concerned. ND looked shaky against Pitt and while LSU has the better resume thus far, they're offense is less consistent than ours and they're prone to falling off if you ask me.
There's a lot of football left to be played.
October 21st, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
This is a reasonable opinion but still affected by SEC bias. Georgia had looked impressive before LSU while playing nobody with a pulse. They were clearly overrated. Mississippi State is mediocre at best with a 28-7 loss to Kentucky. I know Kentucky is ranked but seriously, it's Kentucky. Kentucky is not a football school, period. Kentucky hasn't really played anybody either. They also lost to the same crappy Florida team. They are ranked highly due to SEC bias.
They have a much worse loss and their wins are not more impressive - when you take away the SEC bias.
On paper, without SEC bias, Michigan should be ranked higher.
As long as SEC bias doesn't put two SEC teams in the playoffs, it doesn't matter. If they do, it will likely unfairly leave out a one loss non-SEC school. Hopefully, Bama destroys LSU and it likely won't matter.
October 21st, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
Speaking of SEC bias, Kentucky beat Vanderbilt 14-7 and moved up 2 spots.
